Today, I had an incredibly distressing experience at Day 6 when I decided to purchase a cup of coffee for a homeless individual. The assistant manager's appalling behavior not only showcased a complete lack of empathy but also revealed discriminatory policies within the establishment. This incident left a bitter taste in my mouth and has tarnished my view of the coffee shop. Upon entering the coffee shop, I was hopeful that my small act of kindness would bring a moment of comfort to the homeless individual. However, instead of being met with compassion and understanding, we were greeted by an assistant manager who lacked basic human decency. To my shock and dismay, he referred to the homeless person as "those people," displaying a disturbing dehumanization that was both disrespectful and offensive. The mistreatment did not stop there. Despite the fact that the homeless individual had done nothing wrong and posed no disturbance, the assistant manager directed them to leave the premises. This action was unjustifiable and demonstrated a complete disregard for the dignity and rights of those who are less fortunate. To make matters worse, the assistant manager then approached my friend, a veteran, and me to inform us that "those people" were not allowed in the coffee shop as it was supposedly a company policy. When I sought clarification on what "people" he was referring to, he doubled down on his discriminatory stance. Determined to address the issue, I requested to speak with the owners and requested to see the alleged policy. As we patiently waited for our coffee, the assistant manager made several phone calls and began erratically pacing the store, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. His behavior was unprofessional and only heightened the tension in the shop. When he finally brought our drinks over in a condescending manner, I expressed my concern about his unprofessional demeanor and informed him that I did not want him to handle our drinks. In response, he arrogantly declared that "WE" do not want to serve you and asked us to leave, promptly refunding our money. The entire incident was an utter disgrace. The assistant manager's rude behavior, discriminatory actions, and unprofessionalism were shocking and unacceptable. No customer should have to endure such treatment, especially when trying to carry out a simple act of kindness toward someone in need.
Before purchasing the coffee, we witnessed another homeless person walk out with a beverage from the coffee shop. The homeless individual we bought the coffee for was also allowed to place the order, and you accepted the payment. It is hard to believe that a policy as ludicrous as this even exists. The assistant manager missed an opportunity to resolve this matter more humanely. Indeed he could have poured the drink so that if indeed the policy does exist, a scene could have been avoided, which in that case, the homeless individual would have at least their dignity still intact because they are still human.
It is disheartening to witness such blatant disregard for human dignity and the rights of individuals who are already marginalized. The coffee shop's management should be ashamed of allowing such behavior and discriminatory policies to persist within their establishment. In conclusion, my experience at this coffee shop today was deeply disheartening and disturbing. The assistant manager's lack of empathy, discriminatory actions, and unprofessional demeanor was disgraceful. I urge the coffee shop's owners to take immediate action to rectify this situation, reevaluate their policies, and ensure that their staff members are trained to treat all customers with dignity...
Read moreLoretta is the hidden gem that makes this place worth coming to. When Loretta makes our drinks, they’re perfect.
When mostly anyone else makes them, the drinks are mid and sometimes just bad- they’ve tasted metallic before, other times just taste like milk and no coffee.
9 times out of 10 when we ask for a hot drink in a mug, they give it to us in a plastic cup. Mugs change the whole experience and following simple order requests like this would make this cafe much better.
-Cappuccino: good, I enjoy it with cinnamon. Again, we usually want to drink it in a mug, and majority of the time they still give it to us in a cup. Communication between baristas could be improved.
-Shaken Espresso: comes with caramel, vanilla, and brown sugar. Way way too sweet for me as I’m not into overwhelmingly sweet coffee drinks. So instead, I order it without any of the syrups, with honey instead of sugar and with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Delicious and well balanced—again, only when Loretta makes it. When anyone else makes it, it just tastes like milk.
-Matcha latte: I’ve gotten this once, with honey and cinnamon. Just tasted like milk- had to ask for an extra scoop of matcha- then it actually tasted good. And my friend who enjoys sweet coffee drinks enjoyed the matcha with rose syrup and cold foam.
-Friend enjoyed their hot macchiato (not SB version)
-Brisket kolache is good. I think it could be better if it was cheesier
-Brisket tacos are good
-Bean + potato + cheese tacos are good
The vibe is nice and the employees are kind. A lot of natural light in the main room. The back room on the way to the bathrooms has a really nice, and also really cozy vibe. There’s books everywhere you can read while you’re there and board games too.
*Sometimes with parking I get lucky parking right in front, but usually I street park a couple blocks away. Sometimes the parking meter in front of the cafe doesn’t work so I use the...
Read moreI am so sad I did not take pictures of the inside, coffee, or food :/ The vibes were immaculate though and took all my attention (: I was in town visiting and this was such a good find to stumble upon! It’s in an adorable kind of hidden little area that gives old world all brick vibes. When you walk in it is so ambient and peaceful. You are greeted with local gifts and handmade items to shop, their plant collection, and beautiful book collection. The all original artwork on the wall is beautiful and powerful, you have to check it out! The staff was so kind, and truly set us off to a great morning. They were helpful, happy, and just great energy, they were happy to be there and it showed (: I got the lavender iced coffee, which I get everywhere I can. It did not disappoint! Sometimes lavender can be really strong and places put a lot in it, and I feel like I am drinking an incense. This was perfect, earthy enough and not overwhelming. We were really distracted by all the cool things, and I highly appreciated that for both my orders they asked me what kind of milk I wanted. I would of forgotten to ask, and been disappointed at myself for getting the wrong thing. The food was also delicious! They have a breakfast sandwich on a croissant that looked mouth watering, but we got tacos. The breakfast taco, and the chicken bacon ranch tacos were incredible and the green sauce was awesome! I cannot recommend this place enough. I am from Austin, and it gave the perfect...
