I realize that Sports Bars aren’t usually something you’d see on a food blog, but Wild Pitch, with locations in Frisco and Fort Worth, is dishing up a serious curve ball to what you normally see on a sports bar menu!
Of course, you’ll find Burgers, Wings and Pizza, and can get Fried Pickles or Mozzarella Sticks, but the choices go FAR BEYOND that, and the flavors will have you wondering why you’ve always settled for anything else.
Here is a review of some of the newest items to hit the menu: Texas Tomato Soup (GF) – While I’m not usually a tomato soup person, this must be tried to appreciated! It’s simple, creamy and satisfying with a depth of flavor that has you going back for more. It’s jalapeno and bell pepper infused, and garnished with a couple thin slices of jalapeno. It’s served with a few tortilla chips or you can have it with a Caesar or side salad, but I just want to fill a thermos with it!
Lettuce Wraps (GF) – Three iceburg lettuce wraps filled with chopped chicken, shitake mushroom and red & green bell pepper. It’s a fresh, light appetizer or lunch as is, but I asked for some sriracha that really brought all the flavors to life.
Mushroom Swiss Burger – Full disclosure, I don’t usually order burgers at sports bars, primarily because they’re usually disappointing, but this burger could change my mind. Regardless of the toppings you select, these are thick, meaty burgers, cooked to your chosen doneness, and packed with flavor. The outside of the burger has a char flavor that can only be achieved with a very hot grill. It seals in the flavor while the center remains tender.
The Ryan Express – Like it’s namesake Hall of Fame pitcher, this pizza brings the heat! Alfredo sauce, cheddar & mozzarella, diced chicken, pickled jalapenos and blackening spice makes this a one-of-a-kind pizza. The alfredo sauce politely gets out of the way as the blackening spice comes in high & tight on your taste buds. The crust is thin and chicken diced small to again let the fastball of the spice be the main attraction. While hot, it’s not overwhelming, so don’t be afraid to dig in – but maybe have your favorite cold beverage in the on deck circle (too much baseball jargon?)
Mahi-Mahi (GF) – Now I’m going to hit you with the change-up. The mahi can be ordered either with Lemon-Dill or Blackened Seasoning and served with two sides. A light yet flavor-packed dish with a complexity of savoriness and acidity that will keep your calorie count down in case the game goes into extra innings.
Honey Sriracha Grilled Shrimp (GF) – Eight shrimp served on 2 skewers and served with your choice of two sides. These are plump, delicious shrimp that draw sweetness from the honey, spicy from sriracha and savory from the grill. I’ve rarely had shrimp this good. These must be waved over the grill, because they were beautifully cooked. Shrimp cooks so fast, that they’re often over-cooked and tough, but these were outstanding.
Signature Fried Rice – These are cooked to order – and it shows – with garlic butter, onion, soy sauce, egg and choice of Chicken, Shrimp, Beef, Veggie or (my selection) Korean BBQ Pork Belly!! This is truly one of the best fried rice dishes I’ve ever had. The rice is just right, the egg is light and fluffy (obviously not made ahead of time) and garnished with some fresh scallion, but the star is the pork belly. Savory, sweet and rich in flavor. I could eat this several times a week.
This is just a sampling of the great food that is served up at Wild Pitch. If you’re a traditionalist, the wings are really good, and they offer many tasty sandwiches, but they also have a large selection of sushi and sashimi. There really is something for everyone, and everything is delicious. You will not be disappointed...
Read moreBottom line up front: Wild Pitch has been and will consistently be one of our go to bars no matter if it's during the week or the weekend. The food, the service, the crowd all have been consistently great and makes for a valued experience.
The service: is phenomenal. The ladies and management are nice and friendly, and all the ones we (my lady and I) have received service from were sincerely cool and sweet. Jaz is one of our favorite bartenders and she always treats us right. But again, all the ladies and management have been sweet/kind to us and attentiveness.
Change of management: we have been going to wild pitch for about 2 years now and I believe within that time, they've had a change of management. The service has only improved in our opinion, and it doesn't seem like any value has been lost.
Food: Sincerely, it's above average for a sports bar. They do what they do really well. So far they're batting consistently and we always leave satisfied with a meal. Normally we get their specialty burgers and entrees. They also make really good Asian based cultural food. Haven't had the courage to try the sushi yet, but will if I'm ever offered any from management lol.
Crowd: the customers or crowd that come to wild pitch are sincerely chill, cool, and looking to just enjoy life and the bar. I have not encountered any altercations, never seen any, and have actually made associates with some of the guys that go there. The fan base is solid and is a way to go see the game without having to sacrifice service or wait forever for food. It's a vibe for people that don't want to do way too much, but more than a little.
Military discount: Yes. Only on food of course.
Parking: Plenty of parking and easy. You also have main event right next door, pluckers, twin peaks, and a hotel so there's a...
Read moreI can't say enough great things about this place, but I'm going to try. Fairly new place tucked in behind Fudruckers this Sports bar has become like a second home. Locally owned and still has that mom and pop store feel. Everyone is very friendly and attentive. The managers check up with me on almost every visit. I'm not sure about one of the other post saying the owner "Rosemary" is absent because I see her and she check up on my frequently. The wait staff, hostess and bartenders are always pleasant to talk to and always remember my face! I've noticed the turnover in staff seems much lower than other sports bars, that is a big deal, I always like to see familiar faces...and theirs are all pretty pleasing to look at! Haha
Now,.... the food! This is what is what is surprising. The food is fantastic, especially the sushi. That's right I said sushi! Not something you normally see in a sports bar but it is absolutely delicious, some of the best I have had. Add the potstickers to that and you are set! Another favorite is the Black and Blue salad. It is a steak salad. I was impressed with the quality of the steak and the blue cheese crumbles are mild in flavor and give the salad a wonderful balance of flavors. It's a must try. The only item I did not care for was the cheesesteak sandwich, not wrong with it, just nothing worth writing about. Ive attaches pictures of the. Ew menu that just came out this week. Lots of things I'm excited to try!
Wild Pitch host events on occasion that are a lot of fun. I think they post those on their website. Well I hope I have helped entice you to visit, good chance you will see me there! Try the sushi, and like always don't be cheap and tip...
