Ok usually I love this place. The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes are amazing! The new Banana Foster French Toast is good(dont know why they don’t cook the banana though) the hash was ok even with the burnt pieces I had on my last trip. Today I wanted to try the Biscuits and Gravy. Little did I know I wouldn’t be tasting it today. Mistake #1 not making a reservation. The last two times I have gone wait has said 5 to 10 minutes I have made the reservation and not need it. So today I was like I’m not going to make one. I get there at 10:35 ish. Hostess tells person in front of me 10-20 I get 20-25. Okay the food is pretty good l will wait. Bout 30 minutes and at least 7 customers leaving with a check later the people that were in line in front of me get seated. They were a table of 3 I am a table of one. At the 45 minute mark I’m starting to get agitated. No one is getting seated and the people behind me keep getting a wait time as long as I’ve been sitting by the door mind you. Of the ladies and a party of one goes (she is behind me in line) gets a table outside wait what? She complains that me and another couple have been waiting longer than her. He says to come on and he will sit us. I was hangry at this point so I said no and went and got food elsewhere. I got my food sat and ate at Viva chicken and the people outside still had at least gotten a server because they had drinks. Its been over an hour and this point I’m wondering what the heck happened. I go ask the person I originally gave my name to and she goes the system went down. I was like its been over an hour and i was sitting by the door. I left glad I went elsewhere. Maybe one day I’ll try the biscuits and gravy maybe not. And supposedly they had a fire and didn’t want to overwhelm the kitchen. (Found that out second hand). Next time just let me know whats going on. Dont have me waiting in the hot sun for nothing. Edit 1:Why did I just receive a text message saying you will text me when my table is ready now? (12:40)I’ve been on that waitlist since 10:35 this morning. Edit 2: Got a text saying my table is ready at 1:27 pm. So that 20 minute wait ended up being over...
Read moreCame hungry and left hungrier. My family had a rare Friday when everyone was available to meet for breakfast. We hadn’t been together in a while, so we decided to meet in Greensboro and eat together. There were 9 of us, so we placed our order. The food was delivered one or two persons at a time by different servers. Seven of them finally received their food, so we notified the other server that two orders were missing. She said she would check with our server and would return shortly. We waited and waited and finally our server came back to our table. She ask us what we ordered and we told her, so she looked through her orders and we could see the realization on her face that she had not submitted our orders to the kitchen staff!! She said she would return promptly with our orders. So we waited and waited and by that time our family was halfway through with their food. I finally went inside to look for our server but could not find her, so I told another server that we would like to cancel our order. I told her the servers name and she said she would send her to our table. Again, we waited and waited and she never showed up. I went back inside and spoke to the same server and she asked me “she never showed up?” I told her no, and she said she would get her immediately. A little later, our server and the manager came to our table. We ended up canceling our order because our family had finished eating by that time and my cousin had to go to work. Our server came back to the table with the receipts and tried to give the receipt to myself and my cousin even though we never received our food!!! The server apologized and asked if we needed anything else or some drinks to take with us. I was saving my drink to eat with my meal, so I ask for a to go cup to take my drink with me. We waited and waited and she never returned. We ended up going to the cash register and finally she came over with my cup of ice however my drink had been left at the table, because I did not have a to go cup. I was very disappointed and will not be coming back to this place ever. It was a waste of time and money—-gas (especially with the...
Read moreWhen this chain opened in the ever-expanding Wendover Commons plaza at the beginning of the year, it managed to carve out a unique identity - fast casual breakfast/brunch - despite the abundance of eateries in the immediate vicinity. This lack of direct competition is both a blessing and a curse: First Watch is welcome for what it brings to the table and yet another restaurant of this type nearby would likely present a more attractive alternative.
While First Watch does offer sandwiches and salads for the lunch crowd, its menu skews toward early-day offerings. You can find a classic platter, gigantic pancake, omelet, or hash, or you can mix it up with a frittata, a fruit-laden Floridian French toast, or a quinoa power bowl. There are also health-conscious options and a juice bar yet strangely no breakfast burrito.
For my first time out, I used the restaurant's Web site to order a Power Breakfast Quinoa Bowl (quinoa, Italian sausage, Crimini mushrooms, tomatoes, kale, Parmesan, and eggs) and a Kale Tonic (Kale, fuji apple, cucumber, and lemon) for pick-up. The food was ready within a few minutes of arrival, set on a table marked for take-out orders by the front entrance. By the looks of things, First Watch seemed to be going for a rustic chic vibe. It also seemed like the kind of place that crowds easily, which made me thankful that I wasn't dining in.
The food proved to be a mixed bag. The sausage was nice and zesty, and it paired well with the tomatoes and mushrooms. The "basted" eggs, on the other hand, were rubbery and unpleasant, making this dish an unlikely re-order. At least the juice, equal parts tangy and refreshing, was an unqualified hit.
At $15 after taxes, this was not a cheap breakfast. It was certainly filling, but given the pricing relative to Scrambled or a good local brunch spot (think M'Couls), it still felt like a bit of a reach.
All told, First Watch's better-than-fast-food breakfast offerings merit a look, but you may find yourself wanting...
