If I could give zero stars I would! Since I canāt Iām going to give a brief summary of our experience.
My husband and I went to enjoy a nice dinner in downtown Galveston. We like smaller owned businesses and wanted to get away from the craziness on the sea wall. We are seated at 8pm and the waitress takes our drink order and appetizer order. (My husband changed from the regular edamame to the spicy edamame, and Iāll explain this at the end) She also explains how their happy hour works with ordering by the piece rather than the roll. This made us excited because we love trying new sushi roles and this allowed us that opportunity, where we live we donāt get sushi that often but love it and make a point to get it when we can. She goes and puts in the appetizer order. 5 minutes or so rolls by and she brings out the appetizers, and takes our meal order. (Still no drinks though) We eat our appetizers completely and sit for another 5 minutes or so and still no drinks. So I caught another waitress and asked if she could have ours bring our drinks. The OTHER server promptly brings them out to us......so we sit for a little while and visit (our waitress still nowhere in sight). I finish my tea and need some more, so I asked the other server once again if she could have ours come and get us refills. Our server finally comes out to get my glass to refill it. (Very rudely I might add, like doing her job was a bother to her!) When she returns she says our food will be out momentarily, this was roughly 8:35ish. A gentleman comes and sits at the table next to us (Iāll explain this importance in a moment). We sit and wait for a little while longer, visit, and just enjoy the atmosphere. 9pm rolls around and Iām starting to get frustrated mainly because our waitress hasnāt checked on us at all since refilling our drinks! At 9:05 the gentleman that showed up well after us gets his food brought out to him (sushi by the piece just like our order). I asked his server to get the manager. Manager comes out, we fill him in on what has happened and he says he will check on it and get our food out to us as soon as possible. He also says he will make this right before we leave. Not even 2 minutes later our server brings our food out, no apology or anything. We start eating and the sushi is warm like it had been sitting! My avocado on some of the sushi was even browning. The manager comes out and asks how everything is and I inform him about the food tasting like it had been sitting for a while. Again he informs us that he will take care of this and we had nothing to worry about. We finish eating and ask for our check. So here comes the manager and our server. He tells us he can give us a free dessert for the troubles we had this evening. My husband and I looked at each other and both told him no thanks just give us our check so we can leave! Our bill was $100.43 for the two of us! After we had left is when I noticed she never took off the charge for the regular edamame which was $3.50. All be it yea itās only $3.50 but after everything it added insult to the situation! And you can use the excuse of āoh they were busyā or whatever but in reality they had roughly 10 tables inside and 3 outside....if thatās so busy they canāt keep up with orders then how are they even still in business?!
I am not one to usually post reviews about restaurants, but this made me absolutely infuriated and frustrated! I just wanted a nice, peaceful dinner with my husband on our babymoon vacation, but apparently that was asking too much!
Edit 6/12: The owner of this restaurant reached out to us personally apologizing for the situation that occurred. He took action to ensure that we had a better take away experience than we did last night. His care for customer satisfaction is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI do not usually do reviews... that being said, I actually downloaded the yelp app SOLELY to provide a review for this establishment. Here is what I said: Our experience was beyond horrible! We sat in the large booth at the entrance. It was disgusting. There were food and crumbs all over the seats. The wait staff was extremely rude and UNPROFESSIONAL. They were out of cups with lids for our children, so the wait staff went next door. There was only one high chair, so again the wait staff went next door. The menu seemed pricey, but we were willing to give it a shot considering the descriptions and menu photos seemed great! When our food finally came out (it was quite the wait) it looked absolutely a hundred percent different than the photos! It was BARELY room temperature, and we had ordered the Teriyaki steak! The possibly 4 to 6 oz of meat that was so very scarce, was on an enormous mountain of under seasoned and undercooked zucchini. No sauce or marinade on this "teriyaki". The fried rice was absolutely disgusting! For almost $25 per plate, I was livid! I returned my plate, though the guests with me went ahead and ate their's very unhappily due to the long wait, late hour, and major hunger. When I did send my plate back, I was greeted with thinly veiled disdain. As we were there, much commotion at the register began, we eased dropped, which wasn't hard due to the volume of the discussion. Apparently there had just been a bad review posted by a customer who had left only moments before we arrived and the staff was going on and on about it! This conversation continued and even ended up in front of the restaurant, out in the street, right outside our booth's window! We couldn't wait to leave! After paying, we noticed our waiter open the receipt book, and along with other staff at the register, mock the $10 tip that he received. It was 10% of our bill, and he was so very lucky to have received that! On our way out of the building as we walked across the street to our vehicle, we could still hear the loud and ongoing discussion between upper management and some of the staff about the bad review they had received. We actually had to walk riggt next to them in order to leave. They seemed to be badmouthing customers right in front of other customers which was so very rude and unprofessional. This place was a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ordered from Sky Bar Steak and Sushi via Uber Eats during my child's birthday weekend in Galveston, and it was an excellent experience! My child specifically requested sushi, and this place did not disappoint. The fried rice was perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious, and the crispy vegetable spring rolls were light, crispy, and bursting with flavor.
The sauce that accompanied the spring rolls was incredibleāso good that we ended up adding it to the fried rice, and it took the dish to the next level! We didnāt think the fried rice could get any better, but the sauce made it unforgettable.
We also tried the Shaggy Roll, Texas Roll, and Galveston Sunrise Roll, and each one was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. While the rolls were slightly smaller than expected, the taste and quality more than made up for it. Everything was well-packaged and arrived fresh, which made dining in so convenient and enjoyable.
Sky Bar truly added to our special weekend with their amazing food. Highly recommend ordering from them for a delicious and memorable sushi experience...
