Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Florida

Steak n shake is notoriously slow but the food came pretty quick at this location! In fact, this was the quickest service I've ever gotten at a steak n shake, until the server dropped the check. We asked her to add dessert, which she did and brought a new check. So I bring my check and my payment up with enough to get $10 in change back to leave a tip. My bill was only $26, but I was really happy with the speed and service, and I tend to over tip anyway. My server and the manager were on the outside of the counter talking to a friend when I went up to pay, and completely ignored me. Neither tried to cash me out our even acknowledge me in the slightest. I stood there for 5 minutes watching them chat with a friend, AND THEN my server walked away and bussed a table and the manager walked into the boh. WHAT!!!??? So I put the extra cash in my pocket and decided I'll leave $6. Still slightly higher than 20%. The manager finally came back from the boh and cashed me out. I sat back at my table with my kids to wait for shakes. I saw our shakes in the shake window. I saw almost every server look at them, look at the ticket and then walk away. I finally realized, our server was gone. I sat there for another 5 minutes watching my shakes in the window, looking for my server. I didn't see her again. By the time someone finally brought us our dessert, I was livid, I took my little $6 back, left $3 and got the heck out of there. Now look, I'm a server, I know how restaurants work. I never leave tips that bad, EVER! I could not believe how terrible that...

I usually never post a seriously negative review. I don't mind critiquing a few negative aspects of a place because everybody can have a bad day but this was terrible. The food was great but unless the service gets better, the food is not worth it. They seemed to be severely short-staffed or completely overwhelmed but it took a while for anyone to even take our order. She brought our forks and left. Another person had to remind her that we were in her section. She finally came back. It didn't take our food long to get to us but that was the last time we saw her. Not a person at our table ever had anything else to drink after that or anything else for that matter. I started feeling sorry for them for a moment until we got up to pay. We were just going to get A (one not five) drink to go since we never got a refill out of 5 people at our table and everybody was choking from dry mouth. They made us PAY FOR IT! That was the last straw. It wasn't but a couple of dollars but after everything else I can't believe we had to pay for the refill we NEVER got at the table! On top of all that the front lobby was packed with people waiting on a seat because they were pretty busy but none of the tables were cleaned off. I like steak and shake normally, but this location we've been to twice both times nice large plate of room temp fries . While mine was so so my wife's burger was rediculus bbq bacon with no bacon - Toppings Minus Bacon are bbq sauce onion straws , fried onion ,and cheese .She got bbq sauce all over the place 2 pieces of fried chopped onion and onion straw powder or flakes.My wife gets this same burger at 2 other locations and the burgers are always topped properly and fries are always hot and it was not busy .we told the server she said "That's what comes on em" My reply was that little bit She said "well the toppings are there" .She was polite and did her job well. We told her we were in a hurry in the beginning and she offered to replace fries but no mention of fixing burger - Most places teach staff to give fries instead of replacing the sandwich (FRIES ARE CHEAP COMPAIRED TO A BURGER) .By this time we had to go we didn't have time to get fries if we wanted to. When ringing out I even mentioned it to the server running the register, got the" sorry to here that" and good bye.
