I've heard many good things about this place and had always seen it passing by. It looks fantastic and there are many positive reviews about the place. However, when I went with my group of friends, it was probably some of the lowest quality food we've ever had in our time spent visiting various restaurants in Houston. We are all native Houstonians and have had plenty of traditional Mexican and Texas-Mexican food in our time living here.
Underseasoned, bland, and overpriced food with honestly dangerous ceviche from the raw shrimp that was not cured/"cooked" properly. It was an honest shame, because we expected really good quality food from the place based on its location. However, it just felt really disappointing to say that it was poor in quality. For portion sizes, I ordered an "Ocho" from the lunch menu: Beef Quesadilla with Corn Bisque. My friends had heaping plates mostly filled with rice and refried beans with a relatively good size enchilada. Now, I would not complain about that, since I am not a fan of either sides. However, being served three very tiny quesadilla triangles that didn't taste of much didn't feel like it was worth the price. There was also sour cream on the side, but tasted downright rancid to that I almost threw up at the table. For the refried beans and rice, my friends couldn't even stomach any large amounts of it because of the strange taste and texture. I even tried a small fork full of both to see if they were lying and... they really weren't.
As for the service, we struggled to say what was positive. I'm not really sure if it's normal here, but the ice was just uncomfortably tepid. Even on a cold day, I'd like my water iced and not taste like the room's air. Our waiter also acted as though he did not want to be there at all, and had rarely came over to check on our table. Instead, he spent most of his time standing by co-workers and, although I did not catch this my friend did, he was trying to have others try and come to our table. One even did for when we needed a refill on our drinks. I didn't think twice about the service while sitting there, but when we entered the car, it really did hit me on what was wrong.
All in all, I was personally extremely disappointed like both of my friends were. We honestly hoped for the best on a cold, windy day, and were all very sad about it. On our personal ratings, both of mine rated the place a 3/10 each. I gave the place a 4/10. However, upon remembering everything and venting my frustration, I'd honestly give the place a 3/10 as well. Maybe we came in on a bad day, or perhaps it's the regular quality. Either way, we don't think we'll ever come back to the place again. Sorry to...
Read moreAverage to sub-par suburnam type American "Tex-Mex." Suprisingly not exciting or above the par, being in one of the more expensive areas of the largest city in Texas. I can honestly say I've have better Tex-Mex in suburban Virginia of all places.
Food wasn't bad by any means. It just wasn't anything special, or something an average high-schooler could whip together. This wouldn't be terrible as it's Tex-Mex, but the higher than normal pricing would lead one to believe the food would at least he somewhat noteworthy or something to remember. This loses them a star.
The second lost star is the quality and consistency of the margaritas. The one saving grace of any lackluster Tex Mex restaurant is the margaritas offerings. I can even honestly rate these, as my table ordered 6 of the same margaritas, each one tasting completely different and some even being different colors than the others.
We had also ordered a few different varieties, and the best drink received was actually the worst one made. One margarita came out tasting of pure tequila. This was the best drink delivered to us, as it helped us forget and tolerate the rest of the experience.
Being in city center, part of me feels that I shouldn't be mad. This is perfect for their clientele, who can and will happily spend good money on frivolous things. The smarter remaining parts of me knows that this visit was a couple hundred dollars I could have saved by going to literally any other taco serving restaurant - even if I were to follow that up with getting proper margaritas elsewhere.
Don't go here unless you're just looking for a large restaurant to take your wealthy and non foodie...
Read moreWe went on Sunday evening around 7pm and were seated in a dark corner. When our Server Camilo V came over and asked what we wanted , We replied "2 Dos Equis and an iced tea". When the drink order came over it was wrong (1 Corona, 1 Dos Equis and an iced tea). He then asked if we wanted chips and salsa and we said yes please. The chips that were brought out were stale. He next brought out Queso which we told him we did not order. We were about to order the fajitas, however the servers reaction (to his own mistake) made us feel unwelcomed to the point that my brother in law did not want to order food ( for fear of retaliation to the product by an upset server). When the manager came to talk to us, the server stood right over her staring at my brother in law and sister to the point of intimidation. I did everything I could to hold back and not start a scene. We just wanted to get out of that setting as soon as possible. When we got our check, the queso order was still on it so the manager took it off. We paid $13.54 for our 2 unfinished beers and left only to be glared at by the server on our way out the door. • There are other Mexican restaurants within 2 miles of that one that will treat...
