Huckleberry’s E. Bullard Fresno

Huckleberry’s in Fresno and Clovis are wonderful restaurants but, I DO NOT recommend the Huckleberry’s on E. Bullard in Fresno.

On Sunday, November 17, 2024 at approximately 12 noon my niece and I were asked to LEAVE less than 5 minutes after they had taken my signed check away. We were both still finishing our coffees.

Here’s what happened: My niece and I were regulars at the Huckleberry’s on E. Bullard in Fresno. We would come in almost every Sunday for the last several months.

We walked in and the hostess (tall lady wearing a black Huckleberry’s polo which indicated that she was a manager or assistant manager, who is always at the register signing in customers and ringing up tickets). The hostess said “Welcome back” when I gave my name.

We were sat at a booth. We noticed right away the staff was not as friendly as they usually are. When we finished our meal they came and very abruptly took our plates away without really asking us if we were done.

We were waiting for them to bring our check and finishing our coffees, I saw a staff member walk up (who wasn’t our waitress) and look at our table and when she saw we didn’t have our check she turned around and brought it to us. I immediately put my card on the tray and she came and took it right away. When she brought it back I immediately filled it out and signed it. She then came to take it away. Not 5 minutes later, while we were both still finishing our coffees, the hostess walked up to me specifically and said, “Can I get you anything else?” We said no. Then she said “Can I ask you guys to leave, we currently have a 30 minute wait for a table?” We said a stunned ok and started to get up. Then she asked again “Are you sure I can’t get you a drink to go?” We said no. As we walked out we noticed that there was an open/available table that was not occupied that could seat 4-6 people right across from our booth. Keep in mind, it was 12 noon on a Sunday, a 30 minute wait for a table is to be expected.

The sad part of it is, it was my birthday:( We hadn’t told them it was my birthday, but still what a sad thing to have happen on an otherwise wonderful day.

I suspect that the hostess thought because we were regulars and were always friendly to the staff that it was ok to ask us to leave.

I have lived in Fresno my whole adult life, 31 years, and I eat out very frequently, and I have NEVER been asked to leave any restaurant. You can see under my name on this review, I am a Google Local Guide and I have over 90 reviews and very few are negative. Unfortunately Huckleberry’s on E. Bullard in Fresno just lost 2 very loyal and regular customers as a result of...

I was not impressed with this restaurant at all. We went about 11:00 a.m. with lunch in mind. I don't like coffee shops much at all. But I had heard so much about how great this restaurant was I decided I would try it. Although it has a cozy quaintness about it, (or at least that's what it seems what they are trying to accomplish).I found the place to be needing a refresh in it's decor. It looks dingy, needs a double scrub!! Windows and menus greasy and fingerprinted, curtains dirty and faded, salt and pepper shakers, silverware have seen better days. Now let's talk about food I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich it was awful it was not even nicely presented the roll was smashed, the meat was very dry, it had little cheese and not good at all!! I did not eat but one bite, the fries were okay. My friend ordered breakfast (ham and eggs) he said it was good, it looked good. They are busy all the time and people seem to like it, but I can't figure out why. I won't go out of my way to go there again.Even though I live near by. If I do end of eating there because my party wants to I will stick with breakfast. The service was nothing to write home about either. Overall it was a lose lose situation because I really don't have anything good to say about it. Therefore I would have to rate it * (one star) but 0 stars is really how I feel about it!!! For coffee shop/breakfast cafe dining Go to Mimi's that's a super clean, very cute spot place with a wonderful menu. Great service. Delicious food. Creative menu items, features Season and theme weekly specials! The homemade breads, muffins and salad dressings are so special and wonderful. French onion soup is OMG just one item to write home about! I have alot of good things to say about them. I will be sure to review them but I will go check out what's new...

I’m visiting Fresno and came across Huckleberry’s. It had great reviews, pictures looked delicious and I was lured by the blueberry muffin. It was a Saturday and I was pleased to see a crowd, good indicator. Decor was cute, reminiscent of Huckleberry Finn. When I was finally seated I had a hard time deciding because everything looked great. I finally settled for the Mississippi scramble on egg whites and a coffee. This is where my disappointment begun. The coffee was very bland. I asked for something a bit stronger and was offered the French roast (which apparently is more). It was still bland, just a different taste. I left it at that. After what seemed a long time my food arrived. I was again disappointed at the taste. It was bland. I usually don’t like to add seasoning to meals I order but I caved and had to add some salt. It was just “blah”. The waitress never came by to check on how I was doing, except to drop off my check while I was eating. I had been done eating and it took a while to get someone (not my waitress) to come to my table so I could get a to go box. I got the sense that they were busy offering service to large tables because they would get a bigger tip and were just fine forgetting about me. I can understand they’re busy, but when you overlook my table and go on to the one behind me that gets me. By the way, my waitress never returned. I was checked out by someone else... and she was still on duty because I saw her helping the table behind me. Needless to say, they only got a 15% tip (I always tip 20%) and a bad review.

So, if you don’t mind bland food, and are going with a bunch of people then this is the place for you. But if you have taste buds and you’re going solo, save your time and money and find another spot.

This was our first time eating here.. The service was fast, friendly, our server did switch out and was not too attentive they didn't really check up on us much or ask how was everything or offer any suggestions or more coffee, when we we're ready to leave they took forever to bring check. The food was okay, I ordered Mardi gras beignets some were still doughy inside and the flavor was plain, I didn't like them. I also ordered Riverboat omelet which was fulfilling and good 👍, with the country potatoes they didn't have flavor to them, I didn't really enjoy those much even after adding salt & pepper they were mushy. Hubby got a side of ham with hash browns and French toast he enjoyed his food and was pleased with what he got. We did both got sick afterwards not sure if it was the food but most likely it was.We both got nauseous and stomach aches, the ruins and vomiting for the rest of the day, and that was the only thing we ate. Not sure if will ever go back.

The food, service, and ambience was wonderful! Like a little, southern slice of heaven, here in California! They even recognize military service members, which is a plus in my book… Oh my sweet baby Jesus!! I’ve died and gone to Hillbilly Heaven! The food is so flipping delicious make you slap yo Grandma,Mama, and Auntie! 🤤🤤🤤🤤 We got the Mardi Gras beignets, Fried greed tomatoes, and the Stacked Chicken and waffles! 🤤🤤🤤 Oh and you’ve got to try the swamp tea with huckleberries!!!! We had the pleasure of having Sarah as our server! She was wonderful and down to earth! We got to sharing experiences.. we compared their beignets with café Dumond in New Orleans… Huckleberries wins, hands down!😋😋😋😋 If you haven’t gone, go NOW! All these conflicting reviews and I’m telling you! The best food I’ve tasted in a while! AnD I love food!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪 @ Huckleberry’s

Hands-down, it’s one of my favorite breakfast places. It’s like you’re inside of a cabin so cute sometimes we want to fake we are in the mountains right? 🤣 food is so good, The service this last time I went was amazing. I don’t remember her name. I keep telling myself to get the servers name and I just never do. The fried tomato, My grandma absolutely loved it, It was about a 8 out of 10 for me which is still good i just wish the tomatoes were cut a bit thicker. The fried okra was so dang good, I wish I had a huckleberries close to me so I can just grab it as a snack, yum. Eggs Benedict is an amazing breakfast dish, My only complaint was I did not like it on the toast bread I like it on the individual Biscuits. Sausage is spicy,i added the avocados and the potatoes were good as well. The spicy ranch wasnt spicy and i liked it like that.
