Dined here about 3:25pm on a Friday afternoon with a mentee. While walking up, I saw 4-5 employees outside smoking and talking in the back of the building. Surprisingly, it wasnāt busy at all. My last visit had to have been 2+ years ago, and pre-COVID. I remember there use to always be a wait, especially on the weekends! It was practically empty!
We were greeted and seated promptly. The first thing I noticed was how heavy chairs the chairs are and they are not the most comfortable. Our waitress came quickly and took our drink order promptly. Waitress didnāt introduce herself at all, which seems to be an unfortunate common occurrence at many restaurants lately.
Mentee and I were undeceive. Mentee is a freshman at A&T, and it was his first time here. We ordered at 3:42pm. I got the light brown leghorns with southern grits as a side. My mentee got the Carolina cockerel but got a sweet potato waffle and a strawberry smear with cheese grits as a side. The food arrived at 3:49pm, which was SUPER QUICK! Granted, it wasnāt busy, so that could explain. The food was hot and fresh. I wish the chicken was a more crispy that it was. It was a soft crispy and I like my fried chicken to have a crunch to it. I like the caramel drizzle and chocolate smear that came with my waffle. The smear is essentially flavored butter and the drizzle is meant to act like the syrup. They donāt have āregularā syrup in the bottle. They have packets of smuckers syrup on the table if you want it. For me, the grits was iffy. There was an ingredient in it that I just couldnāt place it that caused me to dislike it some. It wasnāt horrible but itās definitely not your average grits. The waitress said it just contains butter, salt, pepper, and milk⦠but idk lol. The service couldāve been better as in more attentive, but overall, not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband ordered takeout from the Cary, NC location because he had a business meeting in the surrounding area. We dine-in often because we have always been a fan of their food. We've been customers for almost ten years and have eaten at all of their establishments in the RTP/Greensboro area.
My husband arrived home and we just KNEW we were about to enjoy some good food. To our surprise we were met with burnt waffles and burnt/overcooked chicken.
My husband called the restaurant and spoke with Ashley, one of the daytime shift managers. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. She kept talking over him and then had the audacity to hand the phone to someone else while he was still talking.
She gets back on the phone and says "so are you coming back so we can remake it or not sir?". Mind you, my husband had already explained that we live 30 minutes away in another city. Returning to the restaurant was not an option. She said that was the only option. My husband asked for a refund and she said she couldn't do that, he would have to speak to the owner. My husband asked for the owner's info and all she could provide was an email address.
Needless to say we will never step foot in another Dame's restaurant because some of their employees do not have a clue on what customer service SHOULD look like. I'm very saddened by the way the manager handled this situation. All establishments should have a way to refund customers. My guess is she just didn't want to refund him. We've spent a lot of money with this restaurant over the years. We even had them cater our rehearsal dinner because we love the food that much. I am so disappointed in the management staff at the Cary, NC location.
Here are pics of the food from today's takeout order. We are still waiting for the owner, Andre, to respond to my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really hate to take away a whole star because I think the 4.5 cumulative rating is warranted but it's just not a 5 (more on that later). I really like this place though.
This place is located in really nice area in Greensboro right outside of downtown and has a relaxed atmosphere. I loved the menu layout because your eyes were automatically drawn to the specialties and the numerous chicken and waffle options. There were a lot. I've personally not seen that many pairings of chicken and waffles on a menu. They even have vegan, sweet potato & gingerbread options. Kudos for creativity.
It was really hard to decide but I went with the "hold the waffles" because I was more interested in trying the sides than the waffles. It comes with your option of one or two sides and I went with the collard greens (spicy) and the mac and cheese. I went with wings for my chicken. It came with three cut I was hoping for four. Now more about the 4 rating. The chicken...delicious. Mac and cheese...AMAZING. Collard greens...just ok. This was a total bummer because I love spicy greens but outside of spice it didnt really have a lot of flavor.
I will certainly be back because I want to try the waffles and because I must have that chicken and macand cheese again but if I got a second side it'd have to be something else.
Highlights: You can pick your own chicken (wings, drumsticks or cutlets) Countless chicken and waffle options Pick your own waffle schmear (hazelnut, maple-pecan, etc). Some eclectic choices
Room for improvement: Allow mixing and matching of...
