On our way home from the Zoo, we decided to try the Lunchbox Lab Restaurant in Gig Harbor, Washington.
Like many different places, its location was in a retail park, mini-mall, or strip plaza; whatever term you want, Lunchbox Lab was surrounded by many shops, businesses, and other restaurants.
Walking inside, it had a little feel of modern industrial décor. I'd say close to being a fuss-free look; there were metal chairs and exposed piping, earthy tone colors with splashes of blues. I don't know whether the piping is being used for something or only as a prop; of course, the many lunchboxes that finished the scheme set it off from other trendy industrial restaurants I have seen.
It was a lot of fun looking at those lunchboxes; it took us back to when we were very young, carrying one to school.👧🏽👦🏻
They had two menus, a regular one with several styles of Burgers; they also offered fish & chips, some appetizers, milkshakes, etc., and a special Korean menu. I don't know if that is a regular or a limited-time menu.
I ended up ordering Korean chicken fried rice off the Korean menu; I can't complain about the size; I had tons left over, even after my hubby helped himself to a few bites; nonetheless, it was full-flavored and yummy!
Hubby ordered a Smokin' Hawaiian Burger with extra crispy fries and said it did not disappoint. That was a decent size burger, beef, bacon, pineapple, and jalapenos, and he mentioned cheese but wasn't sure of the kind; what more can one ask for?
Our server Lizzy was bubbly with a warm and friendly smile, attentive but not overdone!
The bathroom was a little smaller, a little dated, but clean! Unfortunately, the prices are a little on the higher side; there are a few things to factor in; aside from everything being a little higher in cost, this is Gig Harbor, and I read they are considered one of the more affluent cities in this area; They always have been. Also, the food was delicious, and our server was awesome! The only little faux pas was my hubby asked for Ranch for his fries, and he received tarter.
So, if you are in that neighborhood looking for some really good food, consider Lunchbox Lab Restaurant.
The restaurant's location is 4901 Point Fosdick Dr b800, Gig Harbor, Washington. Nearby businesses include Milkvue handcrafted donuts and coffee, Menchies frozen yogurt, Michaels, Kohls, and so much more!

Read moreThis place isn't half bad. The service was very friendly, but rarely came around to check on us. The food came out pretty quickly once we were able to place our orders. My lady ordered the Cod sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was large and the buns were very good, but the toppings were lacking, and the fish was way over cooked. It was pretty dry and flavorless. The side salad was basically romaine lettuce and tomato and nothing else. This leads me to believe their salads are just burger toppings chopped up into a bowl, kind of like how Subway serves their salads. I ordered the Bahn sandwich which had a patty consisting of pork and duck and some pickled and Asian toppings. The sandwich was pretty dang tasty. I really like the buns. It was just too small for my liking. I came here expecting a big messy burger and got something more gourmet and fancy. At the end, we decided my girl should have gotten the Bahn sandwich and I should have just gotten a big beef burger. I will do that next time. My main complaint was my side dish called mac fries. I assumed they would be fries with mac and cheese on them, but that was not the case. It was fries with a mac sauce on them. This would have been fine, but it wasn't really a cheese sauce. It was the base for a mac and cheese sauce called a bechamel. This is flour and dairy mixed to create a thick base for whatever you add like cheese for mac and cheese, so it just tasted like flour sauce on my fries. It was salvaged with the help of their flavored salts. As much as I like the flavored salts, I feel that since salt is basically the worse thing for you on the table besides sugar, adding salt to everything to get bacon or habanero or sage or garlic flavors is just sort of way too decadent. I also tried the sauce called devil's tears which is basically ketchup with some habanero and cayenne pepper in it. It has a quick tingle and burn but nothing like I would imagine Satan's tears would taste like. All in all, this place is pretty cool, the food isn't half bad, and worth another visit to try some other menu items. I would say if you're in the area and you want a burger, try this place out, but stay away from the mac fries and...
Read more$59.00 for 2 hard dried out burgers, a kid's mac-n-cheese, 1 soda and possibly the WORST service we have ever had at any restaurant anywhere. We saw the waitress a total of 3 times, once to ask in an obviously annoyed voice, "Are you ready to order YET?" I replied that it might be easier to decide if we had menus. She snarked that we should have gotten menus when we were seated - like somehow that was OUR fault. Things went downhill from there. She returned to literally fling the menus at us. Then 10 minutes later to ask, "OK, NOW are you ready to order?" The service should have been a clue, but based on reviews (that could only have been posted by owners/management/staff) we stuck around for the next insult. We ordered burgers "no pink" - we got briquettes. I ordered "lettuce wrap" - I got a quarter of a head of wilted dripping wet iceburg lettuce on top of my patty. We ordered 3 drinks - we got 1, and the wrong one. The mac-n-cheese was flavorless paste stuck to a blend of overcooked and still crunchy-raw pasta. The apples were brown and tasted like bleach. The last time we saw the waitress was to collect the check. That's right, someone else brought out our food, and a busboy delivered the bill. We were never asked if everything was okay, did we need anything, can we send the waitress over to be rude again? We paid the check because we had an appointment and didn't think that we should waste another hour hoping to flag down someone to talk to about it.
On a side note, I have a very low opinion of any restaurant that can't be bothered to keep the restrooms at least passably clean. I have been in truck stop bathrooms in the middle of nowhere that were cleaner - they also had soap &TP. I had to walk the 4-year-old across the parking lot to Michaels to use their facilities. Our first visit and LAST VISIT to this overpriced dump - memorable to...
