Great place for Chinese lunch rice bowls downtown. More authentic than I expected for downtown. Quality ingredients with reasonably authentic flavors. Price was in line with other options at Understory. Ordering was fast and efficient. Staff was friendly and were happy to answer questions. My favorite was the Honey Braised Pork Belly Rice Bowl. It has tender flavorful honey roasted pork belly balanced with steamed bok choy on a bed of rice. The eggplant sauce was delicious. I wouldn't mind a more bold mapo tofu flavor, but I understand that you're downtown. All of the bowls were well portioned for lunch. The prices are a little high but in line with the other places of this caliber downtown / at Understory. The limited menu allows them to focus on a handful of great dishes for efficiency. It looks like they have rotating specials / additions to the menu that give some variety. It's part of Understory so there's a large amount of central seating.

Bāshi has become my favorite place to get lunch. The food is fantastic! You can tell Milo and his staff put love, joy, and passion into every dish. I’m always impressed that Milo remembers my name. He really takes the time to know his customers and you can tell he is grateful for each one of them. Bāshi just celebrated one year at Understory and I wish them all many years to come. BUY HIS CHILI OIL! It’s the best! It’s their “everything sauce” and it does go with everything.

The Understory food court in the Bank of America Tower in Houston houses some of the most incredible restaurants and one of them is Bashi. This resto hits the bullseye for core-satisfying comfort food in dishes such as braised pork belly over white rice with boiled baby bok choi, spicy beef noodle soup, steamed meat dumplings in chili-garlic sauce and scallions and mapo tofu. Iconic Chinese dishes all done superbly.

If you're looking for an authentic Chinese dining experience, this family-owned gem is a must-try. The flavors are exceptional, bringing the true essence of Chinese cuisine right to your table.

One of my standout favorites has to be the vegan chili wontons—perfectly spiced with just the right amount of heat, they’re an absolute treat. The eggplant and rice dish is another highlight, with the eggplant cooked to perfection and bursting with lots of flavor, the rice adds the perfect balance to the dish. And if you’re a noodle lover, the vegan noodles won’t disappoint—packed with delicious savory goodness in every bite.

From the weekly menu, I absolutely love the beef stew, tender and rich in flavor, offering that comforting home-cooked taste (this might be my favorite dish from Bashi) The fish with orange rice and broccoli is another top pick, with the lemongrass butter giving it a nice kick and a subtle hint of spice that really elevates the dish.

The service is warm and welcoming, reflecting the family atmosphere. Whether you're a long-time lover of Chinese food or just looking to explore some new flavors, this place definitely hits the mark. Highly recommend it to anyone craving a satisfying,...

(UPDATE) My initial review: If someone asks twice if the noodles are rice noodles because they can't have gluten and the answer, both times, is yes .. and then the food arrives and after a few minutes you notice it is definitely not rice noodles and now you are physically in pain... That's unacceptable. Needless to say... Definitely not coming back. Update: I updated from 1 to 4 stars because the owner reached out and showed he cares. Thanks Milo for reaching out right away and showing genuine interest in taking preventive and corrective measures. I truly appreciated such a personal contact. Thanks for the refund and for educating your team on food allergies. I may come...
