I've done hundreds of reviews and only twice have i given 5 stars across the board for 1. Food 2. Service and 3 Atmosphere and 5 stars overall. In all honesty, if i could add a star, i would. I am not a huge BBQ fan; I like it but unless it's great, i can leave it. This place is off the charts great. I went on a Friday afternoon at 4p. It was very crowded but not much of a wait minus a 2-3 minute line to order. My wife and i both ordered a chopped beef sandwich. The guy standing there making the sandwich says, "is this y'all's first time here?" I say that it was and he starts handing me slices of brisket and cuts of sausage to try telling me, " check this out, your gonna love it" . He was right, i did and the wife did. The jalapeno / cheese sausage was awesome ( next trip) We also ordered three of the Texas Twinkies. As a side, i got the roasted cream corn and the wife got Mac and cheese. We both got sweet tea for drinks. Prior to today my absolute favorite chopped BBQ beef sandwich was blacks bbq in San Marcos, Tx. This one was just as good but they also over load the sandwich giving you enough to remove half (to make another sammich later) at your table and still have a big chopped beef sandwich to eat. This thing is GOOD. If you love bbq chopped beef/brisket, you won't be disappointed! The roasted cream corn was perfect... You literally couldn't have made it better. The sweet tea was made perfectly and the wait staff came to our table multiple times to check on us. FINALLY ( and i left this to the last intentionally) The Texas Twinkie... While I've had my share of jalapeno poppers from various places in Texas and even from home on the grill, This place has some secret crabby-patty-like recipe that they do. They were all huge jalapenos, cut open, seeds removed, cream cheese and brisket added and then perfectly wrapped in bacon. The best part is that the bacon is cooked perfectly crispy; not the nasty flabby semi raw bacon you get at most places.... No, ...Hutchins has perfected this process and everything from the brisket inside to the crispy bacon wrap on the outside is perfect. If that wasn't enough, when we ordered them, the guy places them on our tray and gives them all a quick dusting with a BBQ brush to give the bacon a sweet glaze. When you get to your table and slice into one of these things, take a bite and the flavor hits you, it's an almost religious experience that'll sure to bring a tear to the eye of every BBQ loving Texan who tries one. Short of the reproductive experience, there's just not a much better experience in life and this one you can do in public while making similar noises. The governor of Texas should make the Texas Twinkie the state bird or something... Put it on the flag, name a football team after it or just build a monument to it in Austin. At $5 each, two can make a meal for the average person. I personally ate one along with my sandwich and corn and was stuffed. I took two home for later. Our total bill was $70 but i bought enough to take some home later. Two people could get full with drinks here for around $50 ish which may seem a bit high but it's maybe just a tad higher than average over other lesser bbq joints. I've tried bbq in every corner of this state from El Paso, to Brownsville to Midland to Beaumont. Generally the best bbq is found and Austin, Luling, Lockhart, etc. but Hutchins has them all beat... Today i can proclaim that this is my favorite BBQ joint ANYWHERE and the Texas Twinkie Gods gift to Texans to let us know that we as Texans have things just a little better than everyone else. So glad my daughter's live 10 minutes from here.. Highly highly recommended! Oh, and do you like peach cobbler? If you do, it's all you can eat when you dine in... What?!? Unfortunately i don't like peaches but my wife loves it.. How bout some apple cobbler Hutchins? If you do, I'm moving in.
Update: I've been here 4 times now and they're consistently THE BEST bbq joint in Texas and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a cafeteria style restaurant where you get a tray, point out the meat and sides you want, slide the tray down to the cashier, pay, and then take your metal tray and go find your seat. Then you go get your own fountain drink.
The meat is the star here at Hutchins: Delicious wet brisket with a nice bark, dry rubbed roast chicken, juicy slow cooked beef ribs that fall apart, pork ribs, cheddar jalapeƱo sausage, Texas Twinkie (I still need to try that). Sides are tasty too but I would say kinda average: mac n cheese (nothing special but its there), brisket pinto beans, fried okra, creamed corn (this is my fav), cole slaw, broccoli salad (itās sweet, so if thatās not your thing, then avoid). If you dine in, then you get free dessert- the hot peach cobbler is fantastic. The crust is crisp on the outside, warm and soft on the inside, and there are so many peaches. So, so good. I wish I could eat seconds but Iām always stuffed after 1 serving. Thereās also banana pudding and vanilla soft serve.
I canāt stand syrupy BBQ sauce, and I canāt stand tough meat, so Iām a little picky when it comes to BBQ. Hutchins doesnāt serve tough meat, and it doesnāt do that syrupy sweet stuff. Thereās a lot of dry rub and itās why I like the flavor so much.
If you come around dinner time (like 6:30 PM), even on a weekday, be prepared to stand in line. We came for a late lunch (like around 1 or 2) on a weekday and there was no line.
When we dine in, a woman named Arlet is very friendly and very fast at cleaning the tables, getting plates and any to-go containers we need. Thank you Arlet!
Iām not sure there are any cons to Hutchins in Frisco. Well- The big drawback is the high price, but thatās inflation. Brisket is $37.99 per pound. So 3 slices of wet brisket here is easily 1 pound. Half a chicken is $12.50 ($24.99/pound). Each small side is $4.50. So the money flies away. I highly recommend eating in instead of takeaway so you can eat everything hot, and also take advantage of the free dessert. I always smell like BBQ smoke after leaving Hutchins, and need to wash my hair and clothes, but itās worth it. Just donāt come here with fancy clothes or your hair just done.
So good. Make sure you are really hungry before you go...

First off, let's talk about the manager, Gala. She is like the BBQ Yoda ā a wise sage of smoked meat who elevated our experience to stratospheric levels of deliciousness! From the moment we walked in, she greeted us like we were long-lost friends and immediately took us under her wing like a mama hen protecting her chicks. šš
With her guidance, we embarked on a flavor quest that involved a magical beef rib so massive it could have been the main attraction at a meaty circus! Imagine a beef rib that looked like it just won a bodybuilding competition, flexing its muscles right in front of us. šŖš„©
And then came the Texas Twinkies. Oh boy, these things were like a party in your mouth, and everyone was invited! They were so good I momentarily considered inviting them to be my plus-one to the next family gathering. Picture this: a jalapeƱo popper had a wild night with a brisket and then decided to throw a rave. It was chaotic, it was intense, and it was absolutely OUT OF CONTROL! šš„
Letās not forget the sides! The creamy mac and cheese had me questioning my entire existenceāhow could something be this good? I was ready to book a one-way ticket to Mac and Cheese Land, where I could frolic in a field of cheesy goodness. š§š¾
As we feasted, the aroma wafting through the air felt like warm hugs from the BBQ gods, making my taste buds dance to a country tune. Each bite was a little piece of heaven, and I started to wonder if I was actually in a BBQ fairytaleāwhere hot sauce flows like wine and every table is topped with brisket bouquets. š¹š
Hutchins is not just a restaurant; itās a culinary theme park where cows must be cheering because they know theyāve reached their meaty destiny! This is where smoke meets magic, and your soul eagerly begs for more. If you want an experience that raises your taste buds to a new dimension, THIS is the place! Iāll be back faster than you can say āextra brisket,...
