Pros: Pleasant venue, well presented by Green Bay standards. Food quality was mostly good. Cons: Painfully slow kitchen. Spotty service. Management does not seem to care.
After a hiatus of several years we decided to try Koko again at their new location. The new location had an interesting ambiance and a very cool tree in the center of the restaurant; however, alas those were the high points. We were asked to wait for seating, and went to the bar area where we sat in comfortable loveseats beside a gas fireplace...it seemed a good start despite the stickly table between the love seats. Surprise! There was no bar service, nor did the hostess that directed us there tell us that. You had to go to the bar yourself and get your own drinks list and then order at the bar.
When we were seated, the table we were seated at did not fit well with the corner booth seating, leaving one of the three of us in an awkward seating position. We opened with miso soup. The miso soups were small (which we could forgive) but what was unforgivable was that they tasted of little but salt. The edamame that came next was a good-sized portion with large solid pods, but the pods were just a touch past their peak and a bit hard. Still fairly good, however. We followed the edamame with the sweet potato fries, which were satisfactory, and then things came to a halt. We had to wait an interminable amount of time until our orders of maki rolls arrived. Note: we did not order any cooked food for the main course just cold maki rolls, and it still took half an hour after the appetizers for our food to come to table and this despite the fact that the restaurant was rapidly emptying out after 8 PM.
Our waitress was friendly, but our drink glasses sat empty after our appetizers were finished. When our rolls arrived, their flavor was good, but the rolls were very small and unevenly cut. The avocado in the California roll was brown. By the time we finished our rolls, we were frustrated. We would have liked to order more rolls, but we did not want to think about how long they would take. Our waitress informed us it would take a minimum of 20 minutes if we wanted more sushi. At that point, we asked for the bill and went elsewhere for after dinner drinks and desert.
Overall, the service was spotty and the restaurant had the air of being unloved by management. The kitchen was inexcusably slow for a restaurant that was nearly empty bt 8:30 at night. Despite the well presented venue, there are better choices for actually eating sushi, even in Green Bay.
Sadly, despite the neat venue and the sushi tasting good, we will not be returning to Koko. Painfully slow kitchen service and miniature maki rolls did not endear. Having a partner in the restaurant at the very next table drinking wine and completely oblivious to our empty glasses and the slow service was embarrassing. Not once in the whole time we were at our table did the partner involved ever look at how the restaurant was faring despite various staff interrupting...
Read moreHad a delicious meal here.
We came right when they opened and we’re seated immediately. We were given drinks and asked if we wanted appetizers. Unfortunately they were out of the Calamari, but that was okay as we came for the specialty sushi.
Got three of the specialty sushi: Godzilla, Bomb, and Crab Cake. They’re delicious cooked sushi. Definitely recommend.
If you want a raw sushi I recommend the Specialty: Spider. We didn’t have that this time, but we had it for past visits and it was delicious.
I judged my boyfriend highly for this, he ordered a burger. He liked sushi… I still don’t get why he did this. But, if you don’t like sushi (or you’re really just craving a burger) you’re in luck! They have very good burgers here and they cook it exactly how you want it. His burger was cooked to medium as requested. The fries were very good. Got the option between regular or sweet potato fries and we took the regular ones.
The drinks were great too! Not watered down and the proportions were wonderful. The server did a good job with replacing them when they ran out. Got both a lemonade and a kitty cocktail.
Last visit was on September 30th around 4:30pm. The server we had was super kind and attentive. We also noticed that the other servers around us were quite friendly. It was a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home.
DATE: Came here as a date and it was wonderful. They have tables for 2 people and then also for bigger groups.
Family Group: I came here once with a group of 6 and the table space was perfect. We got our food all at the same time and it was all correct.
LARGE GATHERING: I’ve also come here with one of the rooms rented out for a group of 20+ and that experience was outstanding. Probably the best large group experience I have ever had in a restaurant.
Pricing: I would say pretty good. About $15 for specialty sushi. For all the things I got the bill was about $63. I kind of expected it to be more. For two people and such amazing food, it was worth every penny.

Read moreSecond time we come from Appleton, the first time we were attended by a rude/clown waiter, (the manager Paul knows perfectly who he is) who told us laughing in our faces that the kitchen closed in 5 minutes and when I started to complain about the treatment received he disappeared. Today we came for the second time, we entered at 9:15 p.m. ... and the entrance door was locked from the inside, we asked why and they told us (2 girls) that the kitchen closed soon and they did not let more customers enter ... that was at 9:15 p.m., the restaurant closes at 10pm !!! We asked to speak with the manager Paul, he confirmed that he did not know that the door was locked, he told us to sit down but I am no longer comfortable being there, we left, I returned again asking for the owner to be able to communicate this situation, the manager gives me an email and tells me that I can write a review here ... however I give him my phone number so that the owner can contact me ... when I leave the restaurant at the entrance I meet the waiter who laughed so much, turning to laugh, I ask him why he laughs again and he tells me that it is our problem if we come late with this attitude in an aggressive and threatening way, he threatens me that we will go outside and talk ... I tell him in Spanish not to threaten me and he continues defiantly with fight intention until the manager and other staff come grab him and put him inside again… .but what kind of people do you have working here? What kind of worker threatens a customer on this way? You should check what kind of staff you have working at this restaurant because this is unacceptable!! The only one who was kind and cared about the situation was Paul the manager, although I have my doubts that he knew perfectly what the other staff were doing locking the door, closing so early not allowing more clients in, so workers could go home soon then…GOOD STRATEGY!. I hope that the owner of this establishment will contact me, I’m leaving tonight without dinner but this is not going to...
