Long post ahead. We visited Mama Teresa's a few years back when we strolled around The Strand. That time, I was looking for a good local restaurants around the area and Mama Teresa's was among the top. Because I heavily rely on ratings and reviews, we decided to try to dine there and it didn't disappoint us. The vibe and food food was good. This was a few years back. Yesterday was a totally different story. We went to visit Galveston to relive memories and dining at Mama Teresa's, we thought, would complete the visit. We were greeted by a young lad, he was ok, whom I didn't see a smile as we walked to the resto. Maybe because it was scorching out outside at that time. We were an Asian family of 5- 2 adults 3 kids who came with a matching Hawaiian shirt. The lad told us we need to wait for 30 mins. We said we would gladly wait, despite the heat. The waiting area is shaded, though, but the weather was unforgiving. Past 15 mins my hubby courteously asked the young lad if there was a table for us already and he kinda rudely said there weren't and he said "I told you, you have to wait 30 mins". Hubby and I looked at each other in dismay of the staff's response. Luckily, there was a party of 6 who cancelled, so we were accommodated sooner than 30 mins. When we went inside, we waited for about 10 mins before we got approached. In my opinion, I felt like we were not welcomed because it took longer for us to be approached and were not treated the same as the rest of the guests in the resto. We ordered the fried mushrooms, spaghetti, fetuccini alfredo, and mama teresa's supreme pizza without olives (we're not a fan of olives so we asked it to be removed). The fried mushroom was lacking flavor. Our kids enjoyed the alfredo, it was creamy and flavorful. The pizza was crunchy at the bottom but becomes a bit saggy after a few minutes of being served. Our waiter checked on us for about 3 times, which was a plus and was attentive. However, after the bill was paid and tip was given (we gave a decent tip like we always do) , it's as if we're invisible. Waiter/ no one said thanks for coming on our way out. The young lad who sat as at the beginning didn't even bother holding the door for me even if he saw me coming out while I was carrying my toddler. Again, I was observing how they are treating others and felt like we were treated differently. Even if Mama Teresa's is famous in the area and are sought after, I hope they will remain and will still be as accommodating to everyone regardless of race or etc. as any...
Read moreCame to Galveston from Baytown to see a friend and drop off a present for him..turns out he works as a waiter for Mama's. I decided to make it a date night for myself and the wife, and it couldn't have been a more perfect accident. She ordered a Tuscan salad with tomato basil soup..i ordered fried ravioli for the app to share..(exquisite golden brown fry with creamy melted cheesy center)and also I ordered a self created pie with pep, meatball slices, onions, and garlic. A side of house made ranch.. Watching the pizza chef with anticipation, whilst enjoying the delightful crunch of the fried ravioli and attentively listening to my wife rave about the fresh salad and house dressing; I watched this delicate genius carefully caress my pie with kisses of a hell fire hot stone hearth on all sides. Making sure to evenly cook the muti layered greatness perfectly. And it was so... After 10 mins or so Kai (an exceptional waiter in his own right) presented to the table a delicious envisioned creation expertly executed. The cheese had mended with crisp edge bits of pepperoni and the thinly sliced flavorful meatballs, bites of roasted sweet onion and hints of fresh garlic, all sitting on the most perfectly cooked crust imaginable. Unyielding to the weight of the premium ingredients with the ability to "tap" on the bottom and hear a knock sound solidifying comfort and stability, while still breaking effortlessly with each eager bite. A wonderful single cannoli served us as a beautiful reward for an immaculate experience. Bravo mama and thank you for the...
Read moreWe were greeted before we even arrived at the door of the restaurant by the hostess and it was around 8:30 PM on a Tuesday. We are in town for a Royal Caribbean cruise tomorrow. We were seated immediately and there was only 1 couple seated in the restaurant and several at the bar area. Everything was clean and nicely decorated. Our waiter was Will and the Hostess was Cecilia and they were both fantastic. Cecilia was personable, bubbly, and a generally fun person to meet. Will was a guy's guy and was personable, polite, helpful, and attentive. My husband ordered the Shrimp Poboy and I ordered the Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo + mushroom (I will try to add pics). His Poboy with fries was huge and my food was also plentiful, I left with a to-go box. We also ordered Hot Wings as an appetizer and they were a good size and crunchy with a nice spice. We ordered a bottle of Moscato and it came out cold and in a wine chiller, it wasn't our favorite brand but it was Cupcake and it was pretty good. The restaurant was small but not in a negative way, it was cozy and rather romantic especially since there wasn't many people there. The ambiance was nice because the lights were dim. The couple next to us had pizza and it looked and smelled incredible. When we left we were thanked and given well wishes....I couldn't have asked for a better dinner experience. Next time we are in Galveston we will be back to try the pizza 😊
*Oh btw the hot bread that came out was really soft in the middle, crunchy on the...
