It’s been years since I last ventured up north to Fort Collins, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The FoCo I remembered wasn’t quite the same anymore, but what I found when I stumbled into DGT Tacos was an absolute game-changer! First off, let’s address the obvious: the place has changed, and for the better. DGT Tacos is a perfect blend of modern meets authentic. It’s not just the flavors that make this spot stand out, though those are undeniably incredible, but the vibe, the atmosphere, and the overall experience all come together to make it something special.
I’ve had my fair share of tacos, but DGT’s offerings truly took me by surprise. Each taco is packed with bold, fresh flavors and generous portions that leave you more than satisfied. The tortillas are perfectly soft and lightly charred, which I absolutely love, and the fillings are on another level. From the juicy, tender carne asada to the smoky, caramelized al pastor, everything is fresh and full of flavor. The Thai Chicken Taco was interesting but I wasn't disappointed to say the least.
Honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite because everything I tried was that good. But if I had to, the Carne Asada taco was a revelation. Slow-cooked to perfection, it had that melt-in-your-mouth quality that you only get from someone who truly knows how to cook. The Thai Chicken Taco was interesting but I wasn't disappointed to say the least.
I wasn’t expecting to find such a welcoming atmosphere, but DGT’s staff truly made it a memorable experience. From the moment I walked in, I felt like a regular. The team was friendly, attentive, and genuinely excited to share their menu with me. Whether you're a taco connoisseur or a first-time visitor, they’re happy to guide you through the options, and the service is quick without sacrificing quality.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure what I’d find going back to Fort Collins after all these years, but DGT Tacos was more than worth the trip. The food is top-notch, the service is exceptional, and the vibe is just right for a casual yet flavorful taco experience. If you’re like me, and it’s been a while since you’ve explored the area, make DGT Tacos one of your first stops. You’ll definitely leave with a full stomach and a new favorite taco spot!
I hope these guys achieve great success! It would be amazing if they could eventually bring their unique flavor down south. There's definitely a lot of potential for their style to connect with new audiences, and it’d be exciting to see how they could adapt and influence the southern scene. Here's to their future growth...
Read moreAs a San Diego native, I know my Mexican food. Frankly, this isn't it, though it does have other things to offer.
I dislike gentrified ethnic food, and while DGT is far from authentic (they serve tacos with kale and tofu in them for god's sake), they aren't like other establishments that think wrapping steak and potatoes in a tortilla and adding guacamole makes it "Mexican."
No no no, DGT's strongest asset is its unique and creative Mexican-inspired menu. As someone who values culinary innovation, props to them for that. My favorite is the Bandito, which has fried cheese that gives it a nice, crispy texture to break up the monotony. (Thankfully, they don't serve tacos in a shudder corn shell.) What you'll also notice while inside is the interior design, which is inspired by Mexican folk art. I normally don't care about that sort of thing, but in this case, it really gives the place life.
That said, here are the negatives. I admire their efforts to create original, Mexican-fusion cuisine, but I find they're just not up to par to what I'm used to within that niche. The meats, while not bad, have to be the worst part of the tacos. They're chopped up and prepared and cooked using generic methods that are only marginally better than Chipotle/Qdoba. The tacos, to me, are rather under-seasoned. The cajun chicken, for example, is especially underwhelming. (And as creative as the taco combinations are, I definitely don't like how they try to incorporate trendy, "health conscious", college liberal ingredients like kale and tofu that don't actually blend well with the rest.) Don't misconstrue this to mean that I dislike the combinations, because I do like the tacos. But I think they could be significantly better if the cooks used more of those same seasonings to make the flavors stand out more and just be punchier. Not to mention, at $3 a pop, I was not expecting the portion sizes to be so small. Taco trucks in San Diego charge you $1.20 for a taco (one, singular taco) that's much tastier and twice as filling than at DGT.
That said, things must be taken in context. This isn't a metropolis with a large Mexican population, this is a small college town, and unlike the San Diego's taco trucks, Dam Good has to pay a monthly lease for their location which would necessarily raise the prices. All in all, I've eaten at all of DGT's competitors, and I'd say this is the best spot in Fort Collins for tacos, especially since many of the combinations here you can't get elsewhere. However, I still feel that Dam Good could do a lot better to live up to their...
Read moreMy first time in was rather interesting, it’s a rather small space for a restaurant but that’s what can be expected from small businesses so it doesn’t lose any points there whatsoever. It’s a great establishment for tacos, burritos and bowls! I do highly recommend the Carne Asada and Cajun Chicken!
The staff were very upbeat and friendly and I appreciate it especially in the field of food. Great job and keep it up.
DGT can be a little expensive for certain items versus others in terms of food to money ratios. However if we went off a ratio of food to quality, I believe it’s great! It’s very diverse in terms of its choices!
One thing I believe holds this establishment from higher ratings is prices as well as quantity of food. I do see this eventually changing as it is a small establishment. As of now, it’s a four from me. I did order the chips and queso and it wasn’t the greatest. It was very bland and I would highly recommend looking into a recipe that won’t affect finances or quality.
I do also want to address the beverages you can get. The Coke I received was incredibly warm but I chalk it up to possibly a fridge left open or possibly the fridge not being setup correctly. I do hope this gets fixed.
Overall, this is a great place to get tacos, burritos and bowls for a reasonable price and quantity. While those alone can be improved, I see DGT becoming much better with minor changes to recipes and...
