Bad Service I came into town to visit my boyfriend and decided to try a new sushi place. I picked this in specifically since they offered gluten free options for my allergy. We had two servers help us and I will refer to them as server 1 and server 2. Right when we walked in we were seated with no wait and server 1 even took our umbrella to put aside which I thought was sweet. I ordered a California roll with cream cheese and cucumber and a side of white rice with server 2. When it was brought out I noticed no cucumber so I informed server 2 and he insisted it had cucumber even after inspecting the roll and clearly seeing no cucumber in site and then walked away. I opened up the roll anyways to check just incase he was right and found no cucumber so I called server 2 over and he took the plate back to the kitchen. I even found a hair when I inspected the roll but I didn’t want to complain more cause I felt bad so I didn’t mention it. I assumed they were gonna make a new roll but he brought back the same plate and added two thick slices of cucumber on top of each roll of sushi. Even making the effort of assembling back the sushi roll I took apart to inspect. I found it a bit lazy that they just added it as a topping instead of inside like I originally asked for and the server made it seem like I was the problem for asking for my order like I ordered it. I was able to get help with server 1 who did get the sushi chef to make me a new roll which I appreciate it and he even apologized which wasn’t necessary since it wasn’t his fault. But it seemed like the staff tried to avoid us after this. They had left the original roll at the table so I thought maybe I can take it home and give it to my boyfriend's dad (minus the roll with the hair in it) for lunch the next day but when we asked for a box the waiter turned it down and said they didn’t add this roll to our bill so they were taking it back. I didn’t mind but thought it was wasteful and unsanitary of them to take back a roll that I touched and possibly throw it out. We then felt rushed to leave after the server brought our ticket without us asking and it seemed like they were ready to get rid of us. On top of this my boyfriend and I never got our side of white rice that we both ordered but at this point I didn’t want to deal with something else and was ready to leave. The food was good but the service of some of the staff give off that they don’t want to work there and don't give good customer. I felt like I was painted as a hard customer or even a Karen for saying something that was their mistake. The actions that followed after should have been handled differently and it overall ruined what was suppose to be a nice dinner date with my boyfriend. I noticed that other customers got better service than us so I don’t know if maybe since my boyfriend and I are in the younger side (both 20 but have baby faces so we get a lot of you look 17-18 years old) that they could take...
Read moreSushi Damu for being a chain restaurant offers a cute atmosphere where everyone would feel welcome. The pop of color that is intentional to match throughout the entire place including the bathroom. We were quickly seated and the wait staff was quick to take drink orders. After looking over the menu I found myself ready to order 6 or 7 plates of food to check out a variety of items they had to offer. I was surprised that appetizers that we ordered were the last to arrive to the table, very last item was a side salad. All sauces were pretty standard to most sushi places but their season salad dressing was a delight with no overpowering sesame oil, just subtle as it should be. Vegetable tempura, batter what pretty much perfect with the exception of a GIANT piece of broccoli about the size of a toddler fist, producing a completely raw brassica and doughy batter since it was much bigger than the rest of the variety of veggies. The sushi rolls were cut to a perfect size, as no one likes a roll cut into huge pieces where you have to dislocate your jaw to eat.. the rolls had a perfect ratio to filling/rice and not too much sauce on them to take away from the other ingredients, which I apperciate and bow with respect. My real only complaint was the tempura shrimp or what they called "tempura". These arrived to the table and I was confused immediately. The shrimp had nothing to do with tempura but instead they were breaded and glistening with grease. It was like I was sitting down at a steak house and ordered breaded shrimp but no cocktail suace to go with it. There is a huge difference, tempura is a light thin coating not taking anything away from the main star. It was almost like these were pulled from a freezer bag, but I will never know. When I asked staff about this, I was told this is tempura... hmmm... as I pondered my entire culinary education and experience. In no way do I want the "tempura" shrimp to take away from all round good food this place...
Read moreI visited this restaurant to celebrate Father's Day and had a really ruined day. Food was ok. I want to start by saying this up front. Nothing special, just another ordinary sushi restaurant. Service seems to be the biggest problem here. Even though it was an ALL YOU CAN EAT, we were only able to order twice for six people. Once we placed orders, had to wait for 40 minutes. We all ended up losing our appetite while waiting for food. It was not like this place was busy, only three tables including us.
The server's response was truly amazing when we presented the problem. She just said they were working on it without any apology or understanding. All she said was another table ordered first so just wait. Then no further response. There were only three tables including us. One table with party of two and the others with party of three. Even though I told them we had been waiting for 40 minutes already, there was no further reaction. Then same thing happened to our second order as well. Another 40 minutes of wait.
I fully understand that there may be a lack of manpower or any problems that may arise at a restaurant. However, that is a problem that must be solved by the owner's ingenuity. Overall, even though it wasn't a very expensive buffet, I think it was the first time I thought it was a waste of money. I think this restaurant really needs to pay more attention to employee training. Will never visit...
