Post Covid Update:
We’ve been to the bistro a couple of times before covid hit. We always went as a big group with friends and the staff is always friendly and the food is always very good. We decided to go again for brunch post covid when the outdoor dining opened. We went around 11:35 and were put on the wait list. We were seated around 11:45 and were have our coffee by noon. Everything was very clean with staff sanitizing other tables around us once the guests have left.
The Greek frappe is basically the Dalgona coffee that’s going viral right now. We got it with the chocolate milk. It was very very good at the beginning but as the ice melted it and you got to the bottom it got very bitter. Would recommend drinking it right away if straight coffee isn’t your thing.
I usually go for the wild mushroom omelet with the truffle oil and manchego cheese. I’ve tried truffle dishes in many restaurants and this is easily one of my favorites. It comes with toast and home fries. It’s very very filling and has just the right amount of mushrooms to egg to truffle ratio. This time I decided to go for the lamb burger which comes with truffle parmesan fries. The truffle fries were the best I’ve ever had. The thickness of the actual fry was perfect where it was crispy on the outside but still had some potato on the inside. If french fries and wedge fries had a baby, this would be it. And I don’t say this lightly, this, is in fact, the perfect fry. Moving on, it had the perfect amount of parmesan and truffle. It also comes with a garlic aioli that’s very good. I would go back just for those fries and I might because you can just get it as an appetizer anyway.
I’ve come to learn that Lamb is an aquired taste. I don’t know if I’m a big fan of ground lamb but it was an okay burger for me. It wasn’t dry and it had flavor in it. My comments for the actual burger is the assembly of it which ive seen other reviewers comment on. The onion jam was good but there was so much of it that it overpowered the lamb, arugula and gorgonzola cheese. The next time I would ask for less jam and more arugula just to freshen it up a little and make it so nothing is overpowering the rest. The burger also comes with pickles and very finely chopped coleslaw. The coleslaw was very good. I know alot of people tend to leave it out but this was actually pretty good. I usually like chunkier coleslaw but I had no comment on it really.
From the breakfast menu, we got the strawberry shortcake waffle. It comes topped with nutella, strawberry and whipped cream. Overall, it was very good. Our only note for next time would be to maybe ask for less nutella since it can be overwhelming, making it so you can’t really taste the waffle.
But again, the actual food is very good and the service is pretty great for such a busy spot. Will definitely be returning and trying more off...
Read moreIt may look like an old-school Greek family restaurant on the inside, but the food is more inventive, and the atmosphere on the sidewalk patio is fun.
Pictured is the Mediterranean avocado toast, which comes topped with guacamole, eggs and scallions (among other things). Although it's in a section of the menu that says "served with home fries", this dish is served with fruit salad. If you want hash browns instead (see additional photo) be sure to ask. You can also ask for peppers & onions.
The Greek Frappe (pictured) is great. It is "Cold Frothed Greek Coffee with Milk & Sugar". I recommend ordering it with real milk and no sugar to appreciate the subtle interplay of flavors. It's designed to be drunk from the bottom up with a straw. It's better without a top so you can stir it periodically. Towards the end you may want to add your ice water to extend it.
The main patio in front (pictured) has quite a few tables, with an awning that shades most of them well (at least on this late morning in July). Kings Highway can be a little busy, but the speeds are low and it's fun to watch people walking and browsing the shops.
I sat on the side facing the side street (Tanner), where there were several tables for 1 or 2 and a smaller awning. It can be a little busy too with cars waiting at the stoplight. But the sidewalk is fairly wide, and there was a nice breeze. Very pleasant, overall.
The service was great. You pay the cashier, and Google/Apple pay are accepted. But you'll be given a paper receipt where you must manually add the tip and compute the total.
Gentlemen will want to use the second bathroom since the seat won't stay up in the first bathroom. (Both are unisex.)
Quiz: Can you spot a spelling error on the menu? Hint: It's the name of a fruit that starts with "a" (and...
Read moreFood was fine, but what DISGUSTED me beyond belief as someone who worked in both food industry and management is how the management treated their guests during my meal. A Table was waiting for well over an hour for their meal to arrive and decided it was too long and wanted to pay for the food that had arrived and leave. My table and 2 other tables of 2 had already been seated, served, and given checks before this table of 6 received their entrées. I can understand why the family was upset and wanted to leave.
What was disgusting was management calling the police on the guests and forcing them to pay for food they never received at the time. While harassing the guests asking them extremely uncalled for questions like " what kind of job do you have ". Asking a guest what they do for a living is extremely inappropriate, unprofessional, and classist.
My table had planned on ordering more food, but after this horrid display of management and disrespect towards their customers we respectfully asked for our check and left as the police escorted the other table to the register to forcefully pay for the meal they no longer wanted.
I don't care how good the food is. In the restaurant industry there is a level of respect and courtesy that is expected on both sides of an encounter in hospitality. When one side especially house and management side disrupts this balance it can turn a "great place" to spend an evening into an "Okay" place to get takeout from.
I will leave you with this. In the hospitality industry you aren't just selling your goods and commodities, you are also selling an experience of service and comfort. If you can't hold up that end of the bargain, then please...
