Ye Gads! It's a keeper!! No, really. Read on. We were there for the grand opening August 23 because we were driving by and shopping in the area. I can't believe how good the food was for a grand opening. Now, I've been a fan of Uncle Julio's since I had lived in Irving and been to the one on Lemon years ago. That venue was good but crowded and noisy but I kept going because of the quality of the food. My friend had also been to the one in Grapevine a couple of years ago and the food was "Ehhhhhhhh" to say the least. But this place is a new fresh, open, well managed place with outstanding FRESH food with much of it made in a new presentation with half of the kitchen pulled out in front to show you how fresh everything is. In talking with the server, they bring in a butcher every morning to cut the tasty mesquite cooked steaks, chicken and etc. There were no errors for a grand opening which is very unusual. The place was jam-packed too (even at 4:45 PM) with people even having to park in an adjacent parking lot. It's going to be one of the more popular venues in the area. Seating is abundant too with lots of tables inside and TWO separate outside patios. The quality of everything was just totally spot-on. I asked the server to recommend "what's best" and to my surprise they again had done an excellent job in training. She 'knew' the menu and servers had tried most meals. I personally settled on the Jalisco fajitas which is a combination of yummy tasting mesquite cooked butterfly shrimp, chicken and steak (very tender) with a dish of dipping butter along with the requisite guacamole, sour cream, cheeses, lettuce, and cilantro and tomatoes mix. Add to that the side of rice and tasty beans too. Mouth-watering good for just $20.99. Yes,that was more than I planned on spending for an entree but well worth it. Speaking of that the prices for the mesquite cooked entrees ranged from $15.99 to $25.99. They have a very mobile friendly menu and website online for you to look at too. This is much more upscale and relevant than the other older locations but in talking to the regional manager when I asked him to come over, they are upgrading and changing some older venues too. My friend enjoyed the Taco salad with fajita chicken as well. I've posted lots of pictures. It's a great place to take a date or take the family and is not 'loud' like their Lemon location used to be. Totally pleasurable experience. We'll be back (again and again). One of the pics shows the price ranges of some of the entrees. Tacos and enchiladas are priced less. They also offer a to-go service. They are located on the I-35 service road of the new Presidio Complex near Main...
Read moreThis location is mediocre. I love Tex-Mex, and any native Texan will tell you we all have our favorite Tex-Mex joint. I was raised on Uncle Julio’s...the old location on Camp Bowie Blvd., and it’s my go-to spot. This new location on North Freeway just doesn’t hold up. The food doesn’t taste the same, and the service has been sub-par the last few times my family and I have been there.
The most recent time (a few weeks prior to this review) I just felt disrespected by the staff. I ordered my meal to-go. When I arrived I barely made it through the first set of doors before the hostess abruptly shouted “how can I help you?”. I informed her that I had a to-go order and gave her my name. Without saying anything she walked over to a rack where they keep the to-go orders, quickly read the ticket, flicked her finger at it and rudely said “it’s right there” as though I was annoying her by picking up my order. I assumed maybe she didn’t want to hand it to me for the sake of social distancing, which is fine, but when I inspected the bag and informed her they forgot to put in my tortillas and butter she marched over and quickly grabbed the bag from my hand without saying anything and began digging through it (the tortillas are free, so, I mean, even if I was lying it’s not like she needed to check). I think the other female employee who was standing there (I’m assuming another hostess) noticed how rude she was being and said “she’s just making sure they didn’t mess anything else up”. Then when the guy from the back brought out the tortillas and butter he brought Mexican butter. I informed him I just wanted regular butter. He was clearly irritated with me and when he brought the regular butter out he literally just dropped it all in the bag without saying anything.
My food was cold, the tortillas were undercooked (they’ve been undercooked the last two times we’ve gone) and the way I was treated by the employees made me feel unwelcome and not want to return. Maybe I caught them on an off night. Hopefully they can get the 5 star rating for food and service like their Camp Bowie...
Read moreHorrible service from the waitress and the manager didn't care. Came here for a nice dinner with my husband and it was far from that. I had put in for a reservation and in their comments I put a table please for 2 adults and a stroller. We get there and the hostess takes us to a booth. I told her we made a reservation and put in their comments for a table. We then asked if we would be able to sit there with our son's stroller in the aisle and she said no. Told her that was why we put in the comments for a table. We waited in the middle of the dining room for a table for about 5 minutes plus standing there which was kinda embarrassing. They finally came and told us they had a table and put us in the back. We waited 10 plus minutes and no one even acknowledged us. My husband and I was talking about walking out when they bought out chips and salsa. Waitress got out drinks about 5 minutes later and acted like we were putting her out. We didn't even get a hello how are yall tonight have you been here before or celebrating anything special. They didn't even bring us water or have any of it at the table for us. We ordered and someone brought the food out but waitress never came back to check on us or give us refills on drinks. Manager was walking around putting tables together by us for big tables. We told her the waitress never came around to get us drink refills or check on us. She replied well she has an 11 top and has been busy. Then she said if you know any waiters or waitresses send them my way and said that's ashame because the waitress that was suppose to wait on us she said she is usually the best one and she walked off. I would hate to see the worst one. My husband and I both looked at each other and was like did she really just say that? So basically manager was saying the smaller tables don't matter and they cater to their bigger tables. She didn't even apologize for the lack of service or offer a discount or anything. I would expect even though we were not a big table but still spend $60 plus on our dinner we would have gotten service or good...
