We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. We went for New Years lunch to this place. The 1st most glaring observation was that their 'Open' sign was not on. It had us confused for a bit if the restaurant was actually open or not. Now , if you are a store or restaurant owner , the most important thing you do before opening business is to conduct a store check to make sure all your equipments are working and to make sure if everything is neat & clean to welcome your customers. I cannot imagine how such a basic thing could have been missed. But this is just the beginning. We were acknowledged & shown our seats immediately. Unfortunately, the table was not clean. Next , we had to wait a minimum of 10mins for the water & menu to arrive. Now , I understand the restaurant was busy due to holiday rush but that is all the more reason for the business to anticipate the same & schedule staff accordingly. Like someone mentioned in the reviews below, the staff weren't smiling. I understand that it's a busy day but this is hospitality/customer service and you have to maintain a pleasant demeanor if you are trying to get business from paying customers. Next , coming to the food , we were hoping to have thali meals. Unfortunately, they only had the unlimited meals that is usually served on weekends. These weekend thali meals are charged at 20$ (veg) and 21$(non-veg). Now , the variety of food you get in the thali is strictly , just worthy of 15$ at best. We also noticed that customers who had arrived earlier than us , were served a few more varieties of food than what we were served. I can only assume that some of the food must have gotten over , but the restaurant still charged full price for the meal. This was extremely disappointing. Another disappointing factor was , the refill containers for the thali was kept on a table very close to the restrooms. Now , that's not a very good sight for the eyes , isn't it? If you are running a restaurant business , please be mindful of your equipments , cleanliness, staff scheduling (especially during peak hours) & training and last but not the least honesty to the paying customers. Their food tasted good but all of the other factors made this experience a very disappointing one. And the weekend thali is definitely...
Read moreI had to some time to kill before heading to my hotel on landing in Dallas. I found this place just by chance after doing an online search. I am super glad that I found it. I had been craving for authentic banana leaf vegetarian meals for a while. Options for that barely exist where I live in the US. It was a delightful experience.
I possibly came too early so I had the restaurant all for myself. I was told that the meal is even more elaborate on weekends. However there was nothing to complain about either the quantity or the variety on the weekday (Tuesday) that I went.
The veg meal has one fried starter ( a cauliflower preparation), two types of palya/poriyal, a sagu (particularly spicy and nice) to go with a good-sized poori, one “huli”, rasam and sambar. There is also a small portion of veg biryani or pulao. To go with all this is a bowl of rice. Also served in curd, a payasam and a glass of buttermilk. Pickles, appalam and fryums by the side.
If that reads like a lot, well it is. I think the quantity and portion was perfect and sumptuous. Enjoyed my experience and would highly recommend it.
The service was prompt, apt and timely. All with a smile and humility. I wish I could visit on a weekend but that is for you all to try...
Read moreWe went there on a Saturday afternoon and me and my husband had the unlimited thali . The kids ordered poori .. most of the items served in the thali was not fresh or cold . Even the veg briyani was served cold . Out of the two starters paneer 65 and gobI 65 only Goni 65 was good . But when asked for refills they said gobi 65 is being prepared and they kept serving paneer 65 which tasted like rubber. Gobi 65 was served after 20 mins that too 2-3 pieces and they serve when asked again . What kind of unlimited serving is this ? For curries sAmbhar was so watery and when asked if they any other curry they said rasam or yoghurt . I said we wanted some other curry and they served a Kara kulambu which tasted old and stale in a plastic cup .. that was it . We stopped eating . For the kids poori they served the same poori( a cold not puffy one ) that was served in the thali and charged $ 9.99 . After all this mishap they charged$ 20 for each thali that too for vegetarian? We were totally disappointed and will...
