Jersey Mike's Subs — Restaurant in Houston

Came in to buy 3 giant #13 Italians on wheat. They had wheat bread, but they were left over from the evening before. They could have sold them to me, but said they'd rather bake fresh ones. I didn't have the time to wait, but I really appreciated their honesty about the stale rolls.

I was born in south Jersey and have relatives there and in eastern Pennsylvania. As a kid, the best food on earth was an Italian submarine. In Houston, the best way to experience that manna from heaven is a #13 from Jersey Mike's.

The key is they slice the meat and cheese right there in front of you, just as they did in Jersey and PA. Exposure to air (oxygen) is what makes the meat and cheese go stale. So by slicing it a fraction of a second before putting it on the bread, you get ingredients that are as fresh as is humanly possible.

Here's a tip: Order your #13 "Mike's way", but ask them to put the oil and vinegar on the bread (top and bottom) BEFORE adding anything else. That way, the oil and vinegar soak into the bread instead of running off onto the paper. I like it with peppers (all three types), but that's just me.

So, it was a Wednesday and I thought to myself, let me go have a really good sandwich. I arrived at Jersey Mike's and was greeted by friendly staff ready to take my order. I got the medium Italian done up "Mike's Way". I like it Mike's way then add pickles and mayo. I am going to call this "Bob's Way". ; ) The sandwich is off the chart for taste and freshness. They use Boars head meats and fresh toppings. Never brown lettuce here! The bread is outstanding and the amount of meat they put on here is incredible. This is not a $20 sandwich like some "Deli's" on post oak....hehe This is affordable at $8 and some change. If you want quality meat, outstanding bread and the freshest of toppings then give this place a try! Tell the manager Brenden, that Big Bob sent ya!

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received at this location tonight. Tried to place an order online at 8:20pm and was unable to. Called the location at 8:30pm to place an order for pickup and was informed that they are not able to take orders over the phone after 8:30. Im headed there anyway so i arrive at 8:40pm only to find that the whole sandwich station has been shut down for the evening although there is a worker behind the counter still cooking her own philly steak sandwich on the grill. I ask for my sandwich to be made anyway and am informed that the cash register has already been shut down, at 8:30pm, even tho the location closes at 9pm. I am livid at this point because there are already only two locations within a 10 mile radius and i had driven all the way across town to get to this one. If you dont want to serve your customers after 8:30pm i suggest moving your closing time up to 8pm. Completely...
