Welcome to the most innovatively racist Taphouse in Hillsboro. We went to Wildwood Taphouse on a Friday evening becasue Orenco Taphouse had closed, and noted that the space inside was small and already crowded.
My friend, 40 yo. non-white male, approached bartender (likely Elena Witt: wife of owner) for drink. Bartender who was chitchatting with another patron, rudely turned to friend and asked for ID!
Little surprised to be ID'd at 40, friend complied. But to our disbelief, Elena said that the photo in the DL is not of our friend and refused to serve him! This was a shock! Never happened before. Friend travels cross country for work, and uses this ID to go through airport security!
Elena asked friend for his DoB, Friend complied, but bartender pretended as if she could not hear him and asked him to repeat louder. This was getting insulting but my friend repeated his DoB louder. Out of the blue, bartender said that my friend got it wrong!
Humiliated before a bar full of spectators, my friend offered to call the cops to have his ID verified.
At this point, Elena fetched Will (the manager). That's when things started looking even more suspicious, and we realized that Will was complicit in this scheme, because Will's behavior was outright mischievous and he was loud - almost deliberately so the bar could hear the humiliation he was meting out to my friend.
With a smirk on his face, Will then asked friend for a credit card to verify the identity info: friend produced a card, Will smirked and said "its not you". Friend, was flabbergasted! and asked, what was wrong on credit card info that Will could make this conclusion?
Being told you are not you is the most bizarre form of harassment and seriously very insulting! My friend retained his calm. We knew that Will was taking out his generational hate, but walking away was almost akin to admitting that you are not yourself!
Will was loud and so loud that one of my ex-coworkers who was sitting at the back, overheard us and came over to vouch for us. Noting his sadism get exposed, Will wanted to reduce the attention and asked my Friend to fetch his employment ID, which my friend had earlier mentioned was in his car.
My friend, who was more insulted than hurt at being denied his identity, dashed out to fetch his ID.
Will met us outside the door of the Taphouse, looked at my friend's ID and mocked his name! At least now we knew what a RACIST piece of work this guy was - we did nto loose our identity but Will exposed his own.
We left for Thirsty Lion.
People like Will embody the racism and hate you see around us..by patronizing his business you encourage the Evil he hides inside. Shame on these people - hope they...
Read moreI fully understand I'm not a taphouse's primary customer as well, I don't drink. :) I was attending a meetup today at Wildwood. I love that they welcome dogs & have some outdoor seating - the outdoor seating doesn't have shade or umbrellas or tables, just chairs. I was surprised that Wildwood doesn't have food available - just pretzels, chips/salsa, and ice cream sandwiches. I asked if they had kombucha or non-alcoholic beverages available. The person working the bar said that their only non-alcoholic selection was in a back cooler. The non-alcoholic beverages were hard to spot - I think it was just one cooler on the bottom right. I saw they had Liquid Death brand canned water, Mexican Coke, and Squirt & that's it. I was surprised they didn't have like an iced tea or especially booch (since Kombucha does have low/very low alcohol content). The person working the bar was nice, and the only other thing I wish they had was at least a self-pour water for your dog and yourself. So my suggestions are to bolster your food selection or potentially have a food cart visit for busy days (ex: Orenco Taphouse has a rotating food car that parks outside), and offer some in-house non-alcoholic beverages for the designated driver, kids (as I saw some kids in there too), or weirdos like me that don't drink. ;) Perhaps my suggestions are too much catering to a minority though & fully willing to admit that. The lack of food or anything to drink for someone like me would make me leery to...
Read moreCame here to meet up with a friend to talk career paths. Sat down with the friend and between beers watched as the hallmarks of Wildwood Taphouse stood out throughout the night.
So I arrived around 7 PM, which on a Saturday night in summertime Oregon, means the sun is still blasting high because that's just the PNW for ya.
Around 8 PM the sun started coming down, and I realized that the front entrance of the taphouse with all its windows allowed much of that natural light to come in. As the night continued on, the effects of the interior lighting lit up, no pun intended and the interior felt warm to the eyes, comfortable to the touch.
I don't recall testing if there is WiFi at Wildwood Taphouse, but according to the Yelp page for this business, there is supposedly free WiFi. I guess I was too busy observing other things and taking photos (see attached) that for once I did not bother testing if there was proper WiFi at the business in question.
In any case, I give this place a 5 out of 5 stars. Kind of wish the seating outside was more plentiful but that is sort of self-limited by how much commercial space the business is able to acquire and the real estate in this little shopping center has...
