Great food, great prices, cool atmosphere. Love it! Historic piece of Green Bay.. glad it's still here. **UPDATE - 9/2021: What are you doing?!? When you buy a turnkey business that is well known and loved for specific things, changing those specific things is probably the very worst decision you can make. Haystack Onions.. gone. Tater Tots.. gone. Several original popular menu items.. gone. But most importantly... The Al's Burger was known for its unique flavor from the blend of meats used, which we can't get anywhere else, and complimented by the signature pile of thinly sliced onions atop the burger. The burger I got was so overcooked that it was crunchy on one side and the flavor of the meat was undetectable. As if that weren't bad enough, I saw a giant sliver of onion hanging out of the side and when I lifted the lid to tuck it back in there, I discovered seven or eight thick pieces of onion... no thin slices. 🤬 Remember that part up there, in my original review, where I said "glad it's still here"? Well.. it's really not. That's not Al's anymore. I feel deceived because you leave the name up there, knowing it's not anywhere near the same. It's like you want to trick people into getting their business one last time. It's not Al's anymore. I didn't dump it to one star because the server was friendly and apologetic for the disappointment. It was also nice to sit in your restaurant and not feel like a sardine in a can for once - there were empty seats all the way down the bar top, and just a few people in the booths, as opposed to all the other times when the booths were full, the countertop was elbow to elbow from one end to the other, and there were half a dozen people hovering over my shoulder waiting for a table or their carryout order. I wonder where they're eating now? The kitchen guy sitting on a bucket and playing with his phone while burgers were burning on his dirty grill didn't seem to care much. Good workers are hard to find.. and bad workers leave a bad taste in your customers mouth that's hard to get rid of. Congratulations! You definitely succeeded in tricking me and getting my business one last time. Definitely. REPLY: You should probably read it again. "Assuming" clearly isn't anything you should still be doing. If it were working out for you, your place wouldn't be empty of customers, struggling to keep even bad employees, and frequently closed during your posted business hours. The menu changes, I'm sure, aren't your only problems.. but that deceptive sign and your dismissive approach to customer feedback certainly won't win you more chances. Seriously, read it again.. maybe twice or three times would be better to exercise some comprehension skills. No response is necessary - I've clearly stated I won't be back, and it should be obvious that I won't be recommending...
Read moreI had such a bad experience tonight that I'm changing a 2 year old review because I cannot recommend anyone ever eat at Al's. Tonight I watched someone have an allergic reaction and have to leave to administer their epi-pen because he ordered his burger without mushrooms and they cooked it in the mushroom juice instead. They told his friends they were going to not charge him for his food, but epi-pens still cost $200 each. That's a really expensive burger.
Someone else came in and sat down at 6:50pm and he was told at 6:55 that they were closed and wouldn't take his order. They actually close at 7pm.
I had ordered on Eat Street at 6:05 pm, and got an email at 6:20 that they cancelled the order. I called and the phone went to voicemail. I saw from Google that they were still open until 7, so I went to the store in person because I really wanted a burger. I showed up, explained the situation, and tried to give my order to the waitstaff, but I had to repeat myself literally 5 times because she could not get it right, and when the food finally came the order was still wrong. Now I understand why the first guy got screwed. The waitstaff is completely incompetent. The "general manager" Cole (looked like he was still in his 20s) brought my order when it was finally done and asked what my problem is. I told him what happened with my order and he said that it came in too late and they prioritize customers in the store. Okay, sure, but it took 15 minutes to get notified of the cancellation. Then I mentioned the guy with the severe allergic reaction and he said that was none of my business and I shouldn't worry about that. I could tell he was angry and I'm sure he could tell I was not impressed either. I didn't bother telling him about the guy who got turned away before they closed, he wasn't interested in anything besides going home.
Bottom line, I'm never eating Al's again, and you shouldn't either, especially if you value...
Read moreLook, I'm nobody's food connoisseur and I certainly do not stand on being "proper" EVER so don't mistake me for a "Trip Advisor" reviewer or one of the folks writing reviews here who feel the need to 3-star a place because of some brain-dead need to appear worldly.
First time to Al's. I've heard of it and happened to be in Green Bay for a show at the Meyer with my son. Not sure which burger I ordered, server recommended the curds because I couldn't decide whether to stick with fries or go with the curds; son had one of their dogs with fries (which I was FORCED to help him eat - my Mom didn't approve of wasting food, you know).
You know ... the food was top notch. Particularly when both the burger and dog were lovingly placed into what could be the most soft and flavorful bun I've had. My god, this stuff nearly brought tears to my eyes. Great food. (Note: if you're intimidated by your cardiologist - who I'm sure is a little kill-joy dork - you'll probably want to pick up your carrot sticks and celery elsewhere. :o)
Al's kinda stuck with me for the remainder of the evening in the form of that aroma following me out the door and into the Meyer - and that's not a complaint. I wish I had ordered one of the shakes though. That'll be a excuse to head north sooner than later. ...and ... the music playing... Where else can you get a fantastic burger and curds and wolf it all down to a little Ricky Nelson? I'm not a big ambiance guy obviously but I don't have a single complaint here.
OK, I'm done. Get on with...
