Y'all better get yourselves down to Shrimp N Stuff pronto! The wait staff here is phenomenal but I tell ya, ask for Ravaughn (pronounced Ray Vaughan, like Stevie Ray Vaughan... he'll letcha know). Been there forever, never writes anything down and never gets anything wrong.
We've been her several times and has never been a disappointment. Over these times we've tried (from what I can remember) the shrimp po-boy, fried oyster po-boy, shrimp gumbo, chicken and sausage gumbo, house salad (which is a meal in itself), blackened fish tacos, and shrimp tacos.
The po-boys...I don't know if they bake their own bread but wherever it comes from must be close to bread heaven...crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside bread goodness.
The gumbo...soooo much flavor, not salty which I find in most gumbos. Shrimp not slimy, not rubbery, juuuust right.
The tacos....as you can see from other reviews of mine, I like tacos. The tacos here are some of the best on the island. The original location of Shrimp N Stuff (Ave O at 39th St.) only offers fried foods and don't get me wrong, fried fish is good, but can lose its flavor in my opinion. At this downtown location, you can get the fish in your tacos fried, baked, or blackened. I highly recommend blackened. They'll also come loaded with coleslaw, a thousand island-ish sauce, & a bean and corn relish. OMG, I could eat these all the time!
Hush puppies....meh, wouldn't bother to be honest. Fried little balls of flavorless cornbread. No pizzazz at all, no heat, no sauce.
I've never had a mixed drink here so can't speak to that but have enjoyed my fair share of pints here and EVERY SINGLE TIME those sons-a-guns are cold as ice...the best way to have a pint of beer.
I highly recommend eating here, hanging out here and having a few drinks. Always clean, always nice staff, food never disappoints, close to almost everything touristy, just a great...
Read moreBeen coming to the downtown location since it was in the courtyard behind the Tremont. RhaeVaughan always remembers me and is friendly and efficient. I’ve had the seafood stuffed jalapeños, Besitos, fried oysters, fried shrimp basket, cold boiled shrimp and just tried the cold shrimp salad. It’s enough for two! Filled with large cold boiled shrimp in a remoulade sauce, diced tomatoes, eggs, cucumbers and sliced avocados on top of a bed of mixed greens. Absolutely delicious! Never been disappointed here and the new location on 25th is larger. My daughter had the shrimp PoBoy and fries and left nothing on her plate. Husband had fried shrimp and same result. He LOVES their hush puppies! Thank y’all!
Update: went 7/8/21 for cold boiled shrimp, 14 for &12, big & juicy with great flavor. Husband had cole slaw and hush puppies on the side. We sat at the bar, Mihaela was efficient, welcoming and courteous!
Update: I tried the Shrimp Salad Stack today. Oh my goodness the delicious. A side salad of mixed greens, crisp toast points and a tower of avocado, tomato and shrimp salad. I asked for a ride of remoulade instead of the Italian but it comes with an olive oil pesto underneath the tower of deliciousness, so I really didn’t need the remoulade but theirs is so good I ate about half. Paired with a super cold Sauvignon Blanc and RhaeVaughns smile and subtle attentive waiter style…I was a happy camper. He always says “see you tomorrow” which I find endearing, confident and thought provoking. Everything super fresh as always! 5/26/25 We were hot, hungry and sweaty after walking from the Strand to the SeaWall and back. Yulia got us water, wine and tea pronto! I had the shrimp stack (my go to)!and husband had the cold boiled shrimp. Perfect! Fantastic as always! Rhaevaughn’s ready smile and “see you tomorrow” base...
Read moreLet me start by saying a big "Thank you" to the entire staff at this establishment.
My wife and I were looking for somewhere to eat late, and a gentleman had recommended this location. We arrived just shy of them closing and instead of turning us away, they were beyond gracious enough to serve us possibly the best freaking sea food we've ever had.
I'm a big fan of salmon and shrimp and my wife loves shrimp. I had the blackened salmon and she had the popcorn shrimp.
The salmon was cooked to absolute P E R F E C T I O N!!! I haven't had a blackened salmon that damn good in almost 20 years. THAT is how amazing it was. The popcorn shrimp was large for its size. Almost could consider it to be "Jumbo popcorn shrimp". I also think it was the first time EVER I told her, I should have gotten the shrimp because it was that much better. Do not get me wrong, the salmon was freaking amazing. However, the shrimp lives up to the first part of the restaurant's name. It was that damn good!!
To the chef and servers, I seriously cannot thank you all enough for still serving us with a smile even after a long day. It was an absolute pleasure to dine in your restaurant and enjoy the dishes that were prepared.
To the manager: As I mentioned, we will be back with our kids the next time we are in the area. It was our honor to not only find a gem, but an area that I would damn sure recommend to ANYONE that is looking for a place to eat, dine, relax and enjoy possibly the BEST sea food that is...
