My wife, her best friend, and I went here this past Saturday for dinner around 6:30 PM.
We were lucky to snag a parking spot that has just become available, because this location is still very busy being the only one open so far in the area.
Once we ordered our food, the trouble began...
After about 20 minutes, my wife still had not received the milkshake she ordered (or any of our food, which was only a burger, patty melt, and a fry), so she had to go ask for it. They upgraded her to a medium from a small since they forgot.
My wife's friend finally received her food (plain burger w/cheese only & fries) after about 40 minutes (she placed her order after us too). (Other customers that ordered after us were received there orders too.) The fries were luke-warm and tasted stale (they should be very fresh as busy as they were and going through them quickly). Our friend checked her burger and found that it had mustard on it even though she requested it plain. So she went up to the counter and let them know it was wrong. She received a replacement burger after a few minutes, and returned to her seat. She took a bite and then immediately realized it once again, STILL had mustard on it. This time my wife took it to the counter herself to report the issue. She received another replacement burger after another few minutes. This one was correct, however, she's not out of the woods yet! She began eating the burger, but the pulled a medium length hair out of her mouth, and we do not believe it was her own hair at all. We flagged down a manager and asked if the cook wear hair nets, to which he replied "yes". We reported the hair found in the burger and his response was, "So what do you want, a refund?" Our friend confirmed she would like it refunded, which he did.
Meanwhile, my wife and I still haven't received our food yet!
After about 50 minutes, my wife goes up to ask about our food, to the cashier's shock that we haven't received it yet. She also was chatting with the cashier about her friend's trouble and the cashier said the 'hair in the burger was not surprising, because they do not wear hair nets back there's. Meaning, the manager lied to us about wearing them! Finally, 58 minutes after we had placed our order, my wife received our food at the counter! They had given us an extra fry and two free pie deserts as compensation, lol.
Our fries were a little better than our friend's were at least. I was excited to try a Whataburger burger for the first time! Luckily, our burgers were correct (and no hairs), but we honestly felt that they were mediocre. They tasted just like a fast food burger from somewhere like Burger King, Dairy Queen, or maybe Sonic. It was nothing special and we were not impressed at all.
We will not be returning to this location, but might give one of the other upcoming locations another chance...
Read moreAs a person who works late nights a fair bit, I was excited when Whataburger first opened and a new late-night dinner option would be available. I did try it a few times during the opening rush, whenever the lines weren't too bad, and had a good experience for the most part. The drive-thru handled the seemingly-endless waves of customers with efficiency, and even though the wait was a bit long, it made sense for the amount of people they were serving.
Over a month later, after the rush of people has died down and there is more of a steady flow of customers, it seems that this location has lost whatever magic they had when it came to handling the drive-thru with speed and efficiency. With significantly fewer customers, one would expect quicker speeds, but the speeds have only gotten worse during non-peak hours.
I went to the drive-thru around 11:15pm, nobody was in line in lane 1, and one car was ordering in lane 2, so I pulled up to the lane 1 speaker. I proceeded to sit there at the speaker for 20 minutes as four other cars pulled through speaker 2 to order and be served. Other employees were moving drinks and food to cars near the window, and they saw me sitting there on more than one occasion. But still I waited in silence.
As cars piled up behind me, and BOTH drive-thru lanes ahead of me were empty since all others had been served, I got out of my car and walked up to the window, where one employee was standing outside talking to the other in the window. I asked if they were still taking orders in lane 1 as I had been sitting there for 20 minutes, to which they said yes. I got back to my car and they finally took my order.
No apology. No explanation. No ounce of empathy or sympathy from the staff whatsoever. So I pay for my food and leave.
Service and efficiency aside, the food itself here is fine. The burgers are good, fries are rather tasteless and eating them with dipping sauces feels almost mandatory, and I have not tried the breakfast.
In short, the staff here has lost whatever magic spark they had during the time of their opening that allowed them to run a drive-thru quickly, and now especially in the off-hours it feels like the employees do not care and/or cannot keep up with even basic fast food traffic.
If you want your "fast food" fast, it's best to go to Cook Out, or even McDonald's and Wendy's. The food here is pretty good, but isn't worth the wait times and uncaring staff during...

Well, the Honeymoon is definitely over for Whataburger in Greensboro!!! After 2 weeks of grand opening lines, the lines are shorter, the staff has forgotten how to hustle, the orders are wrong, and it actually took longer to get our wrong order than our two visits in the previous weeks!!! The explanation we got was the staff trainers are gone and what you see is what will be going forward with slower service! Lots of chatting, moseying along - including the supervisor outside!!
We ordered a Sweet & Spicy Bacon Burger, junior size; a Double Whataburger, junior size with no pickles and extra onion; 1 small fry, and 2 apple pies. After taking forever our order was finally strolled to the car and a little voice told me to check it. Hmmmm, no Double Whatburger, junior size and the Sweet & Spicy burger was regular size. So I called someone to amble back over and mentioned the Double was missing. The girl strolled to the window and after a few minutes she returned to say, "oh, we're out of junior size patties so we made the Sweet & Spicy full size to make up for it". Huh? Where's the Double whatever size Whataburger?? "I don't know." Get the manager. Manager slow walked over and gave the same explanation and appeared shocked when I asked where the Double Whataburger was. He told us we could wait a while longer while they fixed the burger and he would comp it for our trouble. I showed him the receipt that we'd already paid and didn't need anything comped and he simply said "oh". We left.
To add insult to injury, the fries were ice cold. We won't return for the foreseeable future. Wow!!! Now I understand what all the hype was about. Area burger joints must be aware there's a new sheriff in town!! The Whataburgers we had twice this week were hot, juicy, fresh with very fresh toppings! The burgers weren't greasy or skimpy either!! We've tried the Whataburger double, Sweet and Spicy bacon burger, fries, onion rings, and malts this week and everything was delicious and perfectly prepared.
Although we don't live in Greensboro, we will be visiting this restaurant at least once a week on average for a burger fix! Now, we've got to try the...
