IMPORTANT NOTE: This location is nestled in the downtown Houston tunnel across from the Starbucks and Murphy's Deli, below the Texas Commerce Building.

My husband and I both had the grilled vegetable salad with grilled fajita chicken added. The salad consists of grilled veggies (onions, zucchini, squash, mushrooms, and carrots) served on a bed of chopped iceburg lettuce, all piled inside of a big fried tortilla "bowl" (which was a little on the greasy side, for my liking). The salad also had diced tomatoes tossed in...not sure if those were grilled though...didn't appear to be. The salad comes with either a honey lime balsamic dressing or a jalapeno ranch dressing. Any of the taco meat selections can be added for an additional $2.25. Not bad, considering the veggie salad without any additions is only $5.99. It's a rather large portion too. I had the balsamic dressing, which was good. My husband had the ranch dressing, which he said was delicious. SALAD RATING: 8/10 (I would've rated higher if the grilled fajita chicken (additional charge) would've been more flavorful and seasoned better. It was rather bland. It wasn't dry, which is a plus! The "bowl" was a little too greasy too. I would've liked for the salad to have included some other lettuce greens in addition to the iceburg. That change alone would make a better tasting, better looking, and better quality salad.)

We also ordered some homemade chips and guacamole. Both were delicious, perfectly seasoned and ample portion! However...it's a bit overpriced. The chips & guacamole with tax was close to $5. To me, that's at least $1 over what it should be. CHIPS RATING: 10/10 (taste and portion) GUACAMOLE RATING: 10/10 (taste and portion)

The soda fountain has only two "common" soft drinks (Coke and Diet Coke). The other drink selections are some of those real cane sugar trendy sodas...very tasty! Those offered include a mango soda, cherry soda, root beer, and a lemonade. I tried the root beer, which was great. My husband tasted the mango soda and the lemonade...both were delicious. SOFT DRINK RATING: 10/10 for being unique with soft drinks that actually taste good! :)

SERVICE: 7/10 The ordering took longer than it should because the person working the register seems to be untrained or poorly trained. VERY SLOW. The person seemed unfamiliar with that position...perhaps she's new? My husband and I visited when it was not busy. I couldn't imagine this person working the register and placing the orders when it's a lunch rush.

It also took a bit longer than expected to get our food considering the fact that we were 2 of maybe 8 people waiting on food. The delay wasn't extreme, but something to make note of, in case you're in a rush. From my own experience, between the time it took to place our order, combined with waiting on our food, it took 30 minutes. On the upside, they offer To-Go call ahead ordering and online...

When I first started eating here I was coming 4 to 5 times a week and always got the breakfast tacos. Every time I swiped my card it was 20+ dollars for myself and my fiancé (I eat a lot) that was actually very cheap. I then had a bad experience that made me not want to eat there anymore due to sanitation which this post is not about. After that issue it took some time for me to go back and I found the food quality to have gone back up. So, I frequented the heights location once again. I then noticed the significant variation in size of the tacos and lack of consistency with ingredients from ordering to go vs ordering in. That upset me a bit but an employee that was always there made sure to take care of me and correct the issues where he could (Alan is his name). Alan is the sole reason I never wrote this review that has been waiting to be written. He now is almost never there and the consistency is getting worse than it's ever been. Tonight I lost it and want to convey my upmost disappointment that the tacos I received for my to go order were not only small, they were half the size as the normally are! Mind you, half the size, and the prices since I started eating there have gone up by close to a dollar per taco. I understand that sometimes food costs go up and in the event that happens the price should raise, that is fine. However when your fiancé orders a breakfast taco with two ingredients (black bean and egg) and I order a taco with 4 ingredients (double the ingredients which I pay MORE for) and I get tacos that are half the size as hers, I have to say something and I have to let it be known that I demand a response from the owner. I have spent countless dollars and this has happened countless times. I want to know what she is going to do to keep me as a customer...

On a final note, the "quality of food" is the only thing I would ever go back for. That's why...

Overall Food is subpar. Would only order here because it was in walking distance. But one thing that I did like was their queso. Anytime I come here I get the queso blanco with the the chorizo as it’s pretty good. In saying that I’ve become accustomed to the amount of chorizo meat they NORMALLY put in their queso. This last time I ordered the same thing and I immediately noticed I barely had any ACTUAL CHORIZO MEAT in my queso however I did have a lot of SAUCE that comes from the chorizo. When I 1st called the First Lady I spoke to was very nice and told me she apologized and if I come back she’ll just give me a small side of chorizo to put in my queso. However when I walked over I was greeted by a separate lady who was very rude and insisted that I go back home and bring the queso back so she can show me there was chorizo. I did. She pointed and said you see how the cheese is dyed that’s how I know theirs chorizo. I again informed her that no it looks like that cause of the SAUCE from the chorizo but there’s NO WHERE NEAR THE AMOUNT OF CHORIZO MEAT that they normally put. We went back and forth just for her to give me a small scoop of chorizo after she messed up and said there was only “a little chorizo meat” which I replied “that was the problem from the start you didn’t put the normal amount”. I hate experiences like this cause 1. She made it seem like I was lying to get something extra 2. She messed up and admitted their was only a little and when I pointed that out then she agreed to add more and 3. You don’t argue with a loyal customer that has dined with you multiple times because y’all felt like I wouldn’t notice the amount of chorizo they put in the queso. I pay attention so much I notice they switched the containers they normally use to serve their queso. This was a horrible customer service experience and I will never...

Update: the manager of the restaurant reached out to me to apologize, explained they were busier than usual and dealing with new staff, and ask if I would be willing to give them another chance. I certainly would have gone back but I'm not longer in the area. I appreciate the manager racing out as it shows they actually care and are trying to be better. Next time in in the area I'll try to go back and give them another try! The food was decent. The order was close but completely wrong. It's not that they gave me the wrong order, it's just not had ordered. For example, I ordered a burrito with carne guisada but instead I got a burrito with half beef and half chicken. Then some of the tacos said one thing on the outside wrapper but had something completely different inside. We ordered quite a few things and maybe half of it was right. Another issue I have is the way they made me sign the receipt. My wife ordered online and included a tip in the order. When I got there they asked me to sign the receipt. Not realizing my wife had already included a tip, I added a second tip. My bad for not looking carefully. But why ask me to sign if I had already paid online - nobody else does this. As I was leaving I noticed the cashier looking closely at the receipt and I thought that was unusual. But now I realize why - the double tipping is what she was most likely hoping for. Pay attention! I'm giving 2 stars because the food was good, but for the restaurant services there's a lot of room for improvement!
