Wow! This place is phenomenal in a variety of ways.
The food is exceptional and I am always excited to try flavors that are new to me. We got the whole tilapia—actually, we got a second because it was so flavorful—as well as the fried fish that was cut up. The fried fish was crispy and tender but, since it was fried, not as moist as the whole tilapia (still yummy). We also got turkey tail and chicken. I don't eat poultry so I can't speak to it but I am told they were delicious. We got a second serving of chicken as well. I really liked the spinach side and the cassava side. We tried all of the rices; the jollof rice was a little spicy but very flavorful, the rice and beans also good and not spicy, and the standout was the coconut rice. I could have just had that coconut rice for my entire meal and I would have been happy. Fufu was great, as were the plantains! Some dishes are a bit spicy but nothing we couldn't handle, though maybe a little too spicy for little kids.
Portions were huge and fairly priced. We got 5 plates for 8 people and went home with a ton of leftovers we are looking forward to eating at home. We probably would have been fine with 3 plates but we were greedy and wanted to try everything (and get repeats of what we liked). There's a lot we missed but we will certainly visit again.
The dishes are all in the buffet in the back so you can see what you are getting (I much prefer this to guessing based on a menu description or going to Yelp for pictures). Service is attentive, patient, and, frankly, educational! The server was very helpful in explaining what was in each dish, and went the extra mile by explaining which dishes were Ghanaian or Nigerian. The server was also very patient when I asked how to eat certain dishes and with what sauces, how to eat the fufu, etc.
We've been waiting for this place to open for a long time and we are grateful it is finally here! Can't wait to go back. I hope you check it out and expand your gustatory world if you haven't...
Read moreI visited this restaurant yesterday, and it was my second time there. I had previously shared my positive experience with a friend, highlighting how good the food was the first time I visited. On my first visit, I enjoyed the stew fish with jollof rice, although I found it a bit unusual that they used a microwave for some of the food. I generally prefer meals to be made fresh to order, particularly when it comes to fish.
However, my experience yesterday was disappointing. I had the fish and stew with jollof rice and plantain, along with peanut soup featuring goat meat and white rice. My friend ordered okra and pepper stew with pounded yam. Unfortunately, the fish was quite dry and had an overpowering fishy flavor, while the plantain was also hard. The jollof rice lacked flavor, and the stew resembled spaghetti sauce more than what I would expect from a traditional stew, especially given the price. The portion sizes seemed small, with only two scoops of rice and a single scoop of stew, and my fish was served without any sauce.
Additionally, the peanut stew was quite watery, and the goat meat was tough and chewy. The okra appeared to be past its prime, as I noticed some sticks and vines mixed in, and the pounded yam had visible chunks that needed more thorough preparation.
I was genuinely looking forward to a great meal, so this visit left me feeling quite dissatisfied. I think there’s potential for improvement in both the quality and presentation of the food. I would recommend the restaurant focus on enhancing the freshness and flavor of their dishes to better meet customer expectations. At this point, I hesitate to recommend it to others based on my...
Read moreA man verbally assaulted my mother at this establishment, and the staff failed to properly address the situation. He was hostile and impatient while waiting in line, shouting profanities like, “Lady, hurry up, you’re taking too damn long,” and even telling her to “shut up” as he aggressively approached her. No man should ever speak to a woman, especially one older than him, in such a disrespectful manner. Despite his unacceptable behavior, the staff and owners neither apologized nor asked him to leave, and he was still served. It’s clear they prioritize business over the well-being of their customers. While the young woman at the register was kind and apologetic, the woman who owns the restaurant and an older male staff member showed little sympathy and offered no words of consolation. This was extremely disappointing. We’ve been loyal customers since they opened, but after this incident, we won’t be returning. If this is how they treat their patrons, they no longer deserve...
