Extremely overpriced for the sub par quality of food, poor service and overall disappointing restaurant experience. We went for Houston Restaurant Weeks. It took time for the server to greet us and when asked for simple things like utensils, we had to ask again because they forgot. Food came out very slowly, timing was not well paced and thatâs not on the server but more so the kitchen.
The food was really underwhelming for what we paid for. Typically Iâve had good experiences with HRW but we did their HRW menu with cocktail pairing and it was NOT worth it. First I had a crudo that I understand is a simple fresh raw course but this was so tiny! Then I had the steak which was cooked well but it came with overly salty yuca fries and this cucumber and tomato salad with tajin that felt like I could make it at home. My friend had the ribs that should have come with house-made corn tortillas but she just received replacement flour tortillas. Iâm not sure how you can run out of elements for your dish by 8pm on a Friday night. For dessert I had the rice pudding brĂ»lĂ©e which was pretty good. My friend had the doughnuts which looked dense and unappealing like sad sugared fried bread. First cocktail pairing was lychee martini which was overly sweet but to each his own. Second was a mezcal drink that was ok, would have been nice if our server discussed/explained our food and drink more. And for the last cocktail we actually didnât get a cocktail because the server said the bar was done making drinks (although we could clearly still see the bar open with a bartender making drinks). So we were given sparkling wine instead. Drink pairings cost more depending on if itâs mocktails, wine, or cocktail pairing - each being more expensive. So to receive a sparkling wine instead of a cocktail because the bar didnât want to make another drink feels like we got bamboozled. Overall I would not recommend this place and would not come back unless they absolutely revamped everything - service,...
Read moreI was just in Houston for a few days and thought Iâd check out this new spot. Immediately greeted by an enthusiastic team on entry, I was noticed how busy the restaurant was with a trendy and eclectic vibe. I didnât have a reservation, but I was immediately offered a spot at the bar. As I was by myself this was the perfect spot to feel the groove of the bar and the restaurant. Tariq was my bartender who immediately put together an incredible Paloma! After that Paloma I was offered an off the menu cocktail that I still havenât stopped thinking about! For food I ordered the field pea hummus, the mole chicken drumettes, and the red rice and beans. F-in incredible (can I say that here). It was different, unique and tasted incredible. The portions were great (I ended taking a to go box for all three dishes) and felt I got what I came in for. The best part is the evening was the manager giving me a tour of the space during a lull in service where I got to meet the chef and some more of the team members. Back to the food though. If you like unique, but 5 star twists on known dishes this is the spot. I canât say that Iâve had a hummus made with field peas and topped with chorizo! Trust me on this one. Anyway, the food was great, the drinks were in point, and the vibe was right. Iâve told about 8 people to go...
Read moreI had a great experience here. The food and ambiance are amazing. The restaurant is in the Ion center, and provides a safe, indoors area for walking after dinner or waiting for your table. I really appreciate that set up. There is street parking available. There is also valet parking here as well; adds to the convenience. Tonight, I had an order from the Houston restaurant weeks menu. My friend had the plate of 1/2 a fried chicken (not HRW). I don't think I've ever had chicken fried so perfectly! The batter was an adventure for my tongue! I can only hope to be able to recreate that beautiful experience one day at home. I had the pork confit; half rack of ribs; and the Mexican chocolate mousse that are available on the HRW menu. I also had a mocktail flight, it was extra, but the bartender created a specialty drink for each course. The drinks were unique and fun. All the staff, starting with the manager (Danny) and on to the our staff (Byron, Javi), including the bartender (Tyriq ,sp?) were all great conversationalists and engaging. It made the experience all the more pleasant. I highly recommend Late August to anyone who wants to enjoy their food, and get five Star treatment and cuisine without needing to travel out of the way or into high...
