When is a business more than a business? It’s difficult to put into words what a caring company of loving people Hapa Cupcakes has proven they are. The other day I called the Fullerton location with an urgent (and unusual) request- and an employee named Anna went above and beyond to make a dream come true for my bride-to-be cousin. Because they are a company in high demand, having cupcakes delivered must be ordered in advance, but time was of the essence, so I had to try.
You see, last week Friday, my cousin got engaged to her amazing fiancé. Then a few days later she was so sick she was admitted to the hospital- she’s been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Mere days later, she would begin her long journey by undergoing surgery to remove as much of the cancer as possible, so as I said, time is of the essence- and I wanted her to have a wonderful experience to lift her spirits before this ordeal. One of the things she most looked forward to in the wedding prep stuff was cake tasting; and she felt like it just wouldn’t happen now. Anna helped make sure it did happen- and it was magical.
When I called, Anna listened to me sob and explain my predicament and she worked with me to choose flavors for them. I ordered 6 cupcakes and a Lyft driver brought the order of stunningly gorgeous cupcakes to the hospital. Anna even sent 4 extra cupcakes (perfectly chosen based on only a couple things I’d mentioned about flavors they like) and offered to work with them as their cake consultant once she’s well enough to come in and have a real tasting.
That night, in the oncology ward of the hospital, my beautiful bride-to-be cousin was blissfully happy with her husband-to-be and their delicious cupcakes. They loved every flavor, they laughed and kissed, and enjoyed a sense of peace and normalcy in the circumstances. If Hapa Cupcakes had merely been a “sorry we have to follow the rules” type of business, I’d have to try elsewhere, but this business isn’t like others. They care, they love what they do, and it really shows in exemplary products and service.
I should talk about the cupcakes since that’s probably why you’re looking for reviews. Their cupcakes are MAGNIFICENT! Mind you, we had quite a sampling size (10 different flavors, 2 of which were vegan) The texture, colors, and flavors are as perfect as their appearance. As a vegan who has gotten used to subpar offerings as far as choices, these were an utter delight. Vegans rejoice! You will love these!
The owners even took the time to send an email personally, and it just goes to show- they care about people above anything else. Thank you, Hapa Cupcakes for your detailed care and kindness, you are what other business should...
Read moreThey ruined my daughter's first birthday cake. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I had called to order this cake 2 months in advance. I choose a cake with donuts on top, with pink and teal as the color scheme. It was repeated back to me over the phone correctly so I figured everything was going to be perfect for her party. Fast forward to the day of her party and we go to pick up her cake. When I get there I see two donut cakes in the fridge, neither the colors I asked for so I figured they weren't mine. To my surprise the girl working the counter pulled out one of those cakes and gave it to me. She gave me a cake with white frosting and dark pink drip (not at all what I asked for). I asked her to show me the order form because this is not what I ordered. We look at the order form together where it clearly stated the colors I chose over the phone and where those colors were to be placed, including photo examples. What I got was completely different, and the wrong cake. Somehow they managed to get my daughter's name on the cake, so they had to have read some part of that order form which is incredibly confusing. The girl at the counter then said "oh you wanted it like the picture?"....UM YES I WANTED IT TO LITERALLY BE HOW I ORDERED IT.
They tell me they have to call the owners to see what they can do. I get a phone call a couple hours later and they said they would refund me $65 when the cake was $80. So on top of them ruining my child's first birthday cake, they wouldn't even refund me the entire cost of the cake they messed up. Someone had an order form with very clear instructions and chose to just make the cake however the hell they wanted. I don't know if the employee who made the cake was disgruntled, intoxicated, illiterate or just didn't give a s*, but it ruined our daughter's cake. Now when we look back at pictures of that day and see that cake, we're reminded of what they did. We will never give Hapa our business again. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Thank you, Hapa, for ruining our child's first birthday cake-something you can't...
