My BFF & I went here after a shopping in the beautiful Gig Harbor shopping center. It was about 6:30p when we went in. At this restaurant, you walk up to the register to place your order. After deciding what we were going to order, we had a few questions and wanted to add mushrooms to a pizza but only have it on half of the pizza. For some reason, this seemed to bother the cashier, and she just stood there staring at us for a moment. I was trying to lighten the mood, and I was joking. I said that for the pizza we were ordering, which comes with mushrooms, they should put all the mushrooms from the other side & just put those on the half that would be great. The cashier just blankly stared at us and said, 'we don't do that, I'd have to charge you more for that. Would you like me to add that to the pizza? There will be an extra charge for that '. My BFF & I just looked at each other, and then I said, "No, just forget about it." The cashier finished taking our order and walked away. We didn't know what to do. Do we seat ourselves? Do they seat us? There was no signage, and since the cashier had just walked away from us after giving us the card with our number, we assumed that we were supposed to seat ourselves. We started to walk towards a table, and the cashier walked up to us, as if we were stupid and said: 'they seat us'. So we stopped, waiting to be seated. We get to our table and sit down. A young man brings us our drinks and goes away, and things were fine. When our salads were ready, they were delivered to our table, but we had no silverware. We were looking around for a server, but couldn't see one. I finally flagged down a server who was also the cashier who took our order. She went and got us some silverware and left the table to attend a table she was serving. A young lady dropped off our pizza and left. It looked great!!! We started eating it, and it WAS great. The only issue with the pizza was that the bottom of the pizza was soggy, so we needed napkins. We looked around for a server, but none were nearby. We waited a minute, and I finally flagged down a server. It was the cashier young lady again. I explained that we needed napkins. She went, got the napkins, dropped them off, and left. At this point, I was wondering if we were supposed to have a server for our table, or not, but as I looked around the restaurant, I saw other tables being 'served' as in, servers were talking to the people at their tables, they were attending to all the normal tasks that a reasonable person would think a server would do. Asking if the customer wanted another beverage, getting the silverware to the table when or before, food came to their table, clearing plates, asking if they wanted dessert, etc We didn't have any of those experiences. We didn't appear to have a dedicated server. No one came to ask us if we wanted more drinks, how our food was, if we wanted dessert or anything else. When we finished our meal, a server, the same cashier young lady, came to our table with our bill. She was quite chipper at that point. She was all smiles and pleasant as she handed us our bill. She stood at the table sweetly, explaining where the tipping section was on the electronic pad that had our bill on it, pointing to the tip section, standing there waiting for it to be filled out. Bc the young woman just kept standing there, uncomfortably watching my friend fill in the tip and total out our bill, my friend felt obligated to leave a much bigger tip than should have been given. As my friend was taking care of our bill, I asked the server if there was a dedicated server for each table. She responded, 'kind of', explaining that each server was 'kind of' responsible for a section, and at the end of the night, all the tips are split evenly between the servers. So, essentially, we served ourselves that night. In summary, Our food was FANTASTIC, the service was most...
Read moreMy favorite pizza place in all of Washington! I drive from Federal Way for the Il Greco and the Incredible Pepperoni! They have the most delicious wood fired pizzas (the char is supposed to be there people!). Their mouth watering pepperoni pizza rolls are to die for, that is if I can ever get any since they are the first thing my husband devours. Their Caesar salad is seriously fresh, like so fresh you won’t find even one wilted piece of lettuce! And they have the most addicting flat bread, I like it with the white bean spread, my husband prefers it with the fresh mozzarella and the fresh marinara. You can’t leave without getting the Affogato, it’s really delicious! We pay the toll just to come to Fondi and it is worth every penny! The Gorgonzola dip is a game changer for the pizza rolls, I am now willing to fight for my share of pizza rolls to dip in the Gorgonzola
Also for anyone complaining about their chairs not being...I don’t even know, fancy enough?! I have pictures of my baby girl at every age sitting or being held in Fondi’s wooden chairs or on the bench (which is my favorite place to sit because I can sit next to her and she can climb into my lap and climb back out at her whim. It’s a family restaurant, the chairs, the tables, the whole restaurant is ALWAYS clean, yes the chairs might have gotten some use, but that’s just because so many people love bringing their whole family here. You always feel welcome and at ease at Fondi. No one's going to give you a sideways look if your kid Is enjoying their pizza a bit loudly. The wait staff is always so friendly and always looking to help, all you have to do is ask them and they will try their best to help make your experience amazing. I’ve been coming to Fondi since they had the Kent Station location open. If you’re looking for mouth watering fresh food you won’t find a better restaurant in Federal Way, Tacoma, or Gig Harbor.
With everything super crazy right now it's nice to know I can still depend on Fondi to have delicious affordable meals to go, and I just ordered using the app mentioned on their website for the first time (since dining in isn't an option right now I thought I'd check it out) it's called toast take out and I got $14 off my whole order! I have a family of five so $14 off is a pretty nice savings. I completely recommend their...
