Remember the time before Covid-19? We do. I remember my wife came to me one day telling me the exciting news, she had found The Yard Milkshake Bar. I, being the poor husband that I am, did not share in her excitement. She then turned to her sister who lives in Georgia. They spoke about what amazing treats they may find in such a place and made a plan to take a road trip and visit a location in Alabama. Unfortunately for all Covid-19 struck the world and everyone's plans changed. My wife was disappointed but realizing in the grand scheme of things that this was of little importance decided to cancel her trip.
Imagine her surprise when she found out a location was opening here, an hour away from us. She was ecstatic and informed me straight away. This time I mustered up a bit more enthusiasm but never nearing hers.
On the heels of Hurricane Laura, on a drizzly day in Flowood we were able to reach The Yard. My wife and young daughter were filled with positive energy ready to experience this great treat. We entered, reviewed the menu then waited.
Sadly that's where things ended. We waited and waited while the 5-6 people behind the counter ignored us. There was no "Hi, welcome to the Yard! How can I make you happy today?". As I prepared to draw attention to us my wife said, " No. Let's go. I don't want to give them our money" and we left.
Now instead of it being a wonderful place to have an amazing treat she describes it as a "garbage company who can keep their sh**ty ice cream. "
It did look good though. The families who were served...
Read moreI have attempted to contact management first and received no response, so I will just put my experience here. I came in on a very busy afternoon with my family. We went to get in line and the young girl working in the shop came barreling through customers with huge plates/cups of ice cream and shakes in her hands. No "excuse me", no "coming through". I had to step back in order to avoid her slamming into me. I said "excuse you" more to myself than to anyone else as I found her behavior rude. It wasn't meant to be confrontational. However, this girl turns around and begins yelling at me in front of the whole store: "ARE YOU SPEAKING TO ME? DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU WANNA SAY TO ME? I WORK HERE, YOU DON'T SO YOU CAN LEAVE." My husband and I were floored. We got angry as we are not going to just let some girl yell in our faces. We asked to see the manager--she claimed there was no manager on duty. We asked for the phone number for the manager--she claimed it was on the front door. Which, it was not. There is no email or number to management on their website either. Had I known that an off the cuff comment would send this girl into an aggressive, unprofessional tirade, I certainly would have never said anything. But you can rest assured we will not be back nor will we be recommending this establishment to anyone who wishes to have a pleasant experience. It was a hugely embarrassing situation and while I am certainly sorry for my part, no worker should EVER treat a customer in...
Read moreI had the birthday cake shake, and it was delicious. It was $20, though, so I doubt I'll go back often. Make sure you specifically verify what you're receiving when you order.
The only issue I had was that I pointed to the birthday cake shake on the menu and told her I wanted the birthday cake shake. She asked if I wanted it in a plastic cup or a jar. I was taking it to go, so told her the plastic cup was fine. When she rang it up, the cost was lower than I expected, so I asked if it was going to include everything for the birthday cake shake and pointed at it again. She told me that it was only the shake. She was not going to give me what I specifically asked for until I questioned it. That's insane. If someone asks for something and points at it, you can't assume they know changing from a glass to a plastic cup notifies them that the entire order changes. We haven't all been there before.
Also, the place doesn't smell great. An ice cream shop should smell nice when...
