Ah so, so sorry.....I have to extoll the famous warning that my gourmet friends loved to tell: never eat at a restaurant that doesn’t prepare only one style of food. It reminds of Pedro Wong's Mexican Chinese Food restaurant in Payson, Arizona that had a menu that was split in half - one side was Mexican, one side Chinese. Not a good mix after all. Sure, it was the late 70’s and early 80's, but so what. Good food is good food. Mr. An wasn't an this night....we wanted sushi, but can a restaurant named "An" be Japanese at heart? We gave it a chance. The menu is extensive and we chose to sit in the very trendy bar, replete with large video screens at every turn. No matter, the world soccer cup info was well-received at our table so let's get on with the meal. We ordered multiple appetizers, sashimi, and nigiri sushi. A great choice that would give us an idea if we'd ever come back. Well, our first app came first, our sashimi second, our sushi third, and our second appetizer came last. Sadly, Mr. An must not eat sushi out at many of his competitor's establishments or else he would understand that ice-cold sushi has no flavor and is generally chewy and unforgettable, just like his. I know, many reviewers of this establishment gave the sushi here rave reviews so I am bound to test it again before giving my final judgement. Still, Mr. An’s forte is in their deep-fried items like the Deep-Fried Crab appetizer or the Coconut Shrimp, both outstanding, but not their sushi, which had little taste due to the icy temp of the salmon and tuna. The steak might be fabulous, too, but semi-frozen, chewy sushi is the bottom of the line, and if it wasn't for the fried menu items that we had and our attentive, well-meaning waitress, I would rate this establishment much lower. Our waitress was very kind and accommodating - my choice of premium sake is usually served cold, but since I wanted hot sake she had it heated for me. She missed a few important steps, though, when she neglected to ask if we wanted all of the appetizers served at the same time as the main meal, or as a meal, a question that should always accompany the selection of multiple appetizer choices. It would have been nicer to have served them all at once however our deep-fried Popcorn shrimp app came last and though it was excellent, we wanted it with the rest of our appetizer choices. This restaurant tries to be too many things to too many customers. Teppan steak is a great meal in itself so offer that alone. Sushi should be the main focus if that is what your restaurant offers, not as a secondary offering like at this restaurant . Appetizers that are deep-fried and delicious, which they were, should be their own specialty, not an add-on to a diverse menu that has no bounds. And if they are appetizers, please always ask your servers to inquire if you want them to be served alone and first, before the meal, like appetizers world-wide (at least in America) generally are, and not scattered about in any order. By inquiring like a professional server always should, the customer can then tell you whether or not the apps are the meal entirely. The atmosphere here is very nice by the way, with a choice of the bar and its cozy seating, the outside dining area with a fireplace for cool times, or the more peaceful main dining room. Mr. An, you need to get it on. The sushi needs major attention or it needs to go.

A reservation had been made a day before for 4 people, but when we showed up we still had to wait for a half hour to be seated. After we were finally seated waitresses were rude and at any moment did they have a smile in their face. They might have been tired but come on, it’s their job to provide a good customer service.. The teppan chef that we got was amazing and did a great job, but the waitresses sucked. At the end of our meal when the bill came. They charged me for the wrong plate, so I let the waitress know and she said that she was going to talk to the manager to have it changed but that it was about a $1 difference from the plate that I ordered to the one that i got charged for. When she came back to the table after 5-6 minutes she hands me the bill again and it was still the same amount. At this point we didn’t even tell her anything and we were just going to pay for it, I mean a $1 is not worth making a scene over. I showed the receipt to my wife and just made a comment to my wife about it being the same bill, and the waitress that was there picking up the dishes she looks at me and with such a bad attitude and proceeds to tell me. “It’s just a dollar”. Like trying to tell me to just shut up and pay it. To Which I understand it’s just a dollar, but if it were the other way around and I owed them the dollar they wouldn’t have let it slide. They have really bad customer service and the waitresses suckkkk.. and I want to tell that waitress in particular that she should quit her job if she doesn’t like what she’s doing for a living. That she does not have to take out her discontent of the life she is living on her customers. Geez, definitely no manners, okay that is all.. end of rant. But for reals, the food is great and the serving sizes are very fair. It is just the customer service that I was very very very disappointed in. Unfortunately I did not get the waitresses name but she was very very rude. I still left them the 15% tip because the chef did not deserve not getting tipped but the waitresses did not deserve a penny. Oh and they did give my friend a free ice cream because the day we went was her birthday! So at least they did that...

Updated: I received a voicemail regarding my visit and Caleb was able to adjust some things regarding my bill and offered a second chance to make up the experience and apologized for what had happened, this is where I intended to go for my birthday in July I felt very reassured so I will be stopping by next month for another try but it is much appreciated when someone calls back to make amends for a bad experience not many do this and this definitely left a better impression after the fact !

Have not been here in a while because of how expensive it is but decided to have a fun night with my husband and kids our chef was absolutely fantastic but will not ever be coming back prices were raised to an absurd amount for the portion you get my son and husband got steak they brought out the smallest piece of steak ever and he cut it in half !! And I ordered an extra side of scallops which was costly as it is I expected another full portion I got 5 scallops total and they were not big either and to top it all off they added gratuity on top of it and and we did have a party of 7 but it was only 2 adults and all of my children are 10&below 2 of them being under 2 last time we had dined in they did not do that because that was only if it was 6+adults and the waitress did not deserve a $45 tip she never checked in she seemed annoyed the whole time my bill was $315 only part I loved was our chef he made it enjoyable but the portions for the price is absolutely ridiculous I know the restaurant makes so much money off that and it’s sad how greedy this place has become I will take our business elsewhere can hire a private hibiachi chef to come to ur home for less then what we paid here, seems to be I’m not the only one who has the same opinion as an owner it’s not about money there’s a way to keep cost of supply down and still not skimp your customers. Super disappointed in our visit back used to...
