You might be thinking to yourself: how is it possible that this restaurant has so many 5-star restaurant reviews? Is this real?!? That was our discussion when we visited Musume this Tuesday night. Two colleagues and I (two form SF and one from NYC) landed in Frisco around 5pm and were trying to find a spot for dinner. We nicely asked the hostess for a table without a reservation and were seated at a table. The atmosphere of the place was lively but not overwhelming, feeling more like a spot in San Francisco or London than at the Star in Texas BBQ land. Japanese inspired modern with an American twist, the place is approachable and comfortable while also feeling high end. The menu is a combo of steaks, sushi, and other banquety styled food, which you can order individually or family style. Many of the dishes have a string presentation element; we especially enjoyed the short rib wonton appetizer with its fire and smoke reveal (pictured in video). The sushi was also carefully constructed and tasted fresh and refined to match. There was really no weak dish that was served, everyone had a myriad of balanced flavors that made each bite satisfying. Above all though, was the service. Our server Larry welcomed us and was attentive and present for the entire meal. When he and the staff found out we were celebrating they made a special effort to acknowledge this and personalized the expertise, even giving us a handmade card signed by every member of the staff. I will definitely be going back to this place next time I’m in Frisco. We will always remember this meal because of the special touches that Larry and the Musume team added in for us. The least I can do is write one more 5-star review to add to the huge bank of positive reports. My only regret is that we probably won’t be able to walk in next time because this place is definitely gonna get popular!

Upscale chic casual restaurant with a really good staff and excellent food. Our waitress, KJ, made great suggestions and was knowledgeable about every dish and its allergens. She checked in with us often, which was good for us because we added on to our order several times. We tried, and recommend, Fire & Ice, Charred Corn Ribs (delicious! Each piece is on a cob, so bite the corn off the cob instead of biting through the cob), a sushi roll called Wrath (photo with only 3 pieces left, smoky soy sauce was a nice touch), another roll called Isla Bonita (spring roll in rice paper, see photo), and another roll called Black and Gold (the photo with all 8 pieces in a straight line). KJ wanted us to sample the fresh wasabi and brought it plated with fresh ginger and a wasabi garnish for comparison. The sommelier came to the table to discuss the wine we chose and decanted it for us. Every employee we spoke to was happy to tell us their favorite items on the menu. Great evening out, terrific service and inviting atmosphere. We sat at a table but they also have sofa and coffee table arrangements if you prefer that.

We had an incredible dining experience at Musume at The Star. Our waitress, Abby, was phenomenal! She guided us through every section of the menu and her recommendations did not disappoint. The corn ribs were to die for, the Morgan and Wrath rolls were fantastic, and the sashimi was unbelievably fresh. The cod with honey sauce was perfection, and the charred Brussels sprouts were some of the best we have ever had. We also had the pleasure of working with Unsal, the sommelier, who provided amazing sake recommendations. He took the time to explain each option and made sure we had drinks that perfectly complemented our meal. Between Abby’s thoughtful service and Unsal’s expertise, the entire evening was flawless. We can’t wait to return!

__________Dani (Bartender) Dani is an expert at step stools but can’t open a jar of pickles to save her life. She also cannot, and I mean cannot, make a spicy drink. Probably because she’s too sweet. I like my drinks like I like my women; visually stunning, colder than the arctic, and spicy enough to give me ulcers! Yeah, I'm hearing it now and I probably need to see a therapist.

That said, everything else she makes is top tier. Watching her mix a drink is like watching a magic show; her hands move in a blur, tossing in random stuff that somehow turns into pure perfection. Also, she is such a great listener!

And before you assume things, no, she doesn’t have stoner vibes. I know the septum piercing throws people off, but behind it is a sharp, funny, and ridiculously likable young lady… who just happens to fail spectacularly at making spicy drinks. But that’s OK. Nobody’s perfect, and Dani’s still an A+ human.

UPDATE: Dani begged me to let her try making a the spiciest drink. Who knew such evil could come from such an innocent looking Leopard (it’s Halloween tonight)?! It’s so spicy, I am no longer able to speak. Where’s the nurse when you need one! Btw, Giselle has been demoted to second place.

__________Beatriz (Hostess) I am not writing this under duress. Beatriz is not my bully. There is absolutely not a knife to my throat forcing me to write her the best review ever. Gulp.

Beatriz is charming, has amazing eyebrows, and an accent that could talk me into leaving my wife. I'm not even married! She always treats me like a VIP... probably because she likes me. (I mean, who doesn’t?)

Oh, and whatever you do, do not ask her about her self-portrait. She keeps it hanging in her closet for some reason. Don’t ask me why. Just… trust me, it’s a whole thing.

__________Giselle (Bartender) Giselle makes the spiciest drinks—probably because she is a spicy Latina. How do I know? Let me tell you.

One night, I asked her what dessert I should try. She glances over her shoulder like she’s about to leak government secrets, then waves me closer. In a whisper, she tells me to order the Spaniard goes to Thailand, like it’s a secret only meant for me. And of course, I fall for it. I order it immediately, feeling chosen. Special. Enlightened.

Then, just five minutes later, I see her do the exact same thing with some random Asian dude. The same shoulder check, the same whisper. That’s when I realized I wasn’t special… and that’s how The Spaniard Goes to Thailand (yes, that’s the actual dessert name) broke my heart.

Now I’m sitting here pouring out my soul to complete strangers on the internet, crying into my amazing cheesecake, and five pounds heavier. Beware of Giselle. She’ll charm you, feed you, and ruin your waistline. Well played, Giselle. Well played. I'll see...

The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was vibrant, and the staff was wonderful—but one person in particular made the entire experience unforgettable. At the front, we were greeted by an adorable redhead (I believe her name was Sammi), and she was nothing short of AMAZING.

After a long day of travel with three flight delays and lost luggage, I was exhausted, frustrated, and starving. We decided to stop at Musume at the Star for dinner and cocktails. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, but Sammi kindly seated us in the lounge area. We were grateful to have a spot, though admittedly a little disappointed since we had our hearts set on a table (which, given how busy they were, was probably wishful thinking on our part!).

What happened next blew me away. Sammi clearly noticed our disappointment, and as we sipped our drinks she suddenly appeared with a big smile and said, “Follow me—I have just what you need!” At that point, she could have led us anywhere and we would have gladly followed—but instead, she took us to a fantastic table. I honestly could have cried from relief and gratitude.

The way she cared for every single guest—while the place was absolutely packed—was beyond impressive. It wasn’t just about finding us a table; it was about her ability to read the room, anticipate needs, and genuinely want every guest to feel valued. That kind of attentiveness is rare, and it meant more to me than she’ll ever know.

In a world that often feels rushed and impersonal, Sammi was a shining example of kindness and professionalism. She is truly a gem, and Musume is incredibly lucky to have her on their team.

THANK YOU! We will...
