Sauced Pizza & Smashburgers: A Bite of Texas with a Side of Hurry
Sauced Pizza & Smashburgers in Grapevine, Texas, promises a taste of Texas in both its pizzas (boasting a unique "Texas-style crust") and its juicy smashburgers. However, my recent visit offered a mixed bag – delicious food overshadowed by a rushed atmosphere and some service hiccups.
Walking into Sauced, the first thing you notice is its size. It's a cozy space, with limited seating and a clear view of the bustling kitchen. This intimate setting could be charming, but on the Saturday afternoon I visited, it translated into a feeling of being rushed. There was only one server handling all the tables, and while he was friendly, it was evident he was stretched thin.
Despite the initial hustle, my wife and I decided to persevere, drawn in by the mouthwatering descriptions on the menu. We both opted for the Jalapeno Smashburger, which came with the option of fries, chips, or a side salad. Here's where the first service hiccup occurred. The menu listed chips as included with the meal, with fries and salad incurring an additional charge. We specifically requested chips, but when our plates arrived, both burgers were accompanied by fries – and we were charged for them.
Now, the fries were fantastic. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and generously seasoned, they were a delightful surprise. But the billing error, however minor, added to the sense of hurriedness that seemed to permeate the restaurant.
Thankfully, the main attraction, the Jalapeno Smashburger, delivered on its promise. The burger itself was a juicy masterpiece. Two perfectly smashed Texas-raised beef patties were cooked to a delightful medium-rare, their inherent meatiness enhanced by the char from the griddle. The jalapenos added a welcome kick without overwhelming the other flavors.
Overall, the burger itself was a homerun. Unfortunately, the positive experience was dampened by another factor: overhearing the server inform patrons arriving after us that they were out of hamburgers. This, coupled with the initial rush and the service mix-up, painted a picture of a restaurant struggling to keep up with demand.
In conclusion, Sauced Pizza & Smashburgers offers a delicious twist on the classic smashburger. The combination of juicy patties, flavorful toppings, and perfectly seasoned fries is definitely worth a try. However, be prepared for a potentially crowded and rushed experience, especially during peak hours. If you're looking for a leisurely dining experience, this might not be it. But if you're craving a great burger and don't mind a bit of a wait, Sauced is worth a visit – just be prepared to manage your expectations for service speed and potentially adjust your order based on...

We chose this place as we would be in the grapevine area along with some friends, (another couple, total of us was 4), of ours so we decided on this spot as it was close to where we would be heading next. We walked in and we noticed it was immediately busy, a great sign and we had absolutely no problem waiting. A older couple walked in behind us, and the Asian female behind the to go counter whom was checking everyone in, was legitimately on her phone texting, completely ignoring other people who walked in. She completely missed the couple that was searching around confused on what to do and where to go. Soon enough I had to say to them myself,”You check in with this lady here.” The girl working there never even looked up, I KID YOU NOT, until the lady walked up to the girl texting and she STILL continued to text and she smiled kind of shyly like she had just gotten caught doing something she shouldn’t have. I was a bit stunned but I decided to let it go, we were hungry and got sat pretty fast after.
When we got sat, our waitress, colored hair and an eye brow ring, never got her name because she never offered it, asked for our drinks within about 5 minutes. Again no issue, it was busy. However, things started going downhill extremely fast.
We didn’t see our waitress for about 20 minutes after her taking our drink order. Then she suddenly popped up, dropped our drinks off and then disappeared again for another 20 minutes before coming back and taking our order. She was extremely unfriendly and even walked away when we were done ordering, not even asking if we needed any refills, which all of us did. She didn’t say a word. Just walked off. She never checked in on us, she never asked us how our food was. She never offered any apologies for being extremely rude and disappearing multiple throughout the lunch. It was so incredibly frustrating.
Remember that couple that came in after us? They ate their food and had already left before we had even gotten our pizza order taken, that’s how long it took to put our order in. Our server looked to only have three tables, one of which already had their food, us, and another table that was waiting on someone else to join them and she hadn’t even greeted them. They came in halfway through our meal, and they didn’t even have drinks by the time we left.
The worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant and I am so disappointed that I’m even having to write such a poor review. We will not be back and we hope management understand the importance of teaching their employees to treat their paying customers like humans who are just wanting to enjoy the food their establishment...
Read moreWe heard about this place through an Instagram influencer so we decided to give it a try. Location was easy to find and their logo is huge on the building so very easy to see. We walked in and very awkward entrance since the TO GO window is apparently there as well, so we were met with people needing to stand in line for togos.
We were enthusiastically greeted by a young man in the dining room I didn’t get his name but he a very good server.
We started with garlic bread. It was cooked perfectly. Nice crisp and flaky, cheese had a great pull to it. I was not a fan of the marinara. Tasted like watered down ketchup.
We ordered the jalapeño jack burger and the 16 inch half carnivore half margarita.
I’m not a fan of onions but the wife so we asked for them to be on the side but they sent them out raw, would have loved them to be grilled. Burger had good flavor and the sauce wasn’t over powering. I was asked if I wanted chips or fries, I am not a fan of chips being paired with a burger. Chips go with sandwiches and I found it disheartening to see they asked me which I wanted but then charged me $3 for them, which after reading the fine print, it is stated on the menu, but that means I paid $12 for the burger, which I feel is a little on the high side and the fries weren’t all that great.
The pizza came out hot and I love it when places use a riser for the pan. Unfortunately that’s about all I have good to say. The wife grabbed a slice of the margarita and I grabbed a slice of the carnivore. The slices were so greasy and the bottom of the pizza was soggy. So we fold it up and take a bite. It just wasn’t good. Everything was so bland and all I tasted was grease, no sauce flavor, no crust flavor, nothing. Wife said hers was bland as well, just no flavor at all.
A few other notable mentions. Everything was disposable. The cheapest of cheap paper plates, I would have loved to see trays with liners at least to eat my pizza on. Cheap plasticware, if you’re going to do that, I would recommend at least rolling them. Ranch cup, sauce cup, everything, all disposable. These are all non ROI items, I would spend a little money on some stainless cups and save money on all these different size disposables.
We driver over an hour to get here but likely wouldn’t make...
