I just wanted to relate how impressed we were with the service by Yasnaya and the whole crew. My wife and I brought our son, daughter-in-law, and our three grandchildren (all under four), to Maui for a week and on the first night we stopped at Sergio's Cantina for a much needed early dinner. The kids, as well as the adults, were tired and a bit ornery/hangry after traveling all day, so it was wonderful to have such great service. The host got us in right away, saw the size of the family and the kids and took charge as other staff we're helping to get booster seats and a highchair. Everyone got water right away as well as chips and salsa and before we knew it we were ordering. Our waitress, Yasnaya helped with meal suggestions for the kids and she caught the fact that we were ordering just before happy hour ended - so we got that discount thanks to her. The chefs got our food to us in record time, and Yasnaya even came outside to let Papa know that the food was ready (Papa had taken the baby outside so he wouldn't cry in the restaurant). The food was absolutely excellent. Big portions, great flavor, and pretty impressive as we are from Arizona and have eaten Mexican food from all over the place. This was right up there with the best. Our waitress brought the bill right on time, got us boxes before we even asked, and got us cashed out quickly. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes - and for those of you who don't have small children to deal with, that was a pretty big deal. It all made for a very easy evening and we really appreciated it.
Lahaina has been such a sad and unjust tragedy, and we wanted to come support the people of west Maui. We found that the locals are hungry for tourists to visit the aina - despite what some people are saying. Tourism is how they make their living and pay their bills and although they are still struggling, their aloha spirit is just as wonderful as ever and those Maui sunsets will never get old. So mahalo to all the crew at Sergio's Cantina! Keep your chins up! you are tough, resilient, and coming back better than ever. We will be...
Read moreWow. This place was a major find for us. We were so tired of eating the same things at every restaurant when we went out, even if they were initially enjoyable… tonight I just felt like Mexican Food!
The reviews of Sergio’s were good, but coming from CA and being an avid lover of all things Mexican Food, I was sure the only standing Mexican restaurant in Maui that I found would be subpar at best… boy was I wrong!
The salsa was unique, the corn con queso was interesting and delicious, both of our burritos were smothered in this sweet tangy sauce that even my hard to impress husband loved!
They catered to our messy kids with delicious fare and kindness, and our waitress Maya was so good with our kids and just an all around nice person.
The current spot is small but clean and modern looking, but I foresee and expansion if possible because I think this place should stay around for a long time!
It should also be said that many who work here are from Lahina and any support here would amplify the love of both this newer restaurant and those sweet people of the area who are taking care of all of us while struggling through some of the most difficult times life has to offer…. Not that this place needs my review! Check them out for yourself!
Thanks Sergio’s!...
Read moreAmazing food and some excellent salsa. We went back here a second time we loved it so much. I rarely go places twice when on vacation. The first time we hit taco Tuesday and the tacos were amazing and a very reasonable price. My wife and son shared the nachos, added steak, and still took home a whole meal. Older son was able to get a quesadilla, they easily substituted corn tortillas instead of flour for his gluten sensitivity. The second time we made it for happy hour and I got the Sergio Burrito with carnitas… absolutely fantastic and HUGE. I was more than satisfied with half and took the other half to go. Wife and son got the nachos again, but with carnitas, they both liked the carnitas even better… and the steak was really good. Older son got the quesadilla again and they made him 4 instead of the 3 he got last time… they made him a few because the corn tortillas are so much smaller than the flour would have been. Got chips and salsa both times and highly recommend. The salsa is more creamy and not super spicy, just enough to make it taste great, but also enjoyable for everyone without being painful. Different, but very very good. My younger son loved it. Great place and will definitely go back again if...
