Date Visited 05/2024 So, I decided to venture into Mexican Restau in the Gig Harbor area after reading some reviews.
Food: In my opinion, portions are generous and perfect for sharing. Presentation is pretty basic. Now, if you dissect the BA Cali burrito, you’ll find more fries than meat with three medium shrimps. They should call it the “super stuffed fries burritoway.”
The sopes don’t quite hit the mark for Mexican food, but they’ll do. They come in a large portion, enough to make two meals out of them.
Chips and salsa didn’t show up automatically like at other places. No one asked, and our server didn’t bother to check if we needed more. Probably an extra charge. But hey, the salsa was delicious and tasted fresh.
I love the condiment section, where you can mix and match. And for soda refills, you’re on your own.
There’s also a small bar area, though I’m not sure if they do happy hour.
Service: Our waitress was this tall, gorgeous brunette, but her personality was as lively as the walking dead. She seemed to be on autopilot, just waiting for us to place our orders so she could clock out. She barely did the basics. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but seriously, you’re in the food biz—you gotta have some source of energy. I honestly should’ve just stayed home cuz It felt like my family and I were a burden to her. Ever get that vibe from your servers? And then they expect a handsome tip for their basic service. This place is definitely going on my “Fridays NOT TO RECOMMEND and GO TO” list.
Recommendations: If you’re headed this way, Puerto Vallarta Restaurant is the move. Better service and slightly...
Read moreFirst time here. My wife and I had a low opinion of the Port Orchard restaurant after several visits years ago. But we were walking around the Uptown outdoor mall deciding where to have lunch and happened upon the Gig Harbor restaurant. It looked different enough from the P.O. place and we decided to give it a try.
My wife ordered the chicken burrito, I ordered the carne asada plate. We also ordered margaritas--blended. They were large and fabulous BUT I got chest freeze and we both got head freezes like I'm sure many of you can relate to. The key to avoiding that is to either sip from the glass or to sip from the straw MUCH MORE SLOWLY.
My wife enjoyed her chicken burrito, and enjoyed the rice and refried beans that she sampled from my plate. I greatly enjoyed the carne asada. The skirt steak wasn't chargrilled the way I like, but it was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was beautifly seasoned as were the rice and beans. It even included a roasted jalapeño chili pepper and green onion. A few Mexican restaurants no longer put these on the plate.
So the food rates four stars. This 5th star is for the customer service. There were three people on duty: a guy behind the food counter, a female server, and a female bartender. All three were welcoming, friendly, displayed sincere smiles. We really enjoyed our meal because of the high food quality and the friendly atmosphere generated by well-trained employees who clearly enjoy their jobs. You can bet we will be back. In fact, we're planning our return visit for the...
Read moreNot sure what's going on here...Used to be a must for great tasting, fast, reasonably priced food. Our experiences have headed downhill for the past few years and can't all be blamed on Covid. Tonight's (snowy Tuesday) experience had our family of 4 popping in before a movie giving us over an hour to grab a quick bite. Instead of ordering at the counter as always, we were told they had a lot of take out orders and were asked to sit for someone to "wait" on us. We waited and waited. We watched people come in behind us, order at the counter and then sit down to eat. After some time someone showed up to ask for a drink order (waters all around) and then insisted on coming back again to take our food order. All in all by the time we got our food, we had 5 minutes to eat and had to box the rest up to get to our movie. I'm not sure when protocol changed to some customers being asked "sit and be waited on" while some customers order the standard way. And when did take out orders take precedence to those standing right in front of their counter. Their prices went up, food quality and...
