Yum Berry Cafe & Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Hollywood

Very nice casual dining spot in the oakwood plaza, I thought the variety of food was great and the creativity of their rolls were fantastic.

That being said, my only two gripes about this place is that some of their tempura rolls used perhaps a little too much batter or perhaps the tempura batter was slightly off. I ordered the tempura lovers roll and the ricky roll, and the tempura battering on the tempura lovers roll was very thick and almost too chewy, not what im used to. I have been a sushi chef in the past and have worked with many sushi restaurants for years, and there was something definitely off about this roll. However, their ricky roll was amazing, tempura was done well and was crispy and flavorful, so the tempura must have been off with the first roll.

The meat variety in their sushi was also limited as it was a kosher restaurant, however the prices of some of the items reflected those of exotic fish rolls if not higher. I understand that kosher sushi ingredients may be higher priced so this may be understandable but to the average non kosher customer, we may find the prices a bit off putting considering the ingredients used as substitutes for traditional sushi ingredeints (ie: imitation shrimp).

Lastly, the wait staff was wonderful, our waitress was polite, accommodating and pleasant, but when we asked what the imitation shrimp was in the sushi, she did not know. For an ingredient that is so prevalent in their sushi menu, the wait staff should have definitely known what it was, if for no other reason but to inform customers in case of food allergy risk.

Over all, I enjoyed my visit, my rating is probably closer to a 3.5 than 3, the service was great, food was enjoyable for the most part, and I feel like their issues are easy fixes. I will be coming back...

It's unfortunate to write a negative review on a kosher restaurant. To begin with, kosher restaurants by nature are expensive. Given the rigid parameters for strict kosher laws, preservation and preparation, this shouldn't happen. We came on Sunday to have a pizza, sushi and their signature dish Popcorn Shrimp. I requested the pizza to be crispy if possible. The pizza that was served looked like thick bread with tons of melted cheese. The dough is commercially bought, it is not house made - that is certain. Several bites into the Popcorn Shrimp, the sauce looked runny and not the usual crispness of the sauteed "shrimp". The sushi roll was lackluster and not looking fresh. The smoothie was flavorless, it was watered down. We returned the pizza, even though they remade it again, we refused it. We left, without touching anything else. Unfortunately, hours later both my husband and I experienced food poisoning from the fish dishes with the accompanying symptoms. This is my first non-positive review of a restaurant. I'd add that we've been here about 2 years ago and it was different. Whether due to changed ownership or something else, it is not worth the price you're paying. We paid the gratuity because we know the server and she did everything she could to make it better. Please, stay away...

I would like to say up front that the restaurant has always been clean and the food always great. That being said, myself and two coworkers went in for dinner. We ordered over $160 worth of food. When we got the check it was $189 + . We tiped the server $33 because the food was good and the service was equally good. However, after looking at the receipt the next day we noticed that the server added 18% ($27 +) gratuity to the check. I called and spoke to the manager and she said that the 18% was notated on the menu and we must not have seen it. She also said she would refund the tip we left as well as the 18% for the inconvenience. I got her the order # and cc# and she only refunded a portion. The point of this review is this. I looked at their menu after she said it was on there and on the very last line of the menu it says that 18% would be added to any party of 5 not 3. Just be careful they never mentioned adding 18% when we ordered and even though she did issue a refund it wasn't what she said she would do. Needless to say we will not be eating here again. I hope this helps anyone decide where they want to...
