I discovered Christy's donuts 9 years ago when I started working in midtown off of Montrose. It's a great old school, no nonsense donut shop. They sell a really great product. Mostly fried yeast donuts and a few cake style donut offerings as well. They have extraordinary kolaches! They bread is soft and slightly sweet, with flavorful cheese and high quality smoked sausage inside. Not the tiny little pinky finger sized sausages, either, like the ones at other franchise spots, but The big fat ones that make the kolache more of a meal type affair, than a let down, like you would get elsewhere. They offer small and large kolaches, with or without jalepeno or cheese. Even boudin kolaches. The coffee is always fresh. There is a line sometimes, only because it's so good. And ppl know it. But the line moves very fast because their friendly and professional servers do a wonderful job of expediting your order. It's a family run business. And most days the father/owner is in the back working hard to bring you a fresh, quality product. You can taste the pride, and know right away that they are putting their name in everything they sell. Do yourself a favor, and skip the franchises next time and buy local, at christys, while also supporting the hardworking houstonians that make this...
Read moreWent in with a friend to get some Donuts, etc. He was still coming in the door and behind the counter stood three people. One right away asked to help. We hadn't even got to look to see what they had and we wanted. I said please, he didn't know. Then another asked abruptly for our order. I looked at them, said please to give us a second as I was trying to ask him. A third person asked. Mind you, NO ONE IS IN LINE WAITING, just us. Then we start getting attitude from one. Should they not also ask if you want your food warmed, which we did not. I'm trying to tell them it is to go, not to warm the food. The one girl yells back, You should have told us. Just crazy. Then no receipt and they didn't give us all our food, we found out once in the car. We were actually being yelled at and laughed at. I walked out, while the friend said she was still bad mouthing us after he got the bags. I just don't get it. Let the customer look briefly, order from one person, not three talking to you. Then they took it personally when I said we were together and one person is all we needed to deal with. They were wrong, they did not give us all our food. It was not a good experience, and not one you'd expect when just going into a store for some...
Read moreI was blatantly ignored as I was coming to pick up an order, they literally took two people that came in after me. When I asked the woman that ignored me for the first customer after me, she actually said I don’t know out loud! Then the second cashier went and asked the next guy after me what he wanted, I visibly showed shock and asked again… why aren’t you getting my order. They waited til both were waited on and rudely asked what was the name under, I asked again why didn’t you take my order before the people that came in after me… she looked annoyed and when I turned to leave the other girl smirked and laughed. I’m not one to point to discrimination immediately as I’m a chef in the restaurant industry, and I understand all sorts of instances can lead to miscommunication. This wasn’t that at all, I turned away and went back to my car! I don’t understand how that’s even done so blatantly, and in a community with so much diversity surrounding it. They will never see my face again, this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a business. Can’t believe it was at the hands of a fellow minority or perhaps they don’t consider themselves...
