After our relatively quick excursion in Seattle, we decided to drive home instead of hopping on a ferry boat again. One of the towns on the way is called Gig Harbor. It is an adorable little town known for its beautiful waterfront and its maritime museum; a lot of history lies within Gig Harbor.
Although we did not make it down to the waterfront on this drive, we located a little restaurant off WA-16; (this area is considered uptown Gig Harbor), Someplace to eat other than McDonald's or Taco Time.
Sunset Grill is a casual, family-friendly restaurant that serves breakfast all day long; it also comes with a fully loaded lounge and bar. Their menu offers 50+ items, from individual sampler items to specialty dinners and a little bit of everything in between, burgers, breakfast, soups and salads, and so much more! Today I had the Veggie Burger; it was a tough choice because the club sandwich and taco salad was also calling my name; Veggie Burger won. My side was a dish of fresh fruit; although those onion rings were so tempting, I behaved myself and stoled one of my hubby's =D The burger was flavorful and tasted a little different than what I've had at other restaurants; I did find out it was a new veggie burger on the market that they were trying out; well, it was great! My burger had lettuce, onion, and tomato. My side of fruit was fresh and full of flavor. Overall I was happy with my meal.
My hubby had the Monte Cristo, which is something he has failed to find around our general area. He chose onion rings with his sandwich. His Monte Cristo wasn't a typical deep-fried sandwich that he had always gotten in the past; it was two pieces of french toast with ham, turkey, swiss, and cheddar cheese. So he rated it as a good but not great sandwich, and his onion rings were tasty and actually had onion in them, store-bought or hand-made; I don't know, I know they were good =D
So the highlight of this lunch was our server Virginia; shout out to Virginia. She was genuinely warm, had a great personality, and was funny. It was a pleasure chatting with her! She checked on us; we felt the proper amount of times, not too few, not too many, overall what I would consider an exceptional server!
Sunset Grill was a little dated, but what I saw looked clean. No odd smells, sticky tables, sticky menus, or dirty floors; the restroom was the same, a little on the dated side, but when I saw it, it appeared clean!
So, visit Sunset Grill if you find yourself in Gig Harbor and want a great casual meal.
Sunset Grill's location is in Harbor Plaza, 4926 Point Fosdick Dr, Gig Harbor, WA. Getting to the restaurant is a bit confusing. It sits in a complex among many other businesses; I can't even go into detail about all the little companies around that area. Rest assured, there was plenty of parking around!

Read moreThree strikes and Sunset Grill is off our list FOREVER. The silverware was FILTHY, disgusting green unidentifiable dried on ¿WTF is that? that looked like guacamole - but they don't serve quacamole. I asked for a replacement fork and the waiter acted like I had insulted him and then asked for his kidney. The next one he brought had mayo with some red and green bits stuck in it. The water glasses were greasy, and the plates weren't much better. I pointed out the dry food on the plate and he suggested that it was "smeared off another one of your meals." When I demonstrated that it was hard and I couldn't chip it off, he asked if I wanted "a different plate to put it on." We have been to SG before. We were unimpressed - it's mediocre food in the land that time forgot - think: Denny's in a town too small to host a name-brand restaurant, not burdened by nasty intrusions by health inspectors. The "food" is slapped together using "ingredients" originating from prefa boxes, jars and tubs (gravy, dressing, sauces) - and it shows. The food is not horribly 'bad' it just seems 'why bother?'
So why did we visit several times before giving up on SG forever? The 9-year-old LOVED going there, in spite of the food, in her estimation, being "meh." She loved "seeing all the sweet old people together" and she was a huge fan of their hot chocolate. After seeing the silverware, and the greasy glasses, she said, "Somebody is going to get sick here.” I'm convinced...
Read moreLet me set the scene of this place! Remember the old diners the ones we used to visit as kids and see the older crowd gathered commencing with each other about every subject on the planet. And then seeing the families gathered around enjoying each other's company and presence amongst the crowds. That's the kind of atmosphere you get when you come in, and for any diners looking to eat alone. This would be the perfect place. I've come several times and been apart of all these types of groups. Recently, I was an alone diners waiting after an appointment for my ride. When you walk in they greet you and ask how you're doing! The menu is quite extensive in choices from breakfast all day, lunch, and dinner! Each category has a lot to choose from with great portions. Even smaller portions for those who can't eat as much!! They're also great about allergies. Not once have I ever had them make a mistake with my allergy to tomatoes. When I forewarned them it's never not followed (thank you for that) the servers are diligent and check on you regularly and make sure your drinks are filled! Let's also bot forget the prices are so reasonable to the portion of each meal! Plus, the fruit is...
