Captain D's — Restaurant in Georgia

We have not eaten at Captain D's for years.

I was searching online for healthy fast-food options, and when Captain D's came up, I almost looked past it thinking they offered only deep fried items. I happened to glance at their full Nutrition Guide on their website and am glad I did. While they do provide a complete selection of fried foods, they also have a grilled food selection.

The service was excellent. The young lady helping us at the counter was friendly and offered good advice on menu selection even making personal recommendations. A staff member came to our table asking about our meal, and when we left, we were asked if we enjoyed it. Very personal service even though we arrived during a dinner crowd.

Our food was prepared fresh for our order. It was served hot. Both my wife and I were very impressed with the taste and quality of our meal. I had read reviews where people talked about portion sizes being small. We did not find this to be the case. We ordered the Grilled White Fish with Grilled Shrimp Skewer (280 calories) with sides of Green Beans (70 calories) and Steamed Broccoli (20 calories) the meal was served with Rice and a Bread Roll. We did not eat the rice or bread so our entire dinner was 370 calories and we both were satisfied and filled. Our experience was that we received a good portion of food for the price we paid.

The restaurant was clean, and at various times during our visit, we observed staff members out cleaning tables and wiping down surfaces.

The setting for Captian D's is not like most fast food locations. It was more laid back and comfortable. It appeared more like the old family style restaurants with a fast food flair.

Saturday evening, 8/31 app. 6:30. My wife and I visit this location along GA 400 quite frequently. Our most recent visit was, by far, our worse. Let me count the ways. We both has cole slaw which we enjoy. However, something was different about the taste. Neither of us could eat it. My wife ordered the 10 pc. butterfiy shrimp. They were over cooked, tough and dry. I ordered the senior fish and shrimp dinner. Usually the two fish filets are more than enough. As with my wife’s shrimp, mine were also over cooked. The fish filet was about half the size of the usual filet (thus I order the senior version), lacking in the nice crispy batter and was obviously not the same species of fish we are usually get. It was different, and dryer also. The okra was fine and the hush puppies were as good as I’ve come to expect. The front staff was very friendly and accommodating, so there’s no problem with them. Wevwill try this restaurant one more time. If the food quality is like it was on our most recent visit we will be looking for another place to fave dinner. Tonight I was turned away at the drive through at 8:30 after having sat in line for at least 15 minutes. I was told "We're closed, hon." right after they had taken the order of the person in the vehicle in front of me. There were also 2 other vehicles behind me in line. The hours posted directly under the speaker still say they are open until 10:00 pm. If that is not the case then the correct hours should be posted. I understand that times are strange right now and operating hours might not be the same but at least post them. And if someone is in line and has been waiting then take their order and serve them. Would you let someone stand in line inside the store and then tell them you are closed once they reach the register?
