Critique of Hot Springs Restaurants Serving Breakfast

Homemade buttermilk waffles cost about 21 cents each to make, ~for a 6" Belgian waffle. A sausage patty costs about 48 cents apiece. 2 eggs @28 cents each = 56 cents. The above amounts would be substantially less if the materials used were bought in quantity as most restaurants do.

If I go into a restaurant and order this and pay $15.00 for it and leave the restaurant hungry, there is something wrong with the picture.

Ironically it did happen to me on Saturday when I decided to try out the local Mornin' Sunshine Coffee House & Catering.

The place is self-service ordering and they asked for a tip up front. Not knowing what kind of service I was going to get I added a 15% tip. I ordered a waffle which was priced at $8.00 each with a side order of 2 eggs over medium and a sausage patty.

The price for the meal came to a little over $13.00 plus taxes and the 15% tip. I left the restaurant hungry and angry because I felt as if I had been ripped-off.

The so-called Belgian "waffle" was the size of an English muffin. Not filling at all. Also, a waffle or pancake is customarily served with butter. It was absent from the entree. The eggs were half cooked with the whites still runny, even though I had ordered them over medium. The sausage patty was tasty, but was only cooked on one side. I drank water instead of coffee. I can only imagine what the bill would have been if I had ordered coffee.

I can get the same exact entree at Perkins Cake and Steak for the same amount of money and walk away full and content, so unless the local breakfast establishments can step up their game and follow suit, none of you will be getting anymore of my business.

P.S. A "tip" or "gratuity" is based on your performance. If you don't get a tip, it is because you didn't perform and you did a rotten job; so don't be asking me for a tip up front until you have proven to me that you can deliver the goods.

The ONLY restaurants in Hot Springs that give you value for your money in my opinion are Jalapenos Grill and Smokehouse Sports Bar and Grill. The rest of you need to step up your game...

8.30 am , 2 people , no corn beef hash ok we order 2 regular morning breakfast 2 regular coffees. 5 mins later no coffee , and I overhear the girls talking to " cook" why are there these plates ...sitting there we don't have orders for these ..and that those people for that order already had their food . ... 3 min of discussion time with cook and we are now just gonna throw the sourdough bread off and make white toast for this order to match our order. So now these plates been not only sitting there for a while ..getting cold .. but still NO COFFEE , the girls are now chit chatting and sitting down while I wait for my toast and coffee.

Finally after sitting again for 3 mins waiting I demand my money back. I am told she was sorry and waiting for toast , I asked about the coffee she had a blank stare. And I told her I overheard ure conversation about this food not being our food and been sitting out on ure counter here up front a while..

She had nomore to say . Food , eggs brown and crispy hardly warn, hash brown greasy and cold and no toast and no coffee.

NO...

This is a great spot to stop for coffee. I stayed in Hot Springs while visiting area parks, and I wandered in this shop looking for brewed coffee. I am so glad I did.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting with couches and small tables for groups of friends to chat. The ladies behind the counter were friendly and willing to engage in small talk about the area.

Here is the best part- the order was perfect! I ordered three drinks, which of course, I cannot carry by myself. The woman making my drinks took this into account, and she packed the drinks to go with a drink carrier and spill stoppers that actually worked. She took my specific needs into consideration and accommodated me without me ever having to say a word. What great customer service!

Now about the drinks - I ordered a specialty Chai drink, and I have to say, it was the best Chai I have ever had. No specific spice was overpowering. It all blended nicely together to make a great drink. My husband had the brewed coffee and he said it was "just right." I highly recommend stopping by...

Wanna go where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came? Mornin’ Sunshine Coffee House is your place then! (They know no strangers) We were promptly and warmly welcomed in with a smile as bright as the sun. ☀️ The food was delish! I added chicken to my veggie pesto panini and it was (chef’s kiss). The grilled chicken Caesar salad was fresh and crisp 😃 My daughter had the French toast and LOVED it! Amazingly beautiful building with gorgeous detailing on the walls and ceiling. (Was it an old malt shop many years ago?) Cute little tables and chairs encourage great conversations. Perfect place to stop in for a coffee, a bite, or just to sit for a bit. Until you’re ready to stroll down beautiful Hot Springs again, that is!

If you are looking for a coffee and a bite this is a good place to be. After the tour from Windcave NPS we stopped by here for a hot drink and a dessert. The place is nicely decorated with hand made paintings and funny quotes. We ordered a dirty chai and latte with strawberry rhubarb pie- all of which were really good, only thing was that I was expecting the drink in an actual cup not a to-go glass. Did not seem to have many vegetarian dishes on the menu though, not sure if they will be substitute some sandwiches. Taking out a star for same and the un-clean bathroom. Overall experience was good and I will recommend
