So... here's the deal. My wife is Asian, and we eat out at least once a week at an Asian food restaurant. We decided to try this place for the first time. The food was ok/good, however... all the details around "Service", was soooo lacking! Note: Our server was: Jordan N. When you walk into the place, the floors are dirty, and look like they hadn't been swept all afternoon (we came in just after 8p). My wife asked for hot water (of course, cause that's how Asian's like their water). Our server brings her hot water in a cold water glass (instead of a coffee mug, which is how it should come). In addition to that, the water glass was "chipped". Good thing she didn't try putting her mouth to it, as it would have cut her. So then our server brings her a Mug. It was dirty. SMH! In between serving us, the servers were just a table away, all sitting down and playing with their phones. LOL. When our food finally arrived, we were offered No Plates! Then, since we ordered some sushi, I had to finally ask for a small dish in order to put my soy sauce/wasabi in, so I could properly dip my sushi into it. I mean, just a total lack of attention to any details what-so-ever! Since my wife noticed her hot water mug was dirty, she asked for another mug. Our server brought one out, putting his hands all over it, and ask if it would be ok. Reluctantly she agreed. However, he NEVER came back w/her hot water for the remainder 15 minutes of our meal. Server never came by to ask if our meal was good/right, NOR did he ever refill my empty water glass, after I put it right on the very edge of the table, so it was easy to see! Servers were seen eating and drinking in plain site; which is so unprofessional. This is like some type of low class, fast food type sushi place. Everyone there should go eat in at Wild Sushi & Ramen on Western Center Blvd (we've eaten there at least a dozen times), so they can see what a professional establishment looks like! Final Note: We will NOT ever be coming back to your restaurant! PS... you may want to hire some professional servers!
UPDATE on 3/7/23, we've gone to Kyodai Ramen and Sushi Bar(2825 Heritage Trace Pkwy) a couple of times, just around the corner from this place, and they're MUCH Better food quality and experience! You're...
Read moreHANDS DOWN THE BEST JAPANESE RESTAURANT IN DFW! I am honestly shocked that this place does not have five stars across the board. Being a first generation Japanese-American, I took my mother here on our post mother's day outing and boy were we BLOWN AWAY. It actually brought tears to my mom's eyes because it brought us back to Japan and we haven't been able to go back in over 5 years. It honestly tasted like home for us and we couldn't be more happy we found this spot and will DEFINITELY be back. There are obviously quite a few people that have no idea what authentic Japanese ramen taste like. And that's okay, but that it's really not fair to dog it because you don't understand our culture. We have LITERALLY searched all over DFW and NEVER has anything tasted so authentic and delicious. For those wondering about the chashu pork, it is supposed to have almost grayish undertones due to it's high content of fat and it is used to make the broth and give it that luxurious creaminess.. it's nothing to be afraid of. I'm really saddened to see these really unsubstantiated reviews by so called "ramen experts" because it's clear to me that Japanese food is really not understood at all in this country. :[ If its not for you, that's totally okay but If you are looking for authentic REAL AND FRESH Japanese food, put down the top ramen and please give this place a chance. :D We also got a few sushi rolls and they were absolutely divine as well, if you like ikura roll (my moms favorite and shes super picky about it) she said that this place by far had the best ikura roll as well. The staff was so INCREDIBLY sweet and helpful which was the cherry on top of a perfect meal. For those of you saying this is not Japanese ramen, you obviously have never been or lived in japan so just a forewarning you'd best stay away from ramen all together in Japan because this is literally what it taste like consistency of noodles saltiness and all THIS IS WHAT IT TASTE LIKE so if it's not for you that's totally fine but just understand that's how it is back home. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU SAIKOU RAMEN FOR GIVING MY MOM AND I A...
Read moreMet a friend for lunch there today and it was my first visit. After reading some of the reviews it seemed people either really like it or had a bad experience/food. I had some concerns based on some of the reviews, but my meal/experience here was great!
When I entered, I was greeted cheerfully. The restaurant was clean and there were a few tables already occupied. I arrived before my friend and the waitress checked with me a couple of times to see if I needed anything else to drink or wanted to order an appetizer.
After my friend arrived, we had the Shishito Peppers appetizer and both enjoyed it very much. I ordered the Saikou Ramen spicy level 3 (scale of 1 to 3) and my friend ordered the Vegetable Ramen and had a soft egg added, spicy level 1. We both enjoyed our ramen very much. My noodles were not overdone as some other reviewers have commented. Perhaps they have listened to the feedback or I visited while the best cook was on duty.
My bowl was LOADED with noodles, pork, and had plenty of corn, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and the both was delicious. The broth was very flavorful. At first I didn't think there were any fish balls in the soup, as one other reviewer commented on. However, my soup did have fish balls. But the menu states it has tobiko fish ball, which don't necessarily look like the traditional fish balls I am used to seeing in pho. At first I thought it was a couple of pieces of squid. But upon tasting it, I know it was the fish ball based on texture and flavor.
My only constructive feedback would be if a level 3 is described as "set you hair on fire" it should be more spicy. I would say my level 3 was really a level 2 ("need extra water"). Furnny thing is, my friend felt his level 1 ("kinda spicy") was a little spicier than anticipated and he thought it was a level 2 as well. And while I did have two pieces of tobiko fish ball, they were relatively small. Perhaps slightly less port and a little more tobiko fish ball.
The issues above were extremely minor and I look forward to a return visit to Saikou Sushi & Ramen with my...
