Babe's Chicken Dinner House — Restaurant in Granbury

We were seated promptly, and our server was very attentive during our entire meal. The atmosphere was what I would have expected it to be. Mostly clean, only off things were the Lazy Susan on the table was greasy, and one of the chairs at our table was an office chair 😂 Our server first brought out biscuits, (super good), and a salad (okay, but was overly drenched in some kind of house dressing). Ordering was super confusing, no menu, no mention of prices (our fault for not asking). My husband and I decided to go with the smoked chicken, as we wanted something a bit healthier (We came here with a few others, and they had chosen the place ). The food came and it was awful! The smoked chicken was very, very greasy, and quite small pieces (one tiny breast, tiny thigh, and tiny drum; way smaller than a normal size you’d expect). The sides were so bad that we (my husband and I), couldn’t eat them: instant mashed potatoes, and I’m pretty sure the creamed corn and green beans came straight out of the can. If we weren’t with a group we would have sent the entire meal back (sides were served family style), and went somewhere else. We quietly sat and tried to eat the smoked chicken. The check came and I felt for what we got it was outrageous! $18.99 for the tiny three pieces of greasy “smoked” chicken, and $10.99 for the instant potatoes and canned veggies that we didn’t touch. Also this is the cost for one person (so $32 per person); we chose to share a meal, thank goodness. I did quietly speak to the manger; and he took off the price of the sides. I give them 2 stars because the food was okay but, there are no menus on the table for a reason. The waitress tells you what meat you can select from and says sides are all you can eat however, never mentions that it’s $18.00 a person. This wouldn’t be that bad of a deal if you could actually take your leftovers with you! They will throw your left over meat in a plastic sack and yes, we were given one plastic sack to dump it all in together. We asked if we could take our sides and the waitress told us, we don’t have containers, about that time another employee walks by with a huge order all in styrofoam containers. We did not order refill on our sides and only had one serving out of our sides. We paid for those but, weren’t allowed to take them? They were taken back to the kitchen where we did not witness them being thrown away! I suddenly felt sick, like do they reserve those and since it was our first order of sides served why didn’t they let us take them? The manager did not have a good answer. I can see if someone order refills on sides and deciding to take them, they could have said our containers are an extra charge. We won’t be going back, kinda scary they don’t tell you up front you can’t take your leftovers but we don’t see them...

We have Always enjoyed the food at the Burleson and Granbury locations. However, we had an experience today which reminds us of their policy that is not exactly good customer service. As you know when you leave Babes after paying $35 for 2 meals they will gladly send you away with a flimsy plastic bag for your leftovers. We had a pc of chicken fried steak and some sides to take home. We assumed they had a few small containers to give us. Oh no, it was a $.50 charge for a take home box. I understand they don’t want guests carrying home large portions but how about treating customers the way most restaurants would do. On top of that my chicken breast had very little meat which is unusual for Babes. So I reported it to the waitress to ask for the manager. The manager never came to our table. She said he would discuss it with kitchen personnel. Overall we enjoy Babes food and service except I do feel we are sometimes rushed. I kinda feel like it’s Happy happy Birthday, Hurry up and leave lol sort of thing! But this leftover policy always bugs me. Why be so stringent with customers when we are paying a top price for a basic chicken dinner. Come on Babes everyone loves your food.
