Where to begin? Well, upon entry we were immediately greeted by the most delightful server who introduced herself as Allie. She seated us immediately with a smile. She was extremely friendly, very chipper, and never asked us how we were doing when we had mouths full of food (which is something that seems to happen in a lot of other restaurants). You could tell she really enjoyed her job, and her enthusiasm seemed to rub off on everyone. Also, she came and went with a smile and took care of everything with the utmost professionalism.
Next, the decor. It was warmly colored, there were lovely works of art on the walls, it was brightly lit and the overall atmosphere was very welcoming. We were seated (at our request) at the counter itself and not one of the tables and the stools were comfortable and were evenly matched to the counter.
Finally, the food. Dear God, the food! They claim that much of their foods ad sauces are home made and made from scratch. I am inclined to believe it. The biscuits were heavenly, the strawberry jam was OBVIOUSLY homemade and was positively decadent. The eggs, cooked to perfection. The country fried steaks (I ordered the Rancher's breakfast which, apparently, came with TWO steaks!) were obviously home battered, and fried, the hasbhbrowns were crispy but not burnt. Heck, they even managed to make the cottage cheese delicious!
Now, when you order a plate of food for roughly twelve bucks, you should expect a decent sized meal. This wasn't just decent, it was phenomenal! The portions were enough for this meal, and an entire meal tomorrow with the leftovers! Their "small" omelet is EASILY as large as a regular omelet at Perkin's or Village Inn.
My one complaint, the one, petty, selfish complaint I have is that they close early in the day, but that's because I wouldn't mind coming here after work to enjoy their fabulous food and service.
I would easily rate this restaurant five stars...
Read moreI have never had such a horrible experience at a restaurant before. This was my first time trying Doug’s because a lot of people have recommended the food. I did an online order and when I got there the Host seemed frustrated that I came through the wrong door and just pointed to the takeout side. Then I had maybe four or five servers come to the counter and not one even acknowledged that I existed. Over fifteen minutes went by with nothing. Finally someone came over, but they ignored me and asked the gentleman next to me, who had just walked in, what he needed. Then a random server came over and I asked about the order and she asked my name and gave me attitude that it was sitting right there. Mind you this was behind the counter, so it seems weird that someone would want me to reach behind the counter to look for my name and then grab my food. I won’t be coming back, which is fine because there’s a breakfast place across the street that is absolutely amazing. As someone who was a manager in customer service for well over a decade, I would never let a customer go without being greeted, whether they were my direct customer or not. That seems like just basic respect to me and shouldn’t be a skill you have to teach someone, especially when all of these servers were adults. Food was below average, probably partially due to having to wait well past my...
Read moreLunch today was disappointing. Ordered Sharon omelette. When asked what side I said hash browns, but then corrected myself and said home fries. Server brought hash browns that looked delicious, but were thick and soft inside, not like hash browns are to be cooked. Omelette has sour cream, but it was put inside and it made the omelette cold and watery, along with the veggies. The side of tomatoes tasted soggy and not fresh, and the English muffin wasn't toasted, but warmed up, and I didn't care for it but ate it because I was hungry. The homemade strawberry preserves were like dumping liquid on my English muffin, and when I picked it up to eat it, ran down my hand to my wrist. I ordered a cinnamon roll to take home for a coffee break. It looked delicious, was enough for two people and came with a tub of icing. Sadly, the taste was bland, chewy like bread, and nothing like a really good cinnamon roll would be. Service today was a bit awkward at first, with a new server training, who was a bit too eager to take our order. The server and trainer did get us all that we asked for eventually. The window blinds were lifted when we first arrived, making it very difficult to see at our table with the glare, chrome from cars, etc. The servers were gracious enough to move us to the back before our...
