A Fancy foodcourt! (in a very positive way) All in all very cool and a little overwhelming at first. The huge bar that sits dead center of the hall was striking. The place was very clean and the bussers were attentive. Luckily I was greeted by Annie who was near the front door and in charge of the virtual top golf. She was very enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. She gave us the rundown of the place and what was to be expected: i.e., seating yourself, comprised of local eateries, etc. I also had the pleasure of meeting and shaking hands with Bill, the back of house manager. We spoke briefly about the concept and the what's-what of the establishment. She also told me about service industry Mondays - if you work the industry you get 50% discounts at the bar. Most of everyone I interacted with was very friendly. There is literally something for everyone. Let's talk about some of the food options we tasted this go around:
*MACHO TACO:
Top Notch Customer Service!
SHRIMP TACO - Grilled shrimp with a fairly spicy pineapple relish pretty typical 5/10
PORTABELLO TACO - mostly portabella and not much else very different as a vegetarian option which is nice 5/10
Dip Trio - (not listed on their menu $20) A very large portion of their three main dips Queso, Salsa, and Guac - 4/10 The salsa has a smoky flavor but it wasn't quite as good as the queso and there is an after taste reminiscent of canned tomatoes, the guac is lacking in flavor it needs salt, cumin, lime etc. it was basically mashed avocados and the chips definitely need a hard dash of salt. The queso was decent but not out of this world, unlike their customer service, which was. The gentleman working the register was great and so was the young lady on the grill.
TEXAS "BRISKET" TACO - Pretty Good would have been better on a corn shell 5/10
PORK BELLY TACO - This was the winner as per my significant other his only qualm was the flour tortilla 8/10
CAVEATS ** They only seemed to have flour tortillas and they will be switching to one taco meals soon, so if you want to try just a single taco they will soon be switching that availability to do so in the near future.
*NANBU TOO:
Service was Lacking in enthusiasm
BAO BUNS - No wow factor, just ok 3/10
*DESTIN CHICKEN CO.:
Service was excellent !
WATERMELON REFRESHER BEVERAGE: not listed online but man oh man it should be! This was a winner all around very refreshing and delicious!!!!! You can also get it with some lemonade but we loved it as is!!!! 10/10
WAFFLES - 4 to an order with Homemade maple butter and made to perfection the smell alone was incredible. They were made literally perfect; a light crunch on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside. 10/10
TRUFFLE FRIES: Hard pass. Not enough truffle essence and the parmesan is not of quality. Just plain fries would have been better. Still hot and crispy though. 2/10
Apparently, they offer Vegan patties.^
PB&J:
Very Friendly Service!
ALMOND TEA: It's like an almond Arnold Palmer! Very different I learned it was a Tennessee Grandmother family recipe. It was awesome! It might not be for everyone but they have regular iced tea and lemonade if you aren't adventurous. 9/10
LEMONADE: Not too sweet, not to sour, Just RIGHT! 9/10
Additional notes
*The Italian place hasn't opened yet but I am eager to try it out.
*ZAITOUN- I would have tried this place but I guess they were on break when I was looking at their menu. No one was behind the counter but their options look really enticing!
*POKE LOA - I approached the counter and was looking at the menu and there seemed to be some yummy options but there was not a single greeting as the workers were talking amongst themselves so unfortunately, I walked away.
We are very excited to come back and try...
Read moreThe City Food Hall in Destin Commons is fairly new.
Our visit there was pleasant. It is a large space and there were a number of vendors with a variety of food choices.
We walked around to see what was available before ordering. I ordered a chicken sandwich. It came with bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. It was a large sandwich, the chicken was fried and was very filling.
The lemonade was freshly made. It had a delightful sweet lemon flavor as expected.
My dining companion opted for Pad Thai. It had a good flavor. The dish included a number of vegetables and there was a choice of meat to include. She selected pork and there was quite a bit in the dish.
It was a large serving. The person selling the dish provided a take-home box for the remainder of the food.
I also ordered bread pudding as a dessert from a vendor that specialized in Jamaican dishes. It was a large piece and covered with raisins and a cherry. It had a slight rum flavor that was quite good.
In addition, we ordered a baklava dessert from a vendor selling Greek food. It was not as sweet as baklava is at times. Those who prefer a sweeter flavor can add honey to it.
There is also a large bar area in the center of the court. It has a reasonable selection of wine as well as beer and mixed drinks. There is a large seating area for patrons and the prices are reasonable.
Between the two of us, we each had a large meal and two desserts. The entire bill for everything was about $45.00. The servings were large enough for us to have for dinner in the evening.
The City Food Hall is a good experience. There is a wide variety of food available to suit any taste. The vendors were all very helpful and friendly and answered any questions.
It is in Destin Commons. There is plenty of parking available. It is informal dining and...
Read moreI don’t write a lot of reviews, but since this place is new, I thought I’d share my experience. As others have already mentioned, the place looks great. It’s clean and well laid out. There’s a pretty good variety of restaurants to choose from, all in the same price range. We ordered from Tuk Tuk Thai. We had Pad Thai with Tofu and Drunken Noodles with Chicken. ($48 with tip!) The beeper went off about 20 minutes after we ordered. That’s a bit long in my opinion. I went to the counter to find that only the Pad Thai was ready. it took about 8 minutes more until the Drunken Noodles were ready. Obviously, it’s best to have both entrees come out at the same time so we could enjoy the meal together. The Drunken Noodles were fine. (Picture Included) Not great, not horrible. The Pad Thai however got thrown away. The flavor was off and there were only three or four pieces of tofu. I was considering asking for a refund when a busser named Sean came over to ask how the meal was. He genuinely listened to and cared about our experience. He quickly brought over the manager, Brooke, who also wanted us to leave happy. She handled our issue professionally and gave us a credit for the Pad Thai. Had it not been for those two employees, we would have not come back. Mistakes happen. It’s how a place handles them that makes the difference. We’ll give them another...
