Located in a strip mall across from Indian Mound mall. Corner building. Lots of available parking, wheelchair and handicap accessible. Establishment inside looks dated. Not the cleanest. Smells of bad oil and bad ventilation. Not Japanese, is chinese owned and ran. More of an Americanized Chinese restaurant copy catting Japanese cuisine with high pricing and poor quality food. Host, sushi chef, management, was not personable or pleasant when I approached with smiles and a nice demeanor in beginning, during and end of experience. The sushi/sashimi offered lacked, didn't carry everything what was on menu. The chinese women behind the bar and sushi counter were rude and made it obvious they didn't care to answer simple questions, like, what sashimi is in the deluxe? They acted irritated with both me and the server. My server was absolutely wonderful, pleasant and I enjoyed her personality immensely. She made my experience a good one. Food was terrible. Overcooked, overpriced and was very disappointed. The hot house sake was alright but bloated pricing. They raised pricing in their food and drink menu, they claim due to covid, however kept the poor quality. I will not go back there again. I felt dirty after I left due to settled oil from poor ventilation on the furniture, walls and carpet. Sticky, gross! I cannot recommend this establishment to others!!! There are many other Japanese places to try. Don't waste your money! I spent over $75 and ate 2 gyoza and a spring roll. Other dishes ordered were not palatable to me. The shrimp and proteins tasted like a jerky! Dry, overcooked, disappointing. Did not eat them. Management never offered to replace nor refund the cost of uneaten dishes. However, I did generously tipped my awesome server! Enjoy life, food and fun. Bon appetite and...
Read moreMy family and I have been going to Kanji Japanese Steakhouse since its opening. They have quickly carved out a space at the top of our list as the best Japanese hibachi around. Keep in mind as you read this review that I have never developed a taste for sushi, so this will focus on other menu items, and I cannot attest to their sushi. From what I understand from others that have gone with us and sampled the sushi, they make a great roll as well!
The atmosphere is comfortable and fits the dining experience well. If you elect to dine at one of the hibachis, you will be treated to a show during the meal prep. While there is nothing different from the cooking show that sets Kanji apart from other similar restaurants, they keep it fun and exciting, and it is never dull. If you prefer to just order straight from menu and have a quiet dining experience, they have an excellent bar area that better allows for conversation and peaceful dining.
Now let’s talk about why Kanji is atop of my “must go” eateries. The food selection is generous, and the hibachi offerings are numerous. You can mix and match your proteins and take advantage of vegetarian options as well. Each hibachi meal comes with a salad and clear soup. Do yourself a favor and get your salad with the ginger dressing! It is delicious and pairs great with any meal. Each main course hibachi also comes with rice, vegetables, and bean sprouts. Kanji has found a fantastic blend of seasoning for their meals which is what sets them apart from some of the other steak houses that I have...
Read moreFirst visit last week. I have been to many hibachi style resturants in several states. I had a seat and it took about 20 minutes for the chef to arrive (not bad). I ordered Filet and Chicken. Salad and soup were both good, but lettuce was watery. Rice tasted good, but was the smallest quantity I've ever received at a similar resturant. They cook it and put it in a bowl (so everyone gets the same amount). The amount didn't cover 1/2 my plate and the plate was a standard size. This has to be one of the cheapest things to serve, why give a small bowl? On to the vegetables. Some were cooked, others were 1/2 raw. Then chicken was put on the grill . You could tell right away it didn't look right. It was so chewy I had to swallow a few pieces whole. Steaks that came were ALL identical even though I ordered a filet and others just ordered the cheper "steak" option. Steak was good. I complained about chicken, the server asked the other people and they all agreed the chicken was tough . She offered to have someone else recook. I agreed, but it took 15+ minutes and the portion was TINY. Overall a low quality experience, Genji is the same price and the food and portions are 5x better. Even Genji Go has better flavor and portions at ,1/2 price. I guess this is good if you have never been anywhere else, but that would be the only reason. 2 stars only because they have "yum yum" sauce, but it's extremely thick and gritty...better...
