Stopped by here the other day and got a smattering of items. Shrimp dumplings, chicken dumplings & pork dumplings (all steamed), yummy chicken box (teriyaki chicken), broccoli beef box, fried tofu box, and fish tofu appetizer.
Honestly, all of it was tasty. Really impressed with the dumplings which they make in house I think, and the broccoli beef! The beef isn't chewy and full of gristle like every other place I've had it, the sauce is so delicious and not heavy, and the broccoli with the sauce they use in the dish was just really dang good and perfectly cooked (not mushy, not raw, just perfect)!
The teriyaki chicken was tasty and fairly lean. Most times I've had teriyaki chicken dishes, the chicken has too much fat. Not this one! The sauce wasn't too sweet or too salty, which again is the case with most places.
The green beans in the boxes were nicely cooked, not too salty, and didn't have strings in them! I feel like every time I get these kind of green beans, they have strings! Not these. The perfect amount of saltines! This was a relief because a while back, on our very first visit to Yummy Time we got a side of garlic salt broccoli, and it was way too salty to eat. I had the five people with us, taste it and they all agreed. I had to pour water on it to rinse off some of the saltiness. I worried the green beans would be too salty as well, but nope!
The fish tofu was actually quite good! We were told there's no fish in it, so not sure how that fish stick like flavor is achieved. Either way, my family liked it!
Overall, great food! Super...
Read moreThe restaurant owner has a crazy policy of not allowing customer to just order one specific dish (Guo Bao Rou) for takeout, unless I bundle it with ordering at least another dish, or I choose to dine in. The reasons they gave are - “this dish takes too long and it’s too complicated to make”, and “this dish tastes way better when you dine in”. Very sketchy feeling. When I questioned them on the phone then, and asked, why do you even offer this dish on your menu in the first place if you don’t want to sell it to customers, they said “not gonna sell to you” then hanged up the phone. Terrible terrible experience, and I never saw any service like this in US. Heard their food tastes good so I decided to try it with high hope and expectation, but couldn’t even order it and was being treated badly. The true reason they don’t sell one dish with to-go? Because they don’t feel they make enough money on this order. I don’t want to spend a dime on this restaurant, hope people read this message to know who they are doing...
Read moreGood portion and good prices. I ordered the veg xiao long bao, was excited as most places have pork gelatin inside, and I also asked if it has soup inside and he said yes and that added to my excitement, but there was no soup inside lol, its regular steamed dumpling with some moisture, but its okay as it was still tasty but just FYI. Dumpling was 5/5, but popcorn chicken is 3/5, unsure if its MSG but I've tried better popcorn chicken maybe other version of chicken is better but the batter was lil burnt and the flavoring just tastes like salt/msg, i think some garlic or chive or basil flavoring would make this better, it just taste like the homemade ones I make but chicken was moist so thats a good part. Overall rating this 3.5 or 4/5, good location, good price, but some things can be improved, i still enjoyed my...
