I want to preface this by saying both my wife & I are Hispanic, we came with our two young kids yesterday (11/9) & had high hopes for this one based off reviews. Restaurant was empty, there was only one booth with a couple - shouldve been my first sign. I truly wish I would've taken a picture of the first two cups of water that came out. One had a black "thing" literally on the ice, no idea what it was, looked like mold to me. The second one had a dead bug on the rim of the glass (We should have gotten up & left at this point). The server was apologetic & brought us two new glasses of water - all good there. We ordered food for our kids first so they can start eating first. We order rice & beans & a burger - it was made clear this was for our little ones. It came out fast within 10 mins. Our youngest started eating the rice & beans & immediately said "pica" which means something was spicy. I went ahead & tasted them & I kids you not, the beans were over the top spicy for a 3 year old child. I mean extremely over the top spicy, almost as if they added habaneros in it or something. So that became inedible. My wife ordered an esquite which is traditionally corn kernels in a cup with cheese, mayo, etc. It came on a plate & we both tasted it & this was frozen corn reheated 100%, you could not taste an ounce of flavor on that plate except for reheated frozen corn. Moving on to entrees, my wife ordered a chimichanga that had shrimp & steak in it, she said if they can add extra shrimp & do away with the steak. It came out, she had a total of 4, yes FOUR shrimp in her chimichanga. I ordered a jumbo burrito - there was nothing "jumbo" about it. The chicken inside was bland, literally tasted like boiled chicken & that's it. One last note - the plates coming out were extremely hot, but all the food was at best warm. Leading me to believe they have chef microwave back there doing the heavy lifting. I asked for some sort of discount only for the fact that we were given disgusting cups at the beginning & that my wife didn't even enjoy the food due to the aforementioned issues & the manager was SO gracious & took off a whopping $5 from the whole bill. Stay away from this place. Quite...
Read moreI don’t ever write reviews but this experience was so bad I had to. My boyfriend and I went for a late lunch today and we ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. One of our water glasses was extremely dirty and had what looked like dried avocado on the rim. The server was apologetic and brought another one out. He checked on us 2 seconds after the food came out before we even took a bite, and we didn’t see him again until after we had already finished eating. My boyfriend and I both serve at restaurants so we try our best to be great customers and leave good tips. At the end we politely asked for boxes, and my boyfriend apologized and explained that his burrito was just too spicy and he didn’t like it/couldn’t eat it. He never asked to send it back or for it to be taken off the bill, he was just simply expressing a concern. The server then proceeds to say “well that’s just how we do it how are we supposed to know what you like that’s not our fault. that’s just how we make it here i don’t know what to tell you.” rude, but okay. so we just said okay in a polite tone and he proceeds to tell us to leave. I ask if we could still get our boxes anticipating that we just had to pay for everything including the burrito. He just says to us “no you are not going to take anything or pay for anything you are just going to go” and stormed away from the table. This all happened in like 10 seconds, he went from 0-100 in such a short amount of time and we weren’t even sure how to respond other than just leaving. I guess we won because we got a free meal, but the fact that he would’ve rather lost out on good paying customers than offer to take a burrito off the check was insane. never...
Read moreMy friend and I came to tequila modern last evening to celebrate national margarita day. We arrived shortly after 7. When we walked in there were two staff members at the front. We stood there for roughly 5 minutes and neither of them greeted of. Finally a man who looked to be the manager seated us. We placed one drink order as well as our food order. Our waiter was so inattentive, slamming our food and drink done. Did not come to check on us and when he did he did not ask us if we wanted or needed anything else. We had to constantly request refills as well as a box to go. When he arrived to our table he completely forgot the box as well as anything else we had requested at that time. I was so disgusted in the disrespectful treatment we received. The table directly across from us was seated had drinks and refills on their table and was even brought their ticket to cash out before we were and they were seated well after we had already arrived. Me and my friend have both been to tequila modern before and I assure you it only takes one horrible experience to not ever go back. Some business owners should remember we as consumers has an abundance of places especially Mexican restaurants in our area where we can take our patronage and moving forward I won’t be back to tequila modern. The customer service was horrific or lack there of. Each of your customers that walk through your door should be treated with equal amount of respect. That was not displayed at tequila modern. I wouldn’t bother recommending this place to anyone. El Paso in Elkton and El Charro in Harrisonburg are much more viable options with WAY better...
