It is very rare you come across a restaurant as rustic, charming, and good-natured as Duncan House. Looking for a satisfying and tasty meal? - Duncan House. Looking for a welcoming atmosphere with great service? - Duncan House. As I am vegan, I’ve only tried their country potatoes and sourdough toast (no butter) with jelly, but let me tell you, these are NOT your average potatoes. Legend has it that before the gold rush, people would travel all the way to Alaska just to pan for these perfectly greased, slightly salted cubes of potatoes. Many people don’t know, but there are actually 5 elements - wind, earth, fire, air, and these potatoes. Simply put, If you come here and don’t try their potatoes, you are really doing yourself a disservice. Their bread and jelly is pretty good too. In closing, be assured that if you come to Duncan House hungry, you will leave not only with a full belly, but also with a full heart. Thank you for all the great meals!

The reviews and photos of this place don’t do it justice! Husband and I came in for a late breakfast. We were greeted with a smile and given options for seating. The waiter brought menus right away and took our drink orders which were brought immediately back to us. Hot coffee with lots of cream for use and a delicious iced tea with lemon (didn’t even have to ask for the lemon!). We put in our food orders and the food was out in less than 10 minutes. We ordered the Express with a side of potatoes and the High Tide with a side pancake. Everything was so delicious and simple, it was hard to believe it came out so quickly! The breakfast sandwich was huge, the pancake was massive, the biscuit was really big for one biscuit, and the eggs were probably more like 3 eggs (even though the dish says 2 eggs). Great food, happy friendly staff, and quick service. Definitely recommend breakfast at Duncan House Diner!

Visiting Homer on our Alaskan Tour and was looking for a place for breakfast before an excursion. Decided we'd give Duncan House Diner a try. We sat at the counter and chatted with the staff that was working. A fine group of teenagers that looked like they were having fun working there. Our food came quickly and was hot with generous portions. I think we'd still give 5 stars because of the staff and how much fun they were to talk to. Really liked the décor and old food package they had on the shelves. I don't think you could go wrong eating here...A definite asset to Homer, AK.

long post of my experience, 0/10 save your money and go literally anywhere else

I would usually never write a bad review, I'd always like to give a business a chance to correct behavior before calling them out publicly. However with Luke's behavior today I feel potential customers should be warned to spend your money elsewhere. Better food and actual customer service. And an owner who tries to hear the customer out and try to find a resolution. Luke got this business from his dad who was always an absolute pleasure to interact with. The same cannot be said for Luke or how he runs his business. My partner and I have ordered food here routinely for our entire life, albeit primarily for a cheap option not a good option. Today my partner ordered online an eggs Benedict with a side of toast. You'd assume that means an eggs Benedict with a side of toast. That would be incorrect, what Luke means is SUB side of toast. Therefore there was no biscuit with his meal. My partner called to ask if something had changed and they no longer included a biscuit. The woman on the phone apologized and said no thats incorrect, we apologize and would be happy to make a new one. Great! Mistakes happen and we're happy to have a resolution. She then calls back a few minutes later to apologized again and says they worded things poorly on their online menu and it should have said sub toast on side for biscuit rather than just "toast on the side". She continued on to say they would not honor the prior offer to remake the food. My partner said okay but went over to speak in person and show what both online and his receipt said was completely different than what they apparently meant. The woman promptly says one moment and goes to get Luke. He is immediately over the top condescending and explaining that obviously a side means sub... even though those are clearly different words haha. My partner explained what is written on the menu and our receipt. Luke proceeds to escalate the situation claiming my partner is the reason he hates online ordering, and "people" like us just want free food. Absolutely inappropriate behavior in general, but absolutely insane to come from the owner. If that wasn't enough he continued to trespass my partner because "he was trying to get free food'. He also kept saying he was making a scene and "snarling"??? Because all my partner could do was laugh at the unhinged behavior from Luke the owner. Luke then followed him outside into the parking lot... absolutely insane behavior, we quite literally just didn't want to pay for a full meal and not receive a full meal. I have been happy to recommend people here for years but I'll be even more happy to recommend folks stay far away. If the sheer amount of substance abuse in the kitchen wasn't enough, the completely emotionally unregulated owner is enough to keep me and everyone I know far away. Also Luke feel free to respond if you please, I don't care to argue with someone who can't have a rational conversation. Thank you to anyone who reads this, If you still choose to go I sincerely hope you get what you ordered without being harassed by the incompetent...

I’ve been to Duncan House multiple times over the years & not because I’m thrilled with the food but because there are so few options in Homer which is honestly the only reason this place does so well.

I went with my family again today & the food was just ok as usual but what prompted this review was one of the servers poor attitude, rolling of the eyes & what she said when my mother asked for more half & half for our coffee.

First, the half & half comes in a small metal container that I would wager is about 1/4 cup & knowing the coffee there is not good, we use more half & half than usual to help mask the taste so when my mother asked politely for more creamer, the server who seated us rolled her eyes, put up her hands & said “I’m sorry but that’s the allotted amount my boss allows to be brought to each table.” as she proceeds to walk away not allowing us to respond. Assuming she was a hostess of sorts & most certainly not well suited for this line of work.

Our actual waitress comes to the table to take our order & my mother asked her politely for more creamer to which she happily provided but to our bewilderment, it was at best 1/4 full which is a sixteenth of a cup! My mother explains it’s not sufficient for a second cup of coffee so she goes back for more & comes back with 3/4 full which was fine but why not just fill it up?

As we were finishing up, the first server/hostess came to the table to ask if we enjoyed the food. We are not rude people so we said it was fine but we’re also not hard to read so you could easily tell we weren’t thrilled. Instead of investigating further or apologizing for the previous interaction, she rolled her eyes for a second time & said “Ok, have a nice day” in a tone that may as well have been a spit in the face.

For reference, we spent over $60 on sub par breakfast for 3 people, one of which was a child. I don’t think a second 1/4 cup of half & half along with good customer service is too much to ask for.

This was my last visit to...

Upfront, I did NOT eat at this place and never will. I just left due to the most rude interaction with the staff. Walked in with my sister and our children (3). There was a group of ppl in front of us that the staff was attending to... putting their names on the list. When it came to us, she promptly turns her back and makes herself busy, as did her counterpart. After about 5 minutes of standing there, them attempting to NOT make eye contact and me asking how do I get on the waiting-list, a man comes up behind me and rudely interjected that they are busy and will get me on the list when they can. During my addition 5 minute wait at that point another male staff member was less than friendly to our children who were playing in front of us. Conveniently another group walks in and we are asked if we are on the list, once she gets my name on this list, she quickly attends to the other group that came in 10 minutes after us. WOW you mean they didn’t wait to get on the waiting list?! We left, I politely ask for the owners names, Barb and Brad I believe he said. So if the owners are reading this, I don’t know if your staff isn’t kid friendly or we didn’t fit the normal mold of Homer’s usual crowd, but you should retrain your staff on common courtesies. Our money is...
