AVOID CUBA CUBA: Owner has no integrity and premise is dangerous!
Two years ago today, I was at Cuba Cuba ordering some food to go. It was a little past sunset (the restaurant is poorly lite inside) and I had brand new rubber bottom shoes on with perfect treads. I’d worn the shoes all day, but I’m sure the treads were still in exceptional condition, much like driving with brand new tires.
The Soda and condiments stand is adjacent to the order desk and exit from the kitchen. An employee walked my “to go” order over to me at the soda\condiment table. The employee forgot to take my order number back and walked back to the kitchen. I took 1, at most 2, steps forward from the soda\condiment table toward the kitchen exit to give the employee back the order number disk. The floors is concrete and there were\are no rubber mats to protect customers from the grease\food trail coming out of the kitchen and any liquids spilled by customers and employees delivery food. The food is mostly fried. There is\was a dark food\grease stain from the exit of kitchen passing by the soda\condiment stand as this is the path in which employees deliver the food to customers. The floor was so slippery that even my new rubber bottomed shoes could not prevent me from falling. My left hip was dislocated so badly I needed full hip replacement surgery, my right foot was broken and several disks were herniated.
I spent a week in the hospital, then 3 weeks in a rehab facility, followed by months with home health care and now 2 years of Physical Therapy. You can only imagine how expensive this has been! I’m still almost constantly in pain, have difficult with stairs and my walking\standing is greatly restricted. Additionally, I had to close my business (at a loss) since I could not work it. My life is still negatively impacted by the poor conditions inside Cuba Cuba.
THE WORST PART is the male owner of Cuba Cuba called when I was in the hospital profusely apologizing and saying he would correct the problem. He also said he turned the accident into his insurance company and they would be calling me.
His insurance company called me and denied the claim saying I said it was my fault since I had new shoes and they had 3 witness. Yes, I did say I had “new” shoe, I said that stunned that even my new rubber bottomed shoes would not hold on the extremely slippery floor! I did NOT say it was my fault. In fact, said the exact opposite, but the facts were twisted to avoid paying for my medical bills and the impact of this on my life.
EXTREMELY irresponsible, on the part of Cuba Cuba. This could happen to you too! AVOID this restaurant. It has VERY BAD INTEGRITY. Also, you too could get hurt since they have still not even put rubber mats down on the path between the kitchen...
Read moreI had a horrible flight from SLC to Denver that was delayed twice. Had been in the airport and on a plane for 7 hours for a flight that should have been about 1 hour. Got to the Hilton Garden Inn hotel and tried to find a place within walking distance. Many were closed. We went to a couple restaurants that shared the parking area with the hotel. Tried their doors and they closed at 9:00. We saw Cuba Cuba and it was closed too. Cat, one of the Cuba Cuba employees, saw us standing outside trying to figure out where to go next to get a meal. She opened the locked door asked if we needed anything. We explained that our flight had been delayed and we were trying to find a place close to the hotel that was open still and asked if she knew of any. She opened the door, said “come in my kitchen is still open”. Such an amazing person, absolutely delicious food that Cat recommended. Cat also kept our drinks filled the entire time.
I didn’t look at any of the prices when I ordered as I was grateful they were open and would have paid whatever to get a good meal. When they brought the bill out I couldn’t believe how inexpensive it was. I was expecting to pay much more than I did.
All in all a great experience. I highly recommend this establishment for its amazingly tasty food and even more amazing service. The recommended tips were all way too low for the service. Just ignore those recommended numbers. Make sure you tip them...
Read moreThe very first time I went to this place it was awesome. The second time I go I decide to take my mother and my daughter. I dropped them off while I went to find parking, it took me about 10 minutes. When I walked in my mom looked upset. I spoke with her and she said that they sat down but no one came to her and offer her any water. I told her I don't think they do that here but she then expressed to me that when 4 white customers walked in, not heading towards the bar, they were quickly greeted and served water at their table. I told my mom to brush it off. We ordered and I wasn't half way finished with my meal when I decided to finish off the rest of my lemonade when a hair came through the straw. I immediately got up and ran to the bathroom and threw up all my food. I tried to be discrete about it because they have tables right in front of the bathroom. My mom went to the manager and told him what we found this hair in the straw. He told her that the hair could be mines. Welp that just went down hill from there because my mom went off as he tried to insinuate that we placed the hair in the cup. As you can see in my picture I'm black with curly hair, the strand was of straight, fine hair. He then gave her my money back for my meal only and we stormed out of there. I will never eat there again, not because of the hair but the treatment...
