Joined 2 months ago after being a member at Lifetime for 10 years. Depending on what your interests are this may or may not be the gym for you.
I typically get in between 5:30 and 6:00 on weekday mornings to workout. The free weight area is usually a little too busy. It's not crowded but getting a bench in the dumbbell area is hit or miss. It's really an annoyance if you are trying to work a specific program but if you're flexible about what order you do your exercises it can be worked around. The biggest frustration is trying to find plates for the barbells. 25 to 45 pounds are common but you will definitely have to go on a search to find 5 and 10 pound plates. There is also a lack of mirrors in the free weight area which can make it challenging to ensure your form is adequate, especially when trying new exercises.
The weight machine selection is very good and I rarely have to wait (no pun intended) for a specific machine.
My wife attends the morning group classes and absolutely loves the boot camp. They are included in membership fees which is a huge advantage over Lifetime. Lifetime charges $150 a month in addition to membership dues for the same class. By the way, the membership dues are about the same between the gyms.
The primary feature that drew me in is the suspension/crossfit/alternative exercise area. I love the fact there is some "non-traditional" equipment to help change up the routine. Tire flips, sled push/pull, large TRX station, 40 yard dash, plyo boxes, etc. - I am very impressed with this equipment and it adds an element of fun.
The underground, climate controlled parking is a very nice feature too.
You must find an employee to grant you access every time you want to use the lap pool which is a bit annoying. It's an outdoor heated rooftop pool and only 25 yards (there is no 25 meter pool). There are only 3 lanes but it's rare to ever see anyone else in the water. This will likely be different during the warmers months though.
There is an abundance of all types of cardio machines. They are interactive with online accounts so you can customize workouts too.
The locker room leaves a lot to be desired. It is very clean and picked up of towels and other debris much better than Lifetime. The showers are very spacious and the grooming products are fantastic but there can be a shortage of stalls when it is busy. The layout of the locker room is extremely inconvenient though. It is organized into small bays with several lockers in each bay which creates mass crowding even when the gym is not busy.
The one major thing I miss about Lifetime is the clientele. The members were all very nice and supportive. While I have met several new friends at Cowboys Fit the general attitude in the gym is much different. There are many more uber-macho power lifter types. It can be intimidating to see so many guys with sleeves ripped out of their shirts all the way down to the waist, grunting and throwing weights and peacocking around between sets. I'm sure they are nice people but I prefer a more humble approach.
Last but not least, the employees are all very friendly and helpful. It's rare to not see a smile. While I have not worked with a personal trainer I have observed them a lot and they all seem very knowledgeable and do a great job of catering workouts to the member.
Bottom line, there are advantages and disadvantages to both gyms. I'm still happy with my choice to join Cowboys Fit but I do miss some features...

How would you feel paying over ONE THOUSAND a month for three months straight for personal training and instead of losing weight and toning up, you GAIN weight (FAT) and lose Muscle!? And that is after working out 5 days a week and maintaining a stringent diet that your quote-on-quote 'elite' trainer laid out for you--A trainer, who is in their 20s and completely full of themselves with less than five years of experience.
Wish I could say that the lackluster personal training results were a one-off phenomenon, but no, my husband also had the same outcome with the trainer. Gained fat and lost muscle. The gym bills itself as an elite fitness facility, but do not be fooled. All they are doing is trading on the Cowboy's name, which is probably licensed. Yes, the gym is big and looks upscale, however, the machines are poorly maintained and the overall cleanliness of the facility leaves a lot to be desired.
If there are any billing issues, it is a complete nightmare to clear up. They put me down for the wrong start date and kept on billing me a week earlier than they should for three months straight, and that is after alerting them to the issue the first month, the second month, and the third month, and them promising they will take care of it. All they do is point the finger at a different department as if it is up to you to go chase down the right person. I have better things to do, as I am sure you do too.
The staff and management just do not care about customer service. They will tell you one thing to your face, something else over the phone, and a different story in writing. They will feign ignorance and amnesia when questioned. No one knows what anyone is doing and no one keeps track.
Management is totally lacking and there is no supervision. There is no reporting. When it comes to the trainers, it is just a money grab. What makes them qualified? The online classes that they took? Or the amount of time that they spent at the gym? There is no set regime and no one looks over the program that the trainers put you on. The terminology used is not even industry standard. The trainer suggested that my husband needs at least 420 grams of protein and 350 grams of carbs per day. That may sound fine in and of itself, but the only way for you to attain that is by consuming over 4 THOUSAND calories a day, at the bare minimum. I was only interested in the gym for the personal training that they offer.
When we brought up a billing issue, that the front desk told us to take it up with the personal trainer. He said that he will take care of it. Half an hour later, when we were on our way home, he abruptly 'broke up" with us by text message. Very unprofessional and cowardly to say the least. We were left high and dry, all the while thinking that he actually cared. The poor results were not from the lack of effort of the client, but the poor knowledge and qualification of the trainer. He doesn't know what he still...
Read moreI wanted to follow up from my 3 star review on 8/10/19...because I’ve been contacted by two professional people from Cowboys Fit and that have absolutely gave me a change of mind about this Gym.
So on 8/11/19 the day after my horrible first visit to this gym, i was contacted by Rick, The too Personal Trainer at Cowboys fit. He wanted to schedule my first free workout assessment. I informed him of my feelings and reviews that i made on two websites on my first experience, he was was extremely apologetic, he empathized with me, and he promised to make things right...
On 8/12/19 i was contacted by Robert, i believe he is the Director of this gym and he informed that Rick had told him of my first experience and that he too wanted to apologize and make things right...he did make sure of that as well.
Since meeting with these two gentlemen, i have felt welcomed and appreciated, my experience at this gym has been great! And i hired a female personal trainer named Anna who is also professional and is working with me to accomplish my fitness goals for the next 6 months.
Seeing how this Team of Professionals came together to make things right and do business the way it should be done I’ve changed my review from 3 stars to 5 Stars.
I do recommend this gym, and if you have any problems...i recommend that you speak to the Gentlemen above!!!
..........
The below review was written 8/10/19 (My first day at this gym)
3 stars so far
Called to get directions being that it’s a bit confusing to get here...the CSR that answered the phone gave i guess the best directions that she could...i was a bit confused...
Then i finally found it...(remember i am a first time customer..NEVER BEEN HERE BEFORE)
She said ok the ladies dressing room showers and sauna is back here (pointing) and the workout area is upstairs(pointing again with fingers)
Then i asked about unlimited cryo therapy...the lady was a bit not knowledgeable on the added expense for this service..then she asked a guy behind her and i kept having to say (i didn’t hear you..he spoke kinda quietly) he informed the price for the monthly rate for unlimited cryo...i was fine with that...but then again ...pointing to the location where it was was kinda disappointing...IVE NEVER BEEN HERE BEFORE ...so i had to keep repeating that i am NEW...and had never been here before...
I guess i expected more from suck a beautiful upscale gym...a tour...1 free personal training assessment??? MAYBE??? I was ready to hire one today but now i will see how i feel after my own workout... i just expected more ...
I know that all of the little league gyms do it...why not this one?? Seems like a bunch of air traffic controllers more than anything..
Well let’s see how this goes...right now they get 2 stars...hopefully i can raise it to 5 stars...will keep...
