Houston overflows with restaurant options and more are opening every day as the city continues to grow. Just about every type of food is represented somewhere in the area, but one option that is less readily available is organic food. Some restaurants may have an organic certified option or two, but few restaurants go all- out with the organic offerings. On the Kirb is one such restaurant.
On the Kirb classifies itself as a sports bar, but it doesn’t look like the typical sports establishment. The lighting is soft and there are no sports- related items tacked on the walls. The only way you would know this is a sports bar is because of the many televisions. Otherwise, it seems more like an upscale bar and restaurant that happens to show sports. The inside is rather loud, too, so it may not be a good choice if you’re looking for a place with quiet dining.
With the food, On the Kirb specializes in fresh, organic options. They also have several vegetarian and vegan options on the menu and I like that they label them, for quick reference. With other restaurants, you often have to ask the wait staff to know what exactly is vegan, but there is no such problem here because it’s right on the menu. And the food they serve here is most excellent, as I learned on my recent visit. I had a sampling of several items: tacos, pizza, wrap, and a burger. Everything tasted fantastic, very fresh and well prepared. The drinks are excellent, too, even if a little pricey. I very much appreciated the large selection of beer and I tried several cocktails and loved them all.
Parking can be a challenge at On the Kirb because the parking lot in front isn’t that large. Depending on the time of day, they do offer valet service to help guests and it’s a tip- only service, so certainly worth your while to use. There is a small outdoor dining section also, so you can enjoy the fresh air while you eat.
Fresh, organic food can take time to find in restaurants, but On the Kirb is one place where you can dine and feel good about what you’re eating since organic is the norm. Whether you’re a carnivore, vegetarian, or vegan, there is much to love about On the Kirb and it belongs on every Houston...
Read moreAs a regular at On The Kirb, I've always been impressed by their commitment to using quality ingredients that align with a variety of dietary preferences. Imagine my delight when they introduced the option to have foods fried in beef tallow! This new choice is not a switch but a thoughtful addition, catering to those of us who crave a richer, more nostalgic flavor in our fried foods.
During my recent visit, I opted for the french fries fried in beef tallow and was instantly transported back to the flavors of my childhood. This option added an incredible depth to the taste that you just can't achieve with other oils. Read moreSo this is the second bad experience. Today I placed an order I arrived 5 mins earlier than what was given to me so my food would not be sitting there. I wanted my food somewhat hot to warm. As I was driving off I was tempted to grab a slice of pizza. I reached into the box and the pizza was cold. I checked the wings and also cold. Their estimated times for pick up are definitely off. Also when I walked inside I asked the female behind the bar where to pick up my order only to be told someone would help me shortly. A waitress came up and asked how she could help me. I notified her that I had placed an order to go and that it should be ready. She said she would check on it. This gentleman asked if he could help I told him that a waitress was looking into my order. I kept waiting he finally came back and asked for my name and went to check on my order. I got my order finally. Also when I placed my order on the app I was forced to leave a tip. I did not find away around not leaving a tip for a to go order.
A couple of weeks ago when we were there the waitress gave us the total. We thought the total was off . We asked for an itemized receipt. We noticed she was adding her tip with the grand total. It was a price difference of $30. It's not like we weren't going to tip.
I'm not sure I'll return despite the food being great! Always ask for an itemized receipt don't let them give you a...
